Thank You for this version, I really like the key and the whole arrangement and of course, Ben E. King. Perhaps next time you can show a beautiful mulatto girl with a red rose in her teeth,I've also been attracted to these kinds of women, you know the ones that look like Prince's ex's, Vanity or Apollonia.
reminds me so much of my wonderful wife...she's "...never seen the sun...growing up thru the concrete...in spanish harlem " . ..my wife is not spanish, but she has been a wonderful mom to the kids in the spanish area we live in ...especially those from broken homes...sacrificed her desires of a better home in a nicer area, so these kids can have ...a home to come to...in times of need...
i laugh everytime i hear this...i went to work with my dad whos a bma for the mta with buses and this guy was talkin how he was a bus operater in east ny so my dad told a story of how he worked on 127th st. in harlem and had a shot gun pulled on him and the guy started singing this song hahaha
Reminds me of Billy Joels' An Innocent Man.I sang this with my friends band in1980, the crowd liked it. Although i was a little nervis. Thanks for the upload hubirudi great memory for me.

Such sentimentality, expression, so very rarely found today. I once had a red rose, just down the street. Have now refound her, after over 40 years.

The violins and horn in the background make this unforgettable. And the backup singers make it even more beautiful.

This song is for the most beautiful rose in Spanish Harlem, my Grandma Antonia. I know she smiles down on her Flamenco Dancer.

The first time I heard this song was on a troop ship and the machine was stuck on this song. That was in 1961; heading to Naples, Italy.
