awesome basking area im totally redesigning mine after seeing yours. and i like some of your comments in the info
No. I am not working at a zoo or an aquiram place to provide such luxary dream fantasy to these pets. I have provided a good environment for their survival n of good care does not mean i dont care, but its wat i can do.
friggin knowitall smartass jaggasss hater bytches can suckkk off
8 red eared sliders in a few years you'll nead probably about a 800 gallon tank if they all grow to 10 inches and 10 gallons per inch of turtle holy fucking fuck fuck fucker that's like 1000$
That 20 gallon is the 20 gallon long version that's good for just 1 big red slider so if you stupid ppl think like spending 500$ on a huge tank well do it cause it's wrong! Wait till your turtle grows big it's not there time you need to stay calm!
i hope you have now a bigger aquarium! it is to small for 8 red eared slider turtles ! I have one red eared slider turtle an my aquarium has 100 gallon and it is also to small, because the red eared slider turtle need a lot of room to swim and they sun bathes.
@jaimetheskater1 its in the info section. basically a plastic draw i cut out till there was the bottom piece n left 1 of the side n back uncut. i then used 1 of the side pieces to cut as a platform n placed a cloth over it n had rocks underwater hold it from the bottom n another layer of cloth ontop of the basketing area.
@studlife420 hmm not sure on the watt lvl, but as long as it gives off UV heat to ur turtles its ok, u can turn it on 24/7 if u want, but just use it as a sun ray for them, if u have them near a window or something wheres there light for them alrdy, u dont need to have it on, but if its too little light as in a flashlight then u should have it on for them, u can also turn it off when ur sleeping though at night.
Your suppose turn it on when the sun comes up and turn it off when the goes down. Turtles in the wild do no get sunlight 24/7 so why should our turtles get that even if they are in captivity.
The only way to keep a heat bulb on at night is a black/red night bulb us humans can see the red/purple but turtles cannot.
@studlife420 actually theres some debate over wether or not to keep the lights on ... it doesnt hurt to turn them off at night so i would reccomen that .. mine seem to have no problem and actaully seem to prefer it ... however house temps can get kinda chilly .. i would reccomend a red or black heat light for the basking area (above it anyways) the red or black light can actually stay on at night and have no bother to the turtle and go with a 50 watt places about 10-12 inches over 80-90 degrees
@41015747 well its in info i provided n in the video-i cut out a plastic draw i had n left the bottom/back/1 of the side uncut then used 1 of the cut outs to cut into a mid size square piece as a floating dock. so wat i did was wrap cloth material around it n tied it in the back then placed it with another piece of cloth with rocks holding in the bottom, the top layer was placed under the cloths surface of the basking base thus held the dock
my turtle is a shy one it is very shy when it wants to climbs the rock but when it climbs it will dive into the water very aggresively when i enter the room . im afraid it will not get enough light.help me.
@madturtlefan actually my turtles do the same, it just startle them thats all, cause we r large creatures n its their nature to run away by diving in the water away from predators. so dont worry, its their natural reflexes. if u like to practice, u can be in the prescent more n them slowly rise up from where u sitting or walk slowly from where their looking like slow walk - n that helps them get use to ur prescent
The tank is too small for 8 turtles. I read your description and I understand that you have a low budget or whatever, but then you shouldn't have bought 8 turtles. Sticking with two would have been a better choice for the turtles health. I'm not hatin on you, just tellin the truth.....
Man you gotta get some info about RES your tank is WAY too small for 8 turtles even though they are still small. your filter is tiny as hell for as many turtles and whatever it is that your basking area is made of doesn't look strong at all.
cool tank im getting ready 2 set up a 75 gallon all i need is the stand. but anyways i really like your basking area it was a good idea 2 make it like that
I got my 7 x 3 x 2 213 uk gallons yesterday, just need to get it in my house as its in the garden atm and then set up, i already have vids of my turtles but when thats done i will do a update in therei new tank
well turtles basic needs r - large space to swim (which is mostly y most ppl tell u to get a big tank) basking area for it to dry with the uv light bolb (this allows them to recover/rest/other good benefits) and for size of the tank for turtles, pick wat suits ur budget, like start with a 20g tank n get a larger tank when u need it
Keeping this many turtles at once is going to be a pain in the ass. I have 2 red eared sliders in 120 gallons and they're outgrowing that steadily and I'll soon have to get them something humongous. I hope you've got the money to care for these turtles properly :P
hey man i got a 20L too but i was wondering what type of filter were u using and also what kind if any heater? and any suggestions on a lamp for 20L lol ive had 1 baby turtle for like 2 months now? and i just got a 20L for it...id appreciate some advice from you since youve got 8 :D
i custom made it out of a draw i had n cut 2 sides of it off, n i used a peice of the a small side of 1 as a lil bridge n held a cloth on it to stay float on a certain lvl with the rocks in place on the bottom
well i got mine in a certain pet store, i dont think they allow baby turtles to be sold cause its illegal how ppl get them, but i got mine in a certain pet store in New York, Flushing in Northern Paradise i think the store is called, cost 5 dollars per baby turtle. other areas over price them plus they sell it for like 12-18 dollars per baby turtles in those tiny tanks which r like torture to them
nice tank dude whatever you may need in the future, obv you have done well to keep the other biggies for a year, im hoping for the same results myself. Thanks
Honey i hope you know that a female will et about the size of a dinner plate! now i usualy dont like when people leave these kind of comments and im sure you did your homework but i hope you can afford about a 150 gallon tank within the next five years and since you havnt yet im assuming money is a bit of an issue so start saving now. again im not trying to be rude and im sure you already know but on the other hand you should have known that you would get negative comments from animal activist!
lol yea i noe, atleast ur kind enough to comment the way i like people to comment about, unlike the other rude ppl, putting dumb comments that i alrdy noe, so tyvm for ur comment n the economy is bad right now so yea, money is an issue rite now so the turtles need to wait for that big tank till i finish my tuition for college first
the basking thing is actually a plastic draw i cutted to make it into a basking area n i put cloths ontop of it so the turtle can climb on it with their claws n it feels better for them when they go ontop of it, but they usually hang on the edges only, usually dont go ontop for some reason
I don't know if using a cloth for a basking area is such a good idea. It might start growing mold all over it. I use an above tank basking area so I can maximize my tank space. Just an idea that I think you should try. Takes a little effort to build it but they work great.
no, but the first week he thought some parts were turtle food till i taped the glass n stuff when he seemed like he was going to bite somewhere that looks like food to it, like it spectates like it was food but its not n then after that he got use to the small 1's
... yeah.. it's nice to see someone polite on youtube these days, a d I know they don't grow up in a blink, it's jstu the rule of thumb i've seen is what? 10 gallons per inch on a turtle, you have 8 so even if they were jsut 3 inches each you have a problem. but yeah I was jsut saying, people tend to forget that turtles, live msot living things, grow bigger (it surprised me too but i've seen alot of evidence of this idiotrcy) and so they do not plan ahead.
so y bother wasting ur time on my vid? vid was uploaded not for u guys to tell me info about turtles, but just look at my vid n make a quick comment like cool, nice turtles n blah blah, so plz quit trying to post useless comments that i dont need on my vid or ill just delete them all
Im probably going to get a 50 gallon aquarium for my sharks and make my 20 gallon a reptile or turtle tank which each tank would be beside eachother and i would be really happy :3
o btw theyr r cloths not towels haha :D, so the water soaked in it holds it down or i put rocks on it to hold it down, but imma make a new video rite now :D
my friend is trying to imitate you, he's getting a 20 gal tank and wants to buy more turtles, i disuaded him to since 4 turtles in a 20 gal tank is a little cramp now, but hwen they grow older it's goign to be a big problem since they can each grow up to be a foot long, jstu thoutgt you'd liek to know your video had an impact,
well they dont just grow a foot in a snap u noe, they take time to grow so i take things slowly, thats y u "raise" them if u buying them as baby turtles, so ty for telling me, but i alrdy knew that so yea...
they sure are cute my myrtle was like that when she was a baby so was Beach (RIP beach i miss you) but anyway when your cute little turts start to grow up they will all need a serpate tank to live in which means 8 tanks that is if some don't make it because babys can get sick easily.
you fool, they will grow so fast and they get huge. they will all die unless you get a HUGE tank. and i mean huge like thousands of gallons..... it'll end up costing you thousands...pfffft
i feed them dried baby shrimp things, but i did buy them live gold fishes like 2 weeks ago n they ate them within 2 weeks, but not like chasing them or anything but just ate them when they wont move or were sleeping, so they r sneaky lil things hehe
but if u gonna feed them fish, dont feed them till they r like bigger than like 1 1/2 inch by their shell size atleast, so i would feed them dried baby shrimps in a different tank/bowl n put them back in their regular tank so u dont have to clean the tank water so much, cause the food makes the tank water dirty really, and scoop up their poop with a lil net or something n thats pretty much it
Great for when there small, but when they get big your either seperating them or spending a fortune on a huge tank, im buying a 180gallon long type tank for my 3 turtles now.. :/
dude shut up cause my tanks are big enough for them because i use the method one turtle for ten gallons so be quiet! you are abusing them! And i've been studying herpetology since kindergarten and will know more about reptiles and amphibians then you will ever know! And i dont keep my turtles in carts! where did u come up with that?
ok 1st of all, thats ur method. 2nd of all, ur turtles r 3inch+ big u dumbass, most of mine r still babies which proves how stupid u r n wasting money,3rd of all the tank is still temporary n 4th, wtf u talking about!? the plastic draw is smart idea u fucken idiot, y waste money when u can make somethin custom n efficient for their environment,so stfu u dont noe shit about repitiles/amphibians,so go play ur lil fucken guitar,n grow some balls till then, so keep shit to urself!HI HATER!BYE HATER!
depends wat they usually adopted to eating, my turtles doesnt eat the green stick like food for some reason, they only eat the dry baby shrimps =/, or it could be the waters too cold, so if that doesnt work, try feeding them in a diff tank above water so they go under it n eat it like a shark would thats how my turtles noe when its feeding time lol
cool!! I have a red-eared Slider at home!!! I named mine Slider lol!! it's a cool name for me!! Btw, nice tank. i got mine for Christmas at the year of 2006 ( end of the year just about)
google it or something, n i hope u dont put the RES with the alligator snapping turtle, the alligator snapping turtle would probrably attack n rape the RES turtles lol
i dont think i need it soon from now, i got enough time for them to take time for their growth but i like to thank u guys for commenting on my video lol
cool i thought i had alot of turtle but then i saw your and you have . i had 6 then i saved 1 then the one i saved died and now i have 6 you should check out my basking area yours is pretty cool

caphits 3 years ago
I had a small red ear slider that was only a couple of inches long, but after 1 or 2 years, she is nearly 10 inches long now.
If you give them the right amount of space, they will grow amazingly fast.
Your tank might be okay for now, but consider how fast they grow, and how many you have.
I have one adult turtle in a 75 gallon pond, and she still wants more space, and 2 babies in my 20 gallon that i am considering upgrading soon.
Just a heads up for you, no hating :)

i got a question my baby res turtle dosent eat wat should i do?
he hasent eating in 2 days :(
cueto4life 3 years ago
depends wat they usually adopted to eating, my turtles doesnt eat the green stick like food for some reason, they only eat the dry baby shrimps =/, or it could be the waters too cold, so if that doesnt work, try feeding them in a diff tank above water so they go under it n eat it like a shark would thats how my turtles noe when its feeding time lol
