I'm from New Orleans and alot of my family and friends, along with myself, lost alot of pictures and priceless memories in hurricane Katrina. This brought me to tears because the only pictures that made it through the storm were the digital ones that had been uploaded to the internet. Very emotional commercial.
I was fortunate enough to have watched this clip in the cinema way back in 2005, in all its glory. Reduced me to tears big time. I have this linked in my YouTube channel as I am an event videographer and I very much connect with the Kodak message.
This commercial is by far the best ever made, I get very emotional whenever I see it. Truely inspiring, the photograph, the most precious of our memories, an instant of time preserved forever.
Keep me, protect me, share me and I will live forever. WOW
This piece reminds us all that even the most seemingly mundane image of daily life becomes a historical document 20 or 50 or 100 years later. I belong to a Historical Photograph Society and this is exactly what we try to help and encourage people to do with their photograph collections: "Keep them, Protect them, Share them...So they will live forever."
Otherwise, a basement flood, an attic fire, or a spring cleaning can wipe out the entire photographic history of a family, a town or a generation
@TheZedcast: I couldn't agree with you more! Years ago, I asked my sister if I could store my boxes of pictures in her basement? I had to fly to HK that week and there was a Monsoon headed to the Philippines then. They had to fly ALL the planes to HK to protect them! So, it was a case of fly now or later AFTER the Monsoon! So, I decided to fly out before the Typhoon hit & when I came back, I learned that her basement was flooded! I lost ALL my family, wedding and (my 3 daughters') Baby pictures!
Never before this has a commercial moved me to tears. This commercial has reminded me that as a photographer I am contributing so much more than pictures to this world. As is any person who ever had the joy of holding a camera, even if it was just on their phone. Memories. Stories. A moment in time. For others to see long into the future. This is the most outstanding commercial I have EVER watched. And I will remember it... for a good long time. If not forever.
When you want to watch a commercial again on youtube, you know they did a very good job making it, like the P&G Mom commercial from the 2010 winter olympics.
I liked the mix of pro photos and amateur ones.
I also enjoyed the Howard Bingham spot, and the kid say, "it's just okay." Typical of a kid!
I still remember when this commercial was on TV... I was like, eleven. It completely summarizes exactly why I adore photography SO much. This one touches my heart, mann. (:
The title for this commercial is incorrect. The correct title is "GALLERY", I work for the production company who made this commercial. The director is Joe Pytka.
Do you know if there's any way to obtain a better quality copy of this spot and also, could you tell us a little bit about the musical score - who composed it & its title? I think it's one of the finest pieces of advertising I've ever seen.
@strad36 It was actually broken up into several pieces to make some short commercials. I saw a thirty second version in a movie theatre and I was so impressed I tried to find it on the Kodak website. I found this full version (over 6 minutes) buried very deep on their site - what a waste. I did everything I could to get a DVD copy, but Kodak only apologized and told me that because of issues with the actors, they could not reproduce it or even use it any longer. Be glad it is still on YouTube.
Whoever came up with the ad deserved to be promoted to VP and given a corner office. Absolutely the best advertising a company has ever done. Compelling, emotional, profound, essential. "Keep me. Protect me. Share Me. And I will live forever" should be the mantra for every museum, gallery, archive and library in the world. Bravo.
One of the Best commercial every made ! I remember it from when it was first shown..... how many commercials can you remember after years? Thought to look it up on You Tube and here it is, Thank You for the post!
I contacted an associate at Kodak in Rochester and he put me intouch with a guy who let me know that Kodak only had rights to this awesom piece for a set period of time. As an amature archivist this piece gets me every time. Absolutely incredible marketing.
:35 was that lil girl in a jonas brother and demi lovato commercail? and the girl who asked about the b-day pictures was she on flight 29 down with corbin blu? cool and very long commercial!
there was a point were we could make our own version of this. i remember my dad did it, and they made a version of this commercial with pictures of me & my family, and other people that had Kodak cameras. does anyone else remember that?
Okay... every time I watch this I get chills and tears in my eyes... why isn't this commercial show all the time on TV? I have an annual membership to Kodak Gallery... this commercial would bring them in by the droves...
I called Kodak and asked for a DVD, but they told me that they could not do that. The first time I saw a short version was in a movie theater and I thought it was so cool that I checked on Kodak's website. It was there for about a year then it was removed. I'm glad it found a place on YouTube. It is actually more entertaining than some full-length movies.
Absolutely phenomenal video. It really validates why I suit up and go into work every day as a camera salesman. Makes me tear up every time I see it thinking that the cameras I sell make such a huge difference in people's lives.
Truly one of the best commercials ever made. Not only does it create an upwelling of (positive) emotion in one's heart, but it also attributes all of that to the brand. Essentially, Kodak keeps and protects your most precious moments, as well as those belonging to all of us. I would loved to have been a fly on the wall in the boardroom when this piece was show to the folks at Kodak! Wow.
This is magical. It really made me cry... This is exactly how I feel about photography & one of the reasons I want to be a photographer. Photos are amazing...they capture a 3D world into a tangible little image that you can hold in your hand. That moment will never happen again- ever...but it will be remembered forever because of the invention of photography. It's absolutely amazing.
This is especially meaningful to me. I buried my Mom yesterday. I spent hours this week going through pictures of my Mom for a display at her funeral. The pictures spoke volumes. This commercial made me cry. Thank you for creating such a beautiful piece on life through the lens of a camera!
debraann615, I'm so sorry for your loss. I had a similar experience. Earlier this year I buried my Father, and in the aftermath went through many photos. Seeing Dad in his prime was comforting and helped me in the mourning process. This commercial taps into those kinds of emotions successfully.
bwworld, I'm very sorry for your loss, also. Thank you for your response to my email about this very special commercial. Even though pics can't replace a loving parent, they can remind you of how lucky you were to have them!
Fantastic. I have been searching for this and was only able to find the short version.. I'm glad someone was able to find and post the long one. Amazing work.
i hate how our pictures aren't in there anymore. when the little black boy is staring at a picture it was at one point my mom's baby picture. there was a picture of my grandparents in there too, but i don't know why this one doesn't have it. ~:-(
A much shorter version was played on tv a few times and this full version was available on the kidak website maybe 2 years ago. I wrote to a marketing guru I know at Kodak a while ago and asked about it- where it went, could I somehow get a copy- he said they had a deal with the company that produced it that it could only be shown for a set period of time-- but here it is. Thank you Youtube and THANK YOU RICARDOA.

Without Kodak , we would have no visuals (significant) of our history .
A kodak picture is worth at least 1000 words . . . . . speechless , without Kodak .
