  • looks like the film crew got to Mark when he was in the middle of shavin his beard

  • Should have been played by BRIAN BLESSED!

  • well go get the breastplate stretcher

  • He kind of reminds me of George RR martin.

  • Stannis Baratheon is coming...

  • I love the way G.R.R. Martin has constructed the 'Game of Thrones' universe. He directly draws upon real world history and historical events - particularly Anglo/Welsh experience of the Wars of the Roses - and integrates them in a way which is both original and entirely absorbing. The bloody soap opera that was the High and Late Middle Ages has been given an element of fantasy but in such a way that it feels real and believable; also anyone who has seen 'In Bruges' has got to love Tyrion.

  • still standing ftw

  • I don't know if this has ever been said, but don't you think that King Robert was inspired by several English kings or monarchs from other countries. Right now I can say with certainty 2. One is Henry VIII, because he started slim and healthy and in later life became fat. The second is William II, because of the way he dies - in a hunting "accident". Does anyone else see traits of other historical monarchs in him?

  • you've got fat.

  • This guy should play Santa Claus

  • I hate Robert with a passion since GOT. Honestly, he deserved everything he got - fathering 26 bastards, beating on his wife, drinking constantly, ruining the kingdom's coffers, thinking he's such a scion of righteousness by wanting the Targaryens dead. JUST BECAUSE YOUR PRETTY LITTLE NORTHERN BITCH RAN AWAY WITH ANOTHER GUY DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE ENTITLED TO DO STUFF LIKE THAT, SER. (Of course, I may be a bit biased because of my love for Cersei, but still...)

  • @cincinattibear his wife is fucking her brother, he only exorted to killing the targaryen after listening to his council- WHICH he recanted. so he enjoys being rich? get over it. at least he went down like a man hunting a dangerous animal. Long Live King Robert! who else after him can peacefully secure the seven kingdoms?

  • @BlainePistolle Mind if I correct you sir? Since Robert is dead, you don't say "Long live King Robert" but rather "King Robert, may he rest in peace!"

    Just saying :D

  • @greykaiser75 I do mind if you correct me. I am a Prince of the Romani, and you are a non-Gypsy and beneath me.

  • @greykaiser75 wow, shoulda put a (; in there, im offensive sometimes.

  • @greykaiser75 The king is dead. Long live the king.

  • I hate Cersei, that bitch.

But Robert was an awful husband indeed, I can't blame her for betraying him.

  • @CaesarDCW He was a bad husband because of Lyanna or however Ned's sister is called

  • I've never been sure whether or not I like Robert.

I mean sure, he has a much better sense of humour than many other characters, he did good to usurp power from the Mad King and he's well-acted. No-one can deny that.

But he's quick to anger, plots to murder a girl who's never done anything wrong and is constantly unfaithful to his wife without remorse.

I suppose you could argue that he's typical of the "neither good nor evil" approach to these characters, but still, he's difficult to like.

  • @TheJboy88 I think as far as characters of this series goes, he's as close to a good guy as there is. Many of his faults can be laid at how drunk he gets, and also the fact that he is surrounded by poisonous advisers. Remember he was counselled to kill Danerys. No he isnt exactly charismatic or noble, but he is just, good hearted and well meaning. Many of the likeable characters turn out to be the most evil...

  • Not saying I'm rooting for the Lannisters, but Robert was kind of an ass and may have had what he got coming to him.

  • Robert is a BAMF's BAMF.

  • Come, bow before your king, bow, you shits!

  • One of the things I love is how RIDICULOUSLY well cast everyone is

  • No dislikes.. my lord..

  • All hail the crowned stag

  • Ours is the Fury!

  • As much as I love Robert's actor, I can't help but feel that they should have had BRIAN BLESSED as the king.

  • @majormax13 That would be pushing it a bit, eh? Robert's in his thirties. Mark's in his fifties. Brian, meanwhile, is in his seventies. Not that I don't agree. He's certainly who I pictured.

  • @RabidBogling Mark Addy is actually about 47, he was younger than Sean Bean during the show. Weird, eh?

  • START THE DAMN JOUST BEFORE I PISS MYSELF!!!

  • @msalgadosp What do we say to the God of death?

  • @Tanarus20 Not today. :- ) Hehehe. Happy 2012. ^^

  • @Tanarus20 ohai God of death!

  • English actors. :D

  • whats up with his beard?

  • Piss on that!

  • Something is missing.....

  • Drunk old fool O:

  • OH GOD WHY DOES MARK ADDY LOOK LIKE RODRIK CASSEL WITHOUT THE WHISKERS AND WHITE HAIR

  • I love King Robert's laugh xD

  • Loved him in still standing and loved him in Game of thrones!

  • "I'm trying to get you to run my kingdom while I eat, drink, and whore my way to an early grave." Life can't get much better than that. Hail to the King!

  • Oh wait Littlefinger started it lol, By telling Lysa to...spoiler :p

  • there is still plenty of time for flashbacks

  • @tyrionimpstark777 time yes.. money? I think not. considering how many new big players characters are introduced in the next season, HBO prolly wouldn't blow the budget to bring back the big name casts

  • @rydendm thanks for ruining my day with logic. lol

  • He plays Robert well, good job

  • Mark Addy has such a great fat person laugh. He sounds kind of like Chris Farley when he laughs. R.I.P. Robert, you should have taken Joffrey with you.

  • @luman97 You made my day :D

  • i absolutely love roberts laugh, it cracks me up every time

  • he know how to live life to the fullest but man, is he irresponsible. he leaves a shit legacy. can i get an amen?

  • @maxten ...he saved the kingdom from the mad kings by starting a rebellion..he is forgiven

  • @ps8hand saved the kingdom? you ought to read the books. the stag and the lion don't belong in bed. the kingdom is in debt and at war. SPOILER ALERT

  • @maxten what the hell are you talking about? Im talking about the first war...with Aerys and Roberts rebellion...i dont mean the five kings or anything lol...Robert has nothing to do with that...Jofrrey started it by killing Ned Stark...

But i agree with the debt lol. Robert spend way to much money, but i like it, cause its painful for Cersei :) And i hate her

  • @ps8hand but he really didn't "save" the kingdom. he only brought peace for a brief moment. and he is kind of stupid, too. he should've had his own spy, trustee thing. i know i am being way too judgemental of robert, but i think he should've found out about cersei's incestual relationship through jon arryn, littlefinger or varys. he could've done a lot less worse by staying more sober. he is made out to be a warrior not a king. Ned Stark is more kingly and wise.

  • @maxten Exactly...Ned was to good to be king...that why he lost...THE GAME OF THRONE :)

Seriously...to be king you would need to be...bad...in a littlefinger way :p

  • @maxten "Ned is more kingly and wise."

Wich is Exactly why he lost teh Game Of Thrones...you have to be fat or corrupt to sit the throne :)

  • @ps8hand i dont know about the "fat" part but you're right. to deal with a lannister or a bolton, you gotta have a mind like littlefinger.

  • @maxten You dont like fat people?XD

  • @maxten

Robert had few allies. Vary's has always had his own motives, and most likely didn't inform Robert out of is desire for continued peace in the Realm. Jon Aryn would have told Robert, but Cersi made sure that wouldn't happen, now didn't she? Littlefinger is totally self serving, and indeed, Roberts death was quite beneficial to him.

  • @ChainX you're right but still he would've learnt more if he was less drunkenly ignorant.

  • @maxten

Considering the company he kept, him becoming aware of the goings on around him would have just led Cersie, or some one else, to kill him sooner.

  • @ChainX True enough, only one problem. You misspelled most of the names. Cercei, not Cersi, Jon ARRYN, not aryn, and Varys, without the 's'.

I'm sorry, but reading the books, it really makes it painful for me to ignore that.

  • @badkiller2

I pity anyone who is pained by the misspelling of a few names. You have a good day.

  • @ChainX And I pity anyone who can't take proper critism about his spelling.

You have a good day too, and do go over basic grammar when you have the time.

  • @ChainX And yet you yourself misspelled "Cersei". Impressive to see a spelling Nazi fail so hard while criticizing someone else. Lighten up, Francis.

  • I wanna see him young wearing his anther helm and holding his war hammer

  • @snedden27

I was hoping for a flashback as well. Robert in his prime is an absolute beast.

  • King Robert is a completely fool. But not a bad fool.

He's just don't know shit about being king.

  • To be honest Robert didn't really appeal to me he was such a child and so pitiful. Not to mention a bigger whore then Zeus!

  • Agreed... I'd prefer to see a giant of a man play robert like in the books... but Addy probably did better than any other actor could have...

  • shaycarl with a crown

  • That awkward moment when your high school history teacher doesn't know who Robert defeated on The Trident during his rebellion.

  • @theparadox89 So damn true. What is with our education system these days?

  • @theparadox89 your teacher does NOT know who Rhaegar was?!?

NOW she has awaken he dragon!! BEHEAD THE BITCH AND PUT HER ON A SPIKE!!!

  • @theparadox89 Rhaegar Targaryen!

  • He looks like a totally different person without the beard lol

  • Ours is the fury

  • the boar was gonna dislike this but it died to robert instead

  • he's like Henry VIII

  • Where the fuck is his beard and moustache? :S

  • um. the dude from still standing? haha, nice

  • I thought the character of Robert was portrayed perfectly, exactly how I imagined him!

  • He may not be the best king but he's still a way better king then Joffrey.

  • Comment removed

  • I really liked him in the first two episodes, then he became a douchbag.

  • @ScienceManComics Is there any particular reason for this?

  • @Wallflower13713 Nah, not really.

  • A slow down Poison and a Boar

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not so sure this guy was well chosen to play Robbert. The king is sopos to be 6 ft 6 and a huge bulky tough looking man with a booming voice. This guy just doesn't work for me. I just don't see him ever being a huge mighty worrior that smashed the shit out of Raegar T

  • @spartan1879

well that's the point dude. Robert is no longer the man he was. that's the point of his character. I thought mark addy was one of the BEST castings of the show

  • Wish they had found somebody to be a young Robert. That way we could watch him smash the Targaryens.

  • As good an actor as Mark Addy is, I think they should have cast Brian Blessed to play Robert.

  • @mrlukeytron Maybe if the books/show had existed thirty years ago: Brian is 74 years old!

  • @DarkeningSkies1 Ah, put a bit of Just for Men in his beard, and I bet he would look just the same as when he was in Blackadder. lol

  • @mrlukeytron I love Blessed, too. Maybe Robert really did wear his ass out an additonal thirty years worth with the booze! Besides, it would make up for the fact that Brian took place in the cinematic abortion that was Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, even if it was as a fat cartoon frog that liked to spit a lot.

  • @mrlukeytron Well, Robert did wear his ass out with the booze- why not an additional thirty years worth? Besides, it would make up for Lucas turning him into a fat cartoon frog that spits a lot in the cinematic abortion that was Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. A little, anyway. Is there any King Sized part that B.B. wouldn't rock? Nahhhhhh.

  • @LilWayneMetalGod go kill yourself son...please dont dissapoint your parents anymore

  • @LilWayneMetalGod I seem to be quite good at making people's days... By the way, after visiting your channel I realised how much of a giant troll you are, and in the absolute best way possible. People take everything far too seriously.

  • @LilWayneMetalGod This is what happens when you give mental patients computers...

  • All that shopping at Tesco's will lead to a body like that

  • @LilWayneMetalGod I don't think I can keep count of how many things were wrong in that sentence... And that's not including the grammar.

  • I KNEW I recognized this guy. It's freaking Bill Miller!

  • I think I'm going to miss his laugh a lot in the rest of the series...

  • @LilWayneMetalGod

go back to reading twilight ya twat, game of thrones is too good for you

  • @LilWayneMetalGod he is the fucking king of fucking westeros... why should he do anything else ?

if i had the choice between a sparkling gay vampire and being a fatass awesome king getting bj`ed by every women in the kingdom, believe me, it wouldnt be gaylight...

  • Just realised it was Mark Addy that played him :L It's only because I keep seeing the Tesco adverts and watching Thin Blue Line that it hit me. Great actor (Y)

  • Love this actor and love the character. The king was a good enough man, but oblivious to the degree of scheming around him. Yes, he suspected things but he didn't suspect enough.....

  • Start the damn joust before I PISS meself.

  • Jolly fat guy but terrible king.

Whoring, drinking no wonder Cersei got him killed :P

  • *POW!!!!*

cerei:I shall wear it with honor

Baratheon:you shall wear it in silence or I shall honor you again

  • wheres the war hammer? :)

  • favorite line: THE WHORE IS PREGNANT!!!!

  • "BOW DOWN YA SHITS"...........

  • Hard to believe this fellow is the guy from "Still Standing". What an excellent actor!

  • Hair of black.

    Hair of black.

    Hair of black.

    Hair of blonde.

    cough OWNED! /cough

  • I was surprised how excellent he portrayed this character.

  • Fucking Fred Flintstone.

  • i fell so sorry that he dies

  • I am so SAD too see that ROBERT (KING BARATHEON) died in the later STORY. I liked him the best of all the kings & wannabe kings also> LOL???

  • He portrayed him perfectly imo.

  • 0:25 Is that the new fashion for beards, God i only just got one like his!

  • King Baratheon has become my fav. because I think he's funny. "Seven hells!", "Start the damn Jouust before I piss meself!" lol. Also I think the guy that play him is an awesome actor. :>

  • 0:17....that's how you pronounce Baratheon? Eh?

  • The death of Ned's sister still stains his soul and he drowns his pain and sorrow in cheap booze and women... I'm assuming at some point it will be his downfall...

  • I love his pig laughter. Epic xD

  • Mark is amazing as Robert. Better than the books, even.

  • @Ybrethar its also wonderful to see that Mark is also a fan of the series. Theres a video of him, Sean and Harry Lloyd (who plays Viserys) talking about them, with Sean admitting that he havnet heard about the books before but became a fan as well. (Harry is not a fan. He is a NERD to the books :D) And its just so lovely to see that they really care about the characters (or they just do an amazing job)

  • I remember Mark from Still Standing

  • Ned: "Your Grace..."

    Robert: "You got fat!"

    EPIC WIN!!!

  • @teshanovic1 "Geeet on with it before i piss mi'self"

  • I hope there are flashbacks in the first few episodes, showing Robert smashing Rhaegar, etc. Gives a fuller picture of the characters.

  • @MadPutz That would be grand, wouldn't it? I call Alexander Skarsgård to play Rhaegar.

  • @joffeloff I always imagined Rhaegar to look like Skarsgård! Apparently HBO said to Harry Lloyd that there would be no flashbacks or dreams, but we got Bran's dreams in a recent episode so there might be a chance. Although I'm not sure he would be able to master the accent...

  • @MolinMUSE He's swedish, yet he has managed perfectly acceptable American accents in True Blood and *especially* Generation Kill. If he can do that, surely he can do a British one. He'll hardly do worse than Coster-Waldau (danish) in any case.

  • @joffeloff (Sorry for the late reply.) Yeah, I know his American accent is decent but he's lived in America for quite a while, and an American accent is waaay easier to imitate than a British one. I'm probably just underestimating him. If the opportunity arises, I hope he goes for the part :)

  • @MadPutz I saw on the Wiki that they will show the Mad King in flashbacks so i figure that you will see Robert doing some "Smashing".

  • @MadPutz Probably not, cause the series seems to be holding very close to the books, and there are no flashbacks in the books.

  • @MadPutz tht is a very good idea....they could do a few cause book two is a build up for the third one really..

  • @MadPutz Is it me or does the background and hair look like they were filming that exact scene XD

  • The Characters help me imagine them a little bit better, when reading the books ;) Thanks for this

  • Winter is coming.... the dragons are coming... heads will roll... I'm so excited.. Final books comes out this summer!

  • Robert is one of my favorite characters in Game. I love that he's this great warrior like Hercules or Achilles who was meant for soldiering and not kinging and that it's kind of tragic he got the throne.

  • Can't wait to see this series and read the book!

  • You know, in the interview his beard isn't fully grown. There's a chance that's unfinished make up, but I wonder if they filmed the battle on the trident and him killing Rhegar. He look younger.

  • @apocolypsereigns Looks like the interview was conducted by a river too, coincidence?
