I went to see this film and I did think that the film should of starred actual German actors. Only one of the actors in the film was actually German and that was Thomas Kretschman. The actor who played Hitler wasn't as good as the one in Downfall, I'd recommend Downfall that's a better film about Hitler. They did however capture the whole re-enactment of how they planted the bomb that almost killed Hitler and why it failed.
I'm looking to see if I can get the film in German.
I saw Thomas Kretschmann >.> Buahaha. :-) B+ is a good grade for this one, watched it recently and it's refreshing to get a hero point of view for once from an axis side.
this movie was terrible to me hitler doesn't even look right and how does the guy who tom cruise plays as get shot perfectly in the eye by a machine gun firing of a airplane.
LOLL the guy who played Hitler looked Alot like him from a long shot but not as a close up they should have not showed him close up and another funny thing about this film is that most of the actors playing nazis were all English lol.
3rdly, Singer has no expierence, hes reaching to high for something that was in effect a very insignificant event in the Third Reich and lastly, Stauffenburg was no Hero, he wanted to replace Hitler with royalty, he was a royalist - swapping one evil for another (wow thats heroic), added to that most of the infomation on the coup was reported on by the Nazi State and it dont take half a brain cell to realise what that means
Did the people who liked this abomination to war films forget that 1) the film is no where near as accurate 2) Tom cruise was painfully bad 3) it was directed by someone who has little to none expierence on war films and it shows 4) the main character was NOT a hero, he just wanted to replace Hitler with someone else because he was a royalist and lastly, it is NOT difficult to get a hold of Nazi uniforms in hollywood, making it nothing special and the final insult is "Based on a true story"
Ok firstly, has anyone whos watched this movie ACTUALLY read books on the july plot? if not then dont lecture someone whos studied this area of history about accuracy, 2ndly Tom Cruise hasnt had a good movie since Top Gun and even now when you look back on that its just "wow how cheesey",
And another thing the phrase "Based on a true story" doesn't have to mean that it's true to the story, if it is based on an event e.g the attempted assassination of adolf hitler then it can be tweaked as they please. Hitler could have died at the end and they still could have used based on a true story.
I saw it tonight. Absolutely awful. I couldn't get over the US accents. Also the guy who played Hitler was rubbish (should have used Bruno from Downfall - he nailed it) but Himmler was good. Cruise can't act - he always seems to play the exact same character, only the names change. I also have to question the casting decision. This isn't Cruise's 'thing'. Not only that, Scientology is very close to nazism.
Also I believe this was the 19th attempt, not the 43rd.
you dont know anything tom cruise was good at playin the lead, if Valkyrie really did worked in the first time things would be different so stfu u bish im random igght?, tom cruise is sexy aint like u. HAIL HITLER!. not! SIKE! HAIL COOKAY, oh yeah suck my puss u bitch ass mofo igght nigga?
Personally, I think the trailers were misleading. I walked in the theatre thinking "oh god this movie is going to be great it'll be action packed and everything", however, as I walked out of the theatre, I was slightly disappointed at the lack of action. I will say that the storyline and the dramatic scenes (usually involving people in fancy suits) were very interesting. I liked the way they set up the suits and everything, too. It just seemed like a very professional movie. Also, good review.
Yeah, i enjoyed the movie. The director took a risk, and yeah i agree on the ending thing. The Usual Suspects i enjoyed very much as well so it's always great to see directors making new and risky movies.
Cruise had all the charisma of a walnut and failed to do justice to Col. Von Stauffenberg or his efforts to take down Hitler. Further, the story of Nina Von Stauffenberg was paid short shrift. About the only saving grace of this film was the cinematography.

War of the worlds
Vanilla Sky
Mission impossible
Minority report
It's pretty hard to dismiss those four, they were all solid films.

Damn good movie! Too bad operation Valkyrie did not go according to plan! Kernel Stauffenberg you are a real hero!

History would be so different had Stauffenberg succeeded. The story of Valkyrie would of course be more known and who knows what else?
