That very vague explanation doesn't seem at all likely or truthful. More likely he was addicted to prescription painkillers (that he brought into the BB house with a valid prescription) and when CBS realized how large his habit was, they refused to let him take the drugs at the abnormal levels he needed to avoid withdrawal. Even though they were legal prescribed drugs, CBS was probably afraid of liability issues if they allowed him to be drugged up while interacting with the other HGs.
