You should see the Germans today. They are a very peaceful, productive society. I married one and she's amazing. :) Lessons have been learned from the past. No need for grudges.
I'd love to do that. You guys that keep the memory alive..well your great! i've done reenactments before but never the Airborne which is where my interest really lies. 5*'s to ya!!
Awesome stuff. I was in St Mere Eglise that day, but didn't realize anyone jumped from a C47 That was at La Fiere, right? Anyway...I have some more video of the drops and ceremonies in my videos...itwont letmelink the video here...
Yep, that's right above La Fiere. They jumped just prior to the 82nd Airborne jump you have in your video. In fact the C-47 you have at the start of your clip is most likely the one they jumped from. Great video by the way! Brings back memories.
Nick, it is the same C47 we jumped from. The airspace was completely shut down that day and the "Fifi Kate" was the only civilian airplane flying around that day. That is us on Scott's video, and in fact the tolling of the noon bell of the church at SMR is dead on, with us flying by, since we jumped just after noon.
Airborne! We had to jump every anniversary on DZ Mormandy to celebrate the legacy. Is that tradition still ongoing? Probably not because of OIF deployments. thanks for the memories.
This is amazing! I love that you used the music from Band of Brothers to do this. It's really surreal and makes me appreciate the veterans all the more. Great tribute, both yours and the one these men did.
thanks for sharing. read about this jump...wanted to see it. are these modern day soldiers? i remember reading that some vets wanted to/did jump? some were denied i think which was just wrong. they should have been allowed to do what they wanted.
The majority of jumpers are living historians (reenactors). The 3 jumpers highlighted are from a reenactment unit in California. It was a great event. As for the vets who wanted to jump, it's my understanding that they were able to jump at a later time.
The majority of the airborne troops were current active duty Army Airborne soldiers of all ranks and units throughout the Army. I was the command bugler that performed Taps for many of the ceremonies throughout the Normandy area and was at the DZ (Drop Zone) during the jumps. The French were very good to us during our visit and we had a wonderful time sharing the experience.
The airplanes you see with the red and white stripes near the end of the main body were period aircraft of the time. Those that jumped from those aircraft were the actual Soldiers who jumped during the invasion at Normandy. Truly unbelievable!!! It was an amazing site to see.
Just to clarify, the jumpers in this video are mostly non-military. All the individuals jumping out of this plane are members of the Airborne Demonstration Team based out of Oklahoma. They were trained using WWII procedures and had to complete 5 jumps before earning their wings, just like the old days. These guys were handpicked by the ADT to jump from the C47 on the Anniversary. The modern day 82nd Airborne followed up this demo by dropping thousands of paratroopers...a sight to see!
I just "clarified" the information for you. The information you provided isn't legit. As I said, I was there at the DZ in person and was with the Commander of the entire event. 99% OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO JUMPED ARE MODERN-DAY ACTIVE DUTY AIRBORNE SOLDIERS.
abt-I was at St. Mere Eglise also on 6/6/04. It is true that the MAJORITY of jumpers at the ENTIRE event were military...but not so with this stick. The 3 jumpers highlighted are among my best friends. I edited this video taken by the wife of one of the jumpers along with my own video. There were no WWII veterans in this particular stick, nor are there any red stripes on this C-47. Please don't level charges of illegitimacy you can't support.
if this is the jump that took place 5/6/04, On this jump there were German/French/Belguim and Dutch that took place as well as around 4 Americans, one a Vietnam vet the jump master,he landed in a front windscreen of a car that was parked in a near by car park[un harmed]. Blokker[dutch] landed by the side of a house and another landed in a tree, which he had to be pulled from by on lookers. it was a jump that had been put together by Paul karremans[dutch]and an American in the u.s army.
I am with a Jap girl, too. Actually very decent people.

Very good video, I was there for the 60th. As a member of the 29th ID, we were escorting and accompying the veterans and their families.

WWII Combat Jumps were about 600ft half of what is the legal sport jump alt is. Normandy jumps were even lower to dodge flak.

To imagine hundreds upon hundreds of c-47's streaking across the sky dumping thousands of paratroopers.
It's amazing.
