Your videos are very inspiring. I'm an engineer and a gardener, and I enjoy building my garden projects as much as doing my gardening. I have plans to build a greenhouse and a methane digester this year. I will produce and store methane year round and use it for heat in the greenhouse all winter. I'd love to see you do a video on your control system for your greenhouse. Thanks for taking the time to produce these videos during a very involved project.
was it hard to get a permit for a Rocket stove ? .. Also are you Going to Have fish to eat or just goldfish like your little greenhouse.. Im in Ct too so i wanna see someone either do tilapia in colder climates or trout even breeding trout an I know you'd figure it out lol
@Living4fishing permit? You're funny! ;-) I do have a permit for the greenhouse and it just states "wood heat" with not details. I'll start the system with koi or goldfish, then probably put in some trout or other native fish. It will be far too cold for tilapia and I don't want to waste the energy trying to heat the water that much.
@web4deb Web4deb- Did you get your idea from a guy named Kacper who sells the Biodome How to program over the web? Reason I ask is that he says that given a certain amount of water (let's say 50 gallons), he says that if the water heats up during the day, then at night the water should release some heat to complement another other heating source. I like the wood idea because you are surrounded by forest. Would you have decided in favor of solar if that had not been the case?
@Becksdad0803 to heat a space this large would take a lot of solar panels to store enough heat in water for the night. It's very expensive to build a system this large. A simple wood heater is cheap and I have an unlimited supply of wood for it. Sorry, I don't know who Kacper is. I modeled my design from the calculations from a russian web site and grabbed a few ideas from Growing Spaces
Hi, isn't two barrel rocket stove to high? usually there are only one barrel stoves. Do you have picture or video haw you isolated the inside chimne in barrels?
:) he he, do agricultural buildings have a lot of regulations there? Also, you could get the heat from composting wood, which also produce co2. And it will meet the codes i recon. :) ( A bit wasteful with heat though, since you cant really turn it off when there is no need for more heat.)
Could you show in detail about your rocket Heater. It seems small to heat the whole dome? How do you clean the ash out? I am a southern boy, this is new to me. Thanks
@WE3HINES There isn't a lot of ash...I'll probably have to clean it out every few days. There's a very good book that details how they work called "Rocket mass heaters: supperefficient woodstoves you can build" by Ianto Evans & Leslie Jackson that is worth the read. My next video will detail a few things, but not the detail that this book goes into.
Like I said before, you do great work. My greenhouse is not advancing as fast as yours. Wish I had more time to spend on it. Are you happy with the resulting heat from the RMH. How long is the exit flu?
@bigamejames1 I wanted to increase the chimney height to get a stronger draft and also more surface area on the barrels. Eventually, there will be a cover over the entire thing and the heat will be blown down under the floor.
i was wondering what was the cost from start to finish for the whole green house.
youngsavage80 3 weeks ago in playlist More videos from web4deb
@youngsavage80 a lot more than I wanted to spend! the dome was cheap...it's the rest of if that cost a lot. It will be around $30K when complete.
web4deb 3 weeks ago
@web4deb yea that is alot but it looks like you did a great job tho.

are you going to pipe some of the flue gas back into the greenhouse?
the extra Co2 is great for the plants

Burns like a rocket, sounds like a rocket...
Tease accomplished!
I'll lay in a good supply of popcorn for Episode 10's release!

This was beautiful and poetic... man braves the cold to build a rocket mass heater... Robert Frost would write about something like that.

You can also get good results with worm composting to heat the greenhouse. Both would be ideal.

@web4deb @0.40 you're getting a good horizontal burn there! Sounds like a rocket sucking the air in. What's with the double barrel height?

Can you get big wood in there for long burn time?
FloppyHatPhotos 1 month ago
@FloppyHatPhotos Nothing too big. For next year, I'll work on making a feeder so I can burn pellets in it.
