  • wow

  • that finger picking tune makes me so happy theres no way i could be mad listening to it

  • good stuff

  • Stanley Jordan is 1 on his own when it comes down to his amazing technique.. check out his 'Over the Rainbow' the guy is genius... Born with an amazing gift.

  • dude displays more musical talent in 1:34 then i ever displayed in my all too apparently sad 8 years of guitar playing...would love to take atleast one lesson from this guy

  • "btw, i can perfectly alternate pick too. bitches."

  • why is it everyone's instinct is to compare jimi hendrix with stanley jodan anyway? they have completely different styles!!! hey lets compare eric johnson with garth brooks theyre both white guitar players !

  • is this an instructional vid?

  • @jose044

Yes, he made a VHS video many years ago.

  • Love your mellow sound. All on the same page musically. Love it when it all comes together like this.

  • @MrAtlantajazz

    Thanks for that comment :]

  • Stanley jordan eres el master de masters siempre el no. 1!!!!

  • SUPER!!!

  • OK lets hope a full blown holdsworth vs Govan doesn't start here...

  • i am tired of this....if you can't hear who what is playing i won't lose my time to explain.

think what you want just leave me alone

  • Stanley Jordan and Shawn Lane... nobody else can touch them. Well maybe Govan and Holdsworth. Just maybe

  • LOL...you dare put Govan and the others into the league Allan...LOL

Allan is the mastermind of electric guitar since 1969

  • @AtanasovPeter Same league? Yes. Holdsworth is like Coltrane with a guitar. Guthrie is a master of nearly every guitar technique. He has some really tasty improve too.

Funny thing about Allan, you ever watch his REH video? He says that he doesn't like the guitar and always wanted to be a sax player. That seems to explain a lot about his unique approach to the guitar.

  • i have heard all from Allan and all from Govan,Lane,Jordan.

Govan is a rockman he knows few chords and his improvisation is very weak from harmonic and Rhythmic side..his place is rock/shred music not fusion/jazz.Lane and Jordan are good.Govan and Lane are Holdsworth fanatic fans, gambale is Holdsworth fan, scott henderson is Holdsworth fan,Brett Garsed is Holdsworth fan,Steve vai is holdsworth fan,Yngwie malmsteen is holdsworth fan .maybe there is a reason just think what you what you want

  • Everyone is a fan of everyone. All of those players are also Hendrix fans.

Govan is definitly more of a rock player, I don't see why that is bad.

  • because everyone in this damn world is a rock player and it's getting pretty annoying if i hear one more pentatonic lick i will blow my brains out

and here comes Allan to save me ...no licks no lame harmony and no lame playing at all...please i do not wish to talk more about this...think what you want

  • Okay, sorry man. I didn't mean to upset you, I thought we were having a discussion. Holdsworth is the man, no argument there.

  • @AtanasovPeter Have you even heard Govan or seen any of his videos?

He knows more and is more skilled, generally speaking, than everyone you just mentioned.

All of those players are amazing though.

And those players are fans of other musicians as well; not just Holdsworth.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, there is no "best" in music, on any instrument.

  • @Element404 You are a moron. You dare compare other morons like you to Holdsworth.

  • @stevenoring holdsworth sucks balls. only the jigs can play jazz or the blues .

  • @stevenoring kiko loureiro check him out not comparing or anything just wanted to share

  • @loboDX182 Kiko is great too yeah! Especially his second solo-album is absolutely stunning! He's a very versatile player, very talented. From metal to jazz, all very very good! Stanley Jordan is extremely inspirational as well!

  • sensational1982

Jimmy Webster is actually the first tapping guitar player.

  • wrong my friend was Steve Hackett of Genesis also he was one of the first person's who create the sweep picking

  • Well if the video im about to mention is before steve hacketts time then you both are wrong. Its chet atkins. Go look at the video orange blossom special with chet. And chet also did sweep picking in his video with mark knopfler with chet atkins called instrumental medley.

  • Django Reinhard was sweeping in 1890-1920's

  • @A7XisGoDlY

    WRONG. FAIL.

  • "well im sure some artists have done it before"

yeah. Stanley Jordan did it before.

  • WRONG! Eddy has admitted several times that he went to a KISS concert and saw guitarist ACE do the technique live, went home and developed his own style.

  • @hkdaijobu You can never tell whether Eddie is telling the truth or not... He originally said that he saw Jimmy Page doing open string pulloffs and thought "what if i did that with two hands"

P.S. I used to play in Eddie's area when he was just getting into guitar, and I did two hand tapping, but only a simple version.

  • toca de mais, toca muito bem! é um gênio

  • Was Stanley Jordan the very FIRST one to use the touch technique?

  • Actually, I can hardly believe my eyes... Damn this is amazing.

  • master of every style. What a brilliant man.

  • last one is sweet!!!!

  • e eu pensei que o desgraçado só tocava no dedo....ele é demais!!!

    muito muito bom!!!!

  • omfg. what a monster

  • WTF is on his shirt? It looks like Reptar vomited and came on it.

  • It's called the 80s/early 90s.

  • lmao i was going to put the same exact thing.

  • haha me too

  • i mean. stanley really doesnt have any fashion sense! but thats not wat he's known for. he's know for wat he;s doin in this video

  • The guy's a musical genius. He could be wearing a trash bag and he'd still sound awesome. Eventually YOUR clothes will look dated and retarded. One more thing: it's spelled "Raptor."

  • Well OBVIOUSLY he's a genius. I was just commenting on how much more color there was in old clothes. Geez.

Also, google "reptar" and see what comes up.

I'm deleting the fucking comment now.

  • Reptar from the rugrats :D

  • this video nicely illustrates the evolution of his playing. I think he went to the finger tapping style because it allows him to make more complete music, both rythym and melody. very unique approach.

  • He was doing the tapping at this point, its just that he was giving an example of how he played when he stared out.

  • the michael jordan of guitar...stanley jordan.

  • what is the best fruit? .is it a banna?, an apple?, a peach or maybe a passionfruit? or...what is the best colour? Blue, black? white? red? or is it irrelevent? I think each one is unique. To compare great things or great people is childish. Learn to appreciate all things for what they are. This guy is amazing. Hendrix was amazing. Emmanuel, Vai, Satriani,,,etc..etc..etc...all amazing. Dam...the little guy i saw busking down the street was amazing. I appreciate them all.

  • @porterhouse56 OMG, a reasonable person on YT :D. I could not agree more.We have to appreciate great musicianship even if the style is not our favorite!!

  • @smilingeuterpe agreed..btw,, banana... lol

  • Elbow picker!

  • hendrix was an innovator in his time.... but i think he's quite overrated

  • LMAO! Wow you're ignorant regarding music. If you don't know anything, don't open you mouth or should I say post about guitar playing. Hendrix was an original. Learn about someone before you say they are overrated.

  • god damn why are you clowns talking about hendrix?!?! okay, he was good for his time, he wrote classic songs yeah yeah yeah. but it;s really lame how he is still on the cover of all the guitar magazines at least one every other month. get over it people, there are many many other great players coming up and innovating guitar playing such as stanley jordan

  • Stanley Jordan actually reminds me of Hendrix in the way that his rhythm is completely independent of the melody. (Hendrix used his voice for the melody, Jordan uses the guitar)

  • dissin Jimi? say it aint so!! :O

  • Question the status quo, grosshopper.

  • why does our favorite have 2 be the best..if u think about its kind of insane..There are the innovaters and then there are alot of unique ppl that sound good, thats it and thats all...

  • favorite

  • This guy is dangerous even in the traditional sense...

  • of the 2, hendrix and jordan, hendrix was the mack, melting many a honeycomb hideout; however, Jordan is the more physically and mentally healthy one of them, appearing in generally good spirits and good health. but as guitarists, both are truly innovative and fascinating.

  • he's just incredible

  • jimi hendrix is not BLUES....period!

and stanley is diff in his own way and so was jimi!..

  • haha...are you serious?

  • uh actually hendrix started out as a blues guitarist and was continuously influenced by the blues in his playing

  • hang on, hendrix isnt blues??? HAHAHAHA!

  • but hendrix always had at least 2 hos with him.

  • This guy totally RULES on guitar. He is so overlooked its not even funny.

  • This is one of the best musicians and in my opinion hendrix was an inovator of his time and stanley is an inovator of this time, but hendrix doesn't even got close to stanley's feet.

  • Hendrix could not play what Jordan does here --he simply does not have the accuracy, complexity and speed that Stanley does. Hendrix was amazing in his own right, but he was not a technician by any stretch and his phrasing abilities were very limited, especially compared to those of Jordan.

  • You spelled "compare" wrong...

  • wow i didnt think he knew what picking was lol but still amazing when he does

  • wow so this was before he became a finger tapper playing rhythm and melody at the same time? still amazing though

  • This video was made after his career as a tapped began. Stanley developed his touch system in the early 1970s, incidentally.

  • the finger picking part is so tasteful
