Hello can someone help me . What is the name of the Tom Baker Dr Who episode, it has one of the Romana's and some other guy.
The other guy walks into a strange room and tries to run but can't get anywhere, like some force field is stoping him.
Dr Who pushs some button on the wall and Dr Who and Romana walk into the room and step on some sophisicated transporter zooms them across the room in seconds.
@musique1975 The best match I can think of The Pirate Planet, but that has Romana I. However it does a corridor where they are automatically pushed along by some kind of force. Funny I was just watching that one yesterday...
@unclebobpart2 he was brill think about it jelly babies, scarfs, sarah jane, romana he was brill and if you dont thing so then you need to see a doctor
I'm sorry but Tom Baker is actually hands down my least favorite Doctor. His Doctor just lacked personality and was quite boring in comparison to the ones who came after him.
@MrJo1340 everyone has there own doctor. Mine.... know clue because all the actors do a good job on their roles like when he was old and grumpy with Susan and when he was Tom Baker, halairious by the way :) and even Matt Smith is doing a good job for his own doctor. I actually believe that Paul McGann would have done a great job for the doctor if the story for the film of doctor who had been good enough to turn into a series but sadly no... still thiink he would have been great :)
Special Thanks to you timelord726, This video has had the most viewer referrals to my videos so I'm kinda repaying the favor by sharing this link with my Doctor Who group on Facebook, over 1000 members I have told to watch this vid and I think they will enjoy it regardless of me sharing it with them.
By now, I'm pretty sure I missed out from not knowing about this show back in its hey-day. Not that I even existed during this fourth doctor era, however. But I do get the vibe that was its prime, the fourth doc really looks the most like it.
Anyway, I'd heard the name before but I got here by watching the Family Guy Blue Harvest (Star Wars parody) movie. When they're going into hyperspace and this this title sequence kicks in... the music just got me. Freaking out of this world. Gotta have it.
i wuold just like to take this moment to say RIP liz who played sarah jane smith you were such a iconic person you may be gone but never fogoten i hope you you are up there flying in the stars flying though time and space with all the other grate dr who actors who sadly died
@rockymountainsunrise The idea of a definitive Doctor is silly. They're not different versions of the same character, they ARE the same character. As David Tennant said, I'm playing the same man as William Hartnell, I'm just wearing a different wig.
@MrMarvel323 Maybe, but here in America Tom Baker is the man. Besides, different actors will have different interpretations of the same character, regardless of what David Tennant thinks.
@rockymountainsunrise Definitely. Ask any American what they know about Doctor Who, and their immediate reaction will be "that freaky guy with the scarf".
@aquagrl63 Because that's when the show was genuine (and not even for the whole 7 years - but, you know, people went to see the star wars preqs b/c they were living off the memory of the original movies). It was iconoclastic. It was different from tv as usual. It didn't have the stuff tv shows are supposed to have: a beautiful lead who was a military captain or super cop, it didn't have music that sounded like a commercial, it didn't have a sig. theme with actors in various action poses...
@aquagrl63 It was weird and wonky and not trying to be anything other than itself; and it was this which had an impact and why the writers of Family Guy naturally think of Tom Baker when they want to make a drwho reference. Perfectly natural for anyone who is not a dues paying fanwank. Because the rest is just commerce, innit. Although I get that fanwanks are undiscerning, I still want to grab one and ask, "the boy chorus schtick used in action movie trailers? Really? xmas specials? Really!?"
@ion010101 This is actually why I like the fifth season of the new show. Because the music got way less intense, and Matt Smith is WAY less angsty than David Tennant. And there isn't a dramatic romance. It's just a girl and her quirky imaginary friend. It's less an action drama and more of an adventure show.
@aquagrl63 Sure. Say, can you imagine how shallow a person would have to be to not care about all that, to not even be able to get it (or be able to get it but not care)? Even worse, to then go on and shill for something that doesn't do anyone any favours (gay or w/e)? Can you imagine that? A creature like that would breathe their last not knowing, I should imagine. To be so undiscerning and w/o a clue. Horrible.
@aquagrl63 Why do people keep saying less romance?? There's a love triangle for gosh sakes, its like a soap opera now! And amy tries to bang the doctor which is wrong on so many levels, some of which being that she's getting married and that theres an 880 YEAR AGE GAP BETWEEN THEM
@pjrg1919 Yeah, but he's made it pretty clear that he is't interested at all, and Amy married Rory. I doubt that they're going to play up the love triangle this season. But let's not pretend the Doctor is asexual. He has a granddaughter. He just can't be with anyone because of who he is, and his lifestyle.
@aquagrl63 I think if there is a definitive Doctor it would be William Hartnell. But there isn't. Not in the same way
that people say there's a definitive James Bond, for example.Incidently, no actor has been Bond as Fleming described him, although you could say Daniel Craig comes closest. But obviously that's an argument for another video entirely.
this is scary... i can clearly remember watching this as a 2 1/2 year old but i was born in 1999. though in 1974 my mum and nan had a car crash so maybe it was a past life that i saw it. thats soooo scary

Of all the classic Doctor Who openings, I have to say that this one (including the few used for Jon Pertwee) is the most...professional looking & sounding. The others look kind of haphazard (older) or juvenile (newer).
I used to watch this when I was a kid, staying up late on Sunday nights and watching it on local access (WTTW Chicago). This intro used to give me nightmares, but the show was so fascinating I couldn't resist watching!
Pink Floyd-esque. It wasn't trying to be anything other than itself. It wasn't a parody of itself. For a while, it rose above camp. Sherlock Holmes in space. It was a kids show for bright kids, a straight drama that dared to take kids seriously; and that made it good for adults, too. The hero didn't need to be beautiful, or win the day with violence, or be a dashing military officer. It didn't need to be a commercial for itself, or court popularity with 100 voice boys choir action music...
I remember seeing this opening for the very first time in the mid 70s around age 10 and I was instantly captivated with the sound and visuals. It left an indelible and lasting impression on me. Imagine my surprise when I found out there were other actors that played the main lead!
@DALEK86 Im thinking about start watching these series, should i start with the really old episodes or is it a series you can just jump in to anywhere you please?

Is Tom Baker the definitive Doctor? (The... ah... Genuine Article?) Maybe. He was certainly the first I ever saw, and had a great big run. But he always had the air of someone laughing at you, and the the show and the fans. In many ways, he reminds me of the Star Trek movies, where Shatner, Kelly and Doohan would exceed their usual overacting and almost mug at the camera, as if to say "Yeah, we know it's awfully lame, and our fans are total dweebs, but I'm getting 3 mil plus points."

I am disappointed the show ever changed from the Tom Baker theme. Still the best one. Had all of the intrigue of the original from the 60s, with the little ornaments that made it interesting. Very haunting. The 80s one was trying too hard to be cool, and the newer ones are trying too hard to be John Williams (and who wants to hear that?). I'd love to see Matt Smith's next season open with the old, haunting, charming theme music.
Tom Baker remains my favorite actor to play the part... he's the first one I remember too. I like all the actors, but he is my on the top.
This theme is the best of the bunch with the Tardis flying out like that... awesome. Matt Smith's intro is similiar with the Tardis flying in a vortex. I like how the new shows are going retro...
Lucky enough to receive a letter and autographed picture of Tom. But I never met him.

Tom Baker was good but he was no Peter Davison or David Tennant. He is still in my top 3 however.

@rockingatheist: You're right; Baker was no David Tennant. He was a million times better. Mostly because RTD's Gary Stu man-crush on Tennant.
Tennant's actually a damn good actor, his Doctor just sucked because of the *cough* showrunner *cough*.
