  • superbo...

  • meravigliosa canzone, grandissimo Mario Del Monaco.

  • stupendo. Grande mario del monaco!!!

  • Pretty far from Othello, but what a delivery he gives, so passionate and with his usual power and volume, excess within control. Del Monaco is sadly overlooked, but he surely ranked among the greatest

  • @giunta64

Prova a sentire Musica proibita cantata da Mario del Monaco...l'acuto finale soprattutto...

  • Fantastic!

  • The current crop of tenors should take a while to listen to Del Monaco, Lanza, Corelli, Di Stefano etc

  • UNA VOCE INIMITABILE!!!

ANCORA NON SI SENTE UNA VOCE CHE LA POSSA EGUAGLIARE.

  • Extraordinary voice that will always iluminate our souls!!!!

  • la piu bella voce secondo me del 900

  • Today's tenors should kneel before the grave of Del Monaco and the great singers of the past.

  • Come Lui, più nessuno!

  • un grande artista !!!!!!!!!

  • To tomzoricic: your impolite comments are noted. I happen to admire the best of Mario del Monaco's recordings very much; but his singing was decidedly variable - especially from the late 1950s on, when his voice became increasingly dry. As for the performance of Tu ca nun chiagne posted here - I stand by my earlier observations.

  • MDM is certainly charismatic here, but his voice sounds rather dry. Unfortunately he pushed his way through this song with an unremitting forte and didn't have the energy for a decent squillo (ring) on the high note at the end. Martinelli thought Caruso's version of this song the best, and chose it as one of his "desert island discs".

  • @giordani19 wash your ears! You don't know what you are saying

  • Ineguagliabile.

  • But superable, though. :-)

    Try Caruso's.

    Happy new year!

  • Yes, Caruso is still the best in this song.

  • Saw you pic. Puccini rules. :-)

  • Thanks. he is my favorite composer. especially for his Tosca.

  • Of course it is. You still had doubts about that? I'm now beggining to understand Butterfly and why the critics use to say it's His best opera. It is genial -- very rich score, full of "sheet music metaphores". But Tosca is still the best. I love all of his operas anyway, except Edgar, which I still don't know. It is very actual music. Verdi is too much thought to the theater (grand opéra) and sooo repetitive. Sometimes, it is even boring. Puccini is perfect.

  • @LordMgls I see your opinion about that is exactly the same as mine. Thanks

  • @giunta64

  • INCREDIBILE! Like him no man ever sung..Grazie Mario..You're ETERNAL, Mario !!

  • bravo it is the best song for it and Un amore cozi grande -super

  • IL TENORE ASSOLUTO!!!!!

    voce incredibilmente perfetta

  • Doooku Are you for real or you write comment just becouse you have nothing to do??????????? Mario Del monaco voice, was simply amazing , one of the best TENOR that mother nature gave us.

  • better voice of the century... and so handsome...

  • INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL !..:-)

..have been ALWAYS MAGNETIZED by the POWER,and the OVERWHELMING BEAUTY of his voice..AND HIMSELF..:-)

    GRAZIE,MARIO !!!

  • One of his students sings like him and is one of the better teachers now,American tenor:' James McCray'

  • Il re de i tenori.

    non c'e altro come lui.

come ha deto djordjnot Grazie a Dio !

  • Un artista así nace.

  • this is the king of the "Tu ca nun chiagne"

  • but not alone, corelli is still the king too of this song.

  • Amen e basta!!!

  • Grazie Mario! Grazie a Dio!

Grazie

  • Oh, and "OH MY GOD" pretty much sums it up!

  • Looks like a person that truly is enjoying, and aware of, his place.

  • Oh my God!!! What a voice. I've been a fan for long years, but he sounds so incredible here. I also just discovered Corelli's version here on Youtube and that too is simply amazing! What the opera world would not give to have either one of those voices now and it's incredible to think they were contemporaries!

Grazie Mario

  • unico, irrangiungibile, divino! Grazie Mario

  • Really that I got annoyed! I'm bass and I only can to compare this great version of De Curtis's song with the Cesare Siepi's one.

  • ...and today we need to hear all these tenors without passion, voice, and they are boring. Mario Del Monaco was an incredible voice, an outstanding artist. The opera now is just a show, similar to holiday on ice.

  • Yes my friend in your american understanding as burger at Mc Donald, but in our Europian culture opera is a synonym for much more, this a cultural event.

  • ???

  • Fabris77 ... I've tried several times to post an answer, but it doesn't seem to take. I'll try again. They were two separate Sullivan shows. I was just amused that it seemed he only had one suit. I also heard him on Sullivan sing the Butterfly duet with Kirsten, a Vesti la Giubba (in a tux and somewhere on YouTube and a Celeste Aida.

  • I allways cry when I listen to this song...

  • Fabris .. He sang this and the "Musica Prohibita" that's also up here, with him in the same suit, BTW., on the old Ed Sullivan show. As a ancient DelMonaco fan from age 14 (I'm now 70) I was lucky enough to have seen these performances live from my living room in South Philly. I waited all week to hear him on the show. This would have been back in the mid to late '50's. The sound doesn't stop. It just overwhelms, doesn't it!?

  • thank you vey much for you reply. Did he sing also other songs that evening or only these two??

  • jest prawie tak dobry jak corelli

  • come bella mario

  • WOW now thats the way u sing it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Il più grande di tutti i tempi! Grazie Mario Del Monaco. Ovunque tu sia.

  • where and when did he sing this?

  • Del Monaco belongs to the golden years of opera. Today opera is just no better than holiday on ice. Boring and without passion. Art with no art.

  • Thats the Fucking Man Right There !! Mario "the Balls" Del Monaco. Cause Nobody sings with the balls this guys has.

  • otra produccion maravillosa del genio itàlico Grandisimno Del Monaco!!!!!

  • if you find a tenor today that sings like Del Monaco, please let me know. I will keep listening the old records of Del Monaco, Di Stefano, and Corelli, and don't go to the theaters. Today opera is a sad and boring show. Just a show. Grande Del Monaco!!!!!!

  • You are 100% right my friend.Today Opera is a joke and mediocrity rules.Perhaps, there are not good belcanto teachers like melocchi, who can teach the new generations of singers.

Mediocre teachers only produce mediocre tenors.

If Del monaco or Corelli were singing today they will put a lot singers out of business.

  • What do you think about Juan Diego Florez?

(even though he's not a dramatic tenor...)

  • Juan Diego Florez is today the best light tenor.

  • nun capisc manc o cazz

  • Please tell me you're joking.

  • Sorry. I thought you were saying Del Monaco's voice was small.

  • Just wonderful...

  • The big power. He is a kind of fantasm, a voice you dream and this guy just do it !

  • not only the best tenor. The best opera singer ever, best artist and actor. His energy, his expression of feelings were unique. My favorite singer.

  • Man.. I agree with you so much on so many levels... I sometimes find myself wishing his sound had a bit more refinement in it, but I keep coming back for more after all these years (25) of listening to him.

  • My vote: trumpet :)

  • Amazing.....Does this guy has vocal cords or a trumpet in his larynx???

  • i feel extremely comfortable hearing his voice..so broad, so shining

  • this man sang from the heart

  • The greatest tenor among the greatests!!!
