Mr. Gilbert did a couple of shows at the Iron Horse Music Hall in the early 1990's. Not only were the shows amazing, his personality left a lasting impression. Glad to see his music is still going strong.
I seen Vance in Springfield MO, when he came through with George Carlin he was awesome. A very Talented Artist i would love to see him come back to my part of the world.
I saw VG in NH for New Year's Eve...he was RIDICULOUSLY awesome. Some really old drunk crazy dude in the audience kept yelling out weird stuff that made no sense all night, and Vance kept making fun of him ("Sir, I would love to go along with you, but I have absolutely no idea what the hell you are talking about"). At the end, Vance had made up a song about this dude and sang it ("Nonsequitur Man"), totally CAPPING on him! HE IS A GENUIS, and the best around!
going to see George Carlin in an hour in Torrington, CT and this dude is opening for him, I will post my review and thoughts when I get back.
Weird to have a mellow songwriter open for a comedian you would think to get the people pumped it would be another comic or at least a funny musical act or somthing strange, not sure how this will flow, we will see.
I also saw Carlin a few years ago and Gilbert opened for him, too. Although you're right--he's an unexpected opener for a comedian like Carlin--he was amazing. It was actually one of my favorite parts of the night. Takin' It Back To Tennessee is a great song, and I'm looking to upload it soon.
My buddy dragged me to one of his shows in Framingham, MA and I was blown away. he has some more up-tempo songs that really rock, too. You said it harv, why don't more peeps know about his guy?
I saw him open for Carlin in Toronto... it made for a perfect mix of musc and vulgarity... One of the best shows I have ever seen. How is this man not more famous?
I saw Vance Gilbert when he opened for George Carlin in the spring. He was amazing. I'm not a huge folk fan, but he rocked my socks off! His songs from the Unfamiliar Moon CD are sweeeet.
