  • nice camera

  • It's Funny When He say's 16:28 why people would be interested etc.. I Sound's Like

He is Saying Why White People Would Be Interseted etcc...

  • which is better? d5000 or d3100?

  • Hello Jason, What's your rating on this DSLR? i wanna get one if it's 7 and above

  • @3553 I don't do numerical ratings. I can only suggest you watch my review video - this was the unboxing - and decide for yourself. :-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Thanks for the fast reply:D appreciate it. and i think i'm getting the D5100.

  • So it uses the lithium batteries and then a battery pack?

I've not used a DSLR before, and i'm used to using digital camera's with one square battery.

  • @Jodii3xox The tiny coin battery is just for the camera keeping track of the time, etc. Every device with a real time clock has something like that.

    - Jason

  • Okay so i'm getting either this one or the D3000. Which one should I get? I need help!

  • @kmusicxx , Nikon D5000, i got Nikon D3100, and a Nikon D200, if i were you, i bought nikon d3100 :) very nice, for beginners, i like it better than nikon d200 :)

  • I'm sorry, but how much is the lowest price with the lense+camera in the US?

  • awesome video...keep up the good work...love the way you talk...:)

  • @SwiftRocker02 It's the rubber eyepiece.

    - Jason

  • this or the t3?

  • why do i have to see a commercial to watch a commercial?? why can't i fast forward this ?

  • It's...so beautiful. :o /:D:D

  • Is it better than the D3100?

  • does it do video?

  • @pmoguyperson Yes, it records 720p video.

    - Jason

  • @pmoguyperson did you watch the video?

  • which one to go for as there are many to choose from. I am looking for great video e.g. bikes and sports, action pictures, landscapes and value for money, my limit is £600, what about the a33 or is it worth upgrading to the a55 or canon's 500d or upgrade to 550d or even the nikon 3100 or d5000

  • I like your video, Check out my review channel! Thanks!

  • what lens is that??

  • @dtc2125 The Nikkor 35mm DX f/1.8 lens.

    - Jason

  • Should I get a D5000 or a D3100? I really don't care about video either. Just features and Image quality. Please help me decide.

  • @YeaahASDFGHJKL If you need to buy today, the D5000. If you can wait for a bit, the D5000 is due for an upgrade any time now...so I'd wait for that.

    - Jason

  • @YeaahASDFGHJKL how mutch is this cost?? asap

  • @shoiabrigana The buy link is in the video description.

    - Jason

  • Nice review !!!!

  • 02.50 what is that ?

  • @ershad85 I think that's the rubber eyepiece. Can't be sure though. :-)

    - Jason

  • Nice review, very informative. Thank you.

  • I WANT THISSSS

  • wish the d7000 had the same screen :( :)

  • great video!

  • :P thtzz like the worst camera........

  • sorry man i didn't watch until you explained about your child before commenting i retracted my previous statement and your videos are great man keep on posting

P.S out of context it was kinda hilarious

  • @jaefn No worries, I get the fact that it would come across as being kind of creepy for a non-parent to say. ;-)

    - Jason

  • Comment removed

  • @jaefn I take it you're not a parent? Taking photos of your baby/toddler when they're sleeping isn't exactly unheard of you know, especially since that's the only time they're not moving. :-)

    - Jason

  • Hey im looking for a little bit of advise from anyone willing to lend me a hand...i am looking at buying my first dslr within the next month (but have had a little experience with them in the past) and have been searching for a long time for one that i think i am interested in...i have narrowed it down to 2 and was wondering if you could help me decide between the Nikon D5000 or the Nikon D3100?? any help is greatly appreciated :-) thanks

  • @7showler7 I could help you but first tell me your needs. I always suggest to spend money on a great lens first. A lot of times people buy expensive bodies but don't invest in good lens and then the pictures look average. It's always a good idea to get f/2.8 or better so it performs well in low light and gives you nice bokeh (Depth of field) If you do go with D3100, the money you save can be spent on a good lens. Get a nice prime lens. Tell me more about your needs. I'll help you.

  • @Jason

    Apols for the late response.

This is great advice about shooting in colour then converting into b&w/sepia. That makes perfect sense, and I never even thought of that before...doh !! lol

    Cheers man :)

    Mel

  • sooooooo newwww and sooooooooo shineyyyyyyyyy *V*

  • it's not NAYCON it's NEEKON sir.

  • @sirraplease Yeah, I know, but no one around here says it that way, so I fall back to saying "Niiikon" instead of "Neeekon". Speaking of words, you should look up "pedantic". :-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia I'm not sure naycorn will be too happy abooooot you calling there cameras that.

  • I LIKE NIKON BETTER THAN CANON...

  • Nikon all the way. Canon overprizes their shit.

  • Had this camera but i broke it ^^ but will buy a new 1 in time 4 xmas :D

  • 12 people who have disliked this video like canon

  • @punkstreetpunk Haha, yeah, probably. ;-)

    - Jason

  • hi there , im new in DSLR camera , and this will be my first DSLR (hopefully) , and i have no plan of buying Lenses, so can the kit lens deliver?

  • @ant1mag3 I really doubt that's going to be the case - I'm sure you'll eventually want to buy a different lens - but the camera of course will deliver perfectly good pictures with the kit lens.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia i have done a lot of research about DSLR camera but i was torn between d3100 and d5000 , which one is the best in terms of video and image quality?

  • @ant1mag3 For video quality, the D3100 offers 1080p, while the D5000 is limited to 720p. In terms of sheer image quality, I'd say they're similar.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia thank you sir , maybe ill test the item personally

  • @ant1mag3 about image quallity i would go with the d5000 it has the same sensor of the d90, which is kinda enthusiast-medium level dslr.

  • @ant1mag3 The lens supplied is good. But optical zoom is not really applicable. Basically you can't zoom that far without losing image quality.

  • P fail haha. nice review

  • Hi Jason,I'm thinking to buy one DSLR and i'm a beginner. Do you have any suggestion in which camera is suitable for me? I was thinking to buy this D5000 though. But still needs some suggestions. Thanks.

  • @rexgear1 The D5000 would be a good choice; also look at the D3100. And if you want to check out Canon, they have some nice beginner DSLRs as well.

    - Jason

  • does the images shrinks a little when your choosing an image on playback?? reply pls. thanks!

  • @coldsummernights24 I don't understand what you're asking - the image doesn't shrink...at least, not the original file. It's zoomed out, yes, so it fits on the screen.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia i think thats what i meant. thanks!

  • nikon d3100 or nikon d5000?

  • @querty28 It's your money, you decide how you want to spend it. :-)

    - Jason

  • can i plug a shotgun mic in

  • @breakandstuff Nope, not that I'm aware of.

    - Jason

  • got it today

    so haaaappy :)

  • @Wrigglykim Enjoy it, it's a nice camera. :-)

    - Jason

  • Can you tell me if one if the scene settings include black & white setting and sepia setting ?

    Thanks

  • @melallmark I think so; I don't have the camera any more, so I can't check for you. But you should never, ever shoot in those modes: shoot in colour and convert it afterwards. The reason why is that you can go from colour to B&W, but you can't go back if you ever wished the image was in colour..

    - Jason

  • I really wanna buy a d5000. Im waiting to save for it and buy one. i think d90 it a little bulky...

  • HOw much is a Nikon D90 cost ?

  • @DaFailSnoopy Why don't you ask your closest search engine? I'm quite sure you'll find the result...

    - Jason

  • Im looking for a professional camera but i dont know much about cameras so wanted to know if you know any good cameras for beginners.

im looking for one that does really clear photos

and does videos. so can you help me out

  • @thugcandy94 Take a look at the Nikon D3100 - it's a good place to start for beginners. Or, for not much more money, you should be able to find a Nikon D90 - also a good camera.

    - Jason

  • which is better this or d3100 in terms of ergonomics

  • @pogi09282805724 They're both very similar in terms of feel - they both have the small body size of the D60, etc. The "feel" of a camera is a very personal thing though; I'd encourage you to go to a camera store and check them both out in person.

    - Jason

  • i'm getting mine today:D

  • 1000 ISNT TO EXSPENSIVE!

  • i wan one!

  • Even just looking at the box you can tell it will be good :D

  • I have this camera and it rocks!!

  • i have one ! i stole it from my friend :D

  • Excellent Video, Thanks.

  • Wait, so how rich are you? You own the d300, d60 LIKE DAYUM! I prefer Nikon over Canon any day :D

  • @punkstreetpunk I'm not rich, but I'm a professional geek for a living, so this is part of what I do...I review/buy products regularly to stay on top of the game.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Hahaha, we are all geeks who have viewed this video, still cant buy it X-)

how do you like the nikon d3x? Fuck I want one

  • @punkstreetpunk Come on man, no need to drop the F-bomb in polite conversation. :-) I've never used a D3x before...

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Sorry, I forgot you were a company rather than a single person.

  • WTF is nikon and the model numbers? I can't tell what model is an upgrade of the previous model!

  • @Lousypenguin It's not that confusing. :-)

Four digit numbers = consumer grade products

Three digit numbers = prosumer/low-end professional products

One digit numbers = high-end professional products

There was no previous version of the D5000, but for instance the D3100 replaces the D3000, etc.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Aaah right! Jesus I never would of thought of that, Lol! But the d40 is only 2 digits yet it's a consumer camera yet the d80 (2 digits) is a semi- pro??? Sorry in advance!

  • @Lousypenguin Sorry, I should have explained that the new naming structure is for the newer cameras - basically since the introduction of the D3000, D5000, etc. You'll see the D7000 announced soon, and it's the top of the consumer-level products. It replaces the D90. The older models will get phased out, and eventually this will all make sense. ;-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Awww right. So for example the d5000 is a semi-pro camera while the d3x is a fully pro camera!

  • @Lousypenguin No, the D5000 is consumer grade. The D300s is semi-pro. The D700, having a higher model number, is semi-pro/pro...the D3x is hella-pro. ;-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia

D3000 and D3100 are Entry Level

D5000 and D90 are Middle Level Cameras

    D7000, D300s and D700 are Semi-Pro Cameras

    D3x is Pro Camera

BTW, the D5000 uses the same sensor as the D90 and the D300/D300s except the D300 and D300s have bulk optimisations and all the other good stuff.

All other discontinued cameras aren't included in my list.

  • @imatux The reality is that newer Nikon cameras typically blow apart neat structures like this; the D7000 makes the D300s look inferior in several ways, but it's clearly priced at a prosumer level and is in fact the replacement for the D90, which will be discontinued in the spring. The D3100 leapfrogs the D5000 in a few key ways, namely the video functionality. This is all just blah blah. I know very PRO wedding photographers that charge $30K for weddings and shoot with the D700.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia

Yes it's all marketing BS isn't it now these days :p btw, I'm Jason too :D .

I still wouldn't go Nikon for video... Canon 7D kills every Nikon when it comes to video.

    - Jason :p

  • @imatux You think the Canon 7D kills the D7000 when it comes to video? Why? I've heard that the 7D has more flexible frame rate options...any other reasons? Canon certainly has more experience with video, but the D7000 brings continual auto-focus to the table, which is certainly a handy video feature to have in many circumstances. :-) Let's not forget that the D7000 is about 1/3rd less than the 7D. Nikon hasn't released their 7D killer yet... ;-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia

Yes I do believe so, the continuous auto-focus may be handy but I know most film makers would much love to control their focus manually. It is a good point the D7k is 1/3rd less but until Nikon releases a 7D killer, the 7D will still stand with a more control in what you can do in video also it can record 1080p @ 24p, 25p and 30p which just is easier on editing and releasing to different countries.

  • @imatux Yeah, the pros using DSLRs with focus rigs and external displays, etc. wouldn't care about auto-focus I guess. There are some crazy DSLR video rigs out there! No doubt that until Nikon releases the successor to the D300s and/or the D700, the 7D and 5D Mark II will remain the DSLRs of choice for video pros. But if you look at the killer technology Nikon can deliver in a $1200 D7000 body, their next camera (in the $1800 to $2K range) should be AMAZING. :-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia

It would be quite amazing! camera upgrade here we come :D (using a Nikon D5000 with Kit 18-55 and Kit 50-200 also with Ownuser BH-N5000 Grip and Nissin Di622 Speedlight)

BTW I was just on a BTS photoshoot and the crew were using insane 7D rigs. They had stabalising mounts and rails.

  • @imatux I'm still rocking my D300 from January of 2007, but I've been investing in lenses: I have the 24-70 f2.8 and the 70-200 f2.8...each cost me more than the D300 did. Crazy! But good glass is good glass, while camera bodies come and go. I've set aside some money for the D300 upgrade, whatever it's called. :-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia

Good glass is good glass, though the new Nikkore AF-S kit lenses perfom quite well being kit lenses.

  • Four thirds are awesome.

  • dis is was awesome video !!!!!!! yes i will do take dis cam!!!!!!!!! u knw u make people explain things properly dudeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!!!! thnx 4 dis vid!! thnxxx !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great review!

  • Confused a little bit about Nikon line of product.

Can you tell which one will be the replacement for D90. Has it been announced yet.

    Thanks

  • @Cramermadmoney No, the replacement for the D90 - which is rumoured to be called the D7000 - hasn't been announced yet. Indications are that it will be announced very soon though...(a matter of weeks).

    - Jason

  • how open the fllash light ?

  • @drrottengrab It will come open automatically if you need it, but you can also press the button to the right of the flash.

    - Jason

  • Hey, do you recommend this camera for a beginner? (Like me)

  • @AllHopeIsGoneNow Yes, it's a good beginner camera - but you should also look at the Nikon D3100.

    - Jason

  • @AllHopeIsGoneNow The Nikon D90 its a good camera :) But the lenses are important too :)

  • Comment removed

  • Would you recommend this camera or the new D3100?

  • @Carots420 The D3100 is better in nearly every way - I'd go for that one.

    - Jason

  • the only thing that sucks about this camera is it only takes 5 min HD video i don't know what nikon was thinking

  • uhm, does it come with a lens or do you have to buy it separate?

  • @asianxxlovee You can buy the body only, or a body + lens.

    - Jason

  • Does it come with an SD card?

  • @BayAreaGamers No, it does not. Camera makers stopped doing that a few years ago, because the tiny cards they gave you were useless, so why bother?

    - Jason

  • Dude. You seriously have Steve Carell's voice... How awesome is that.

  • @ResultzMayVary Haha, that's pretty funny that you think that - I don't hear it at all, but if you say so... ;-)

    - Jason

  • dose the d5000 have DOF preview and can you change the metering type with your eye to the viewfinder?

  • @Pugyxandrew Do you mean a DOF preview button? No, it doesn't have that. You'll see the DOF preview when you lock in your focus, but I think you're asking about the button. As for changing the metering type, no, you can't change it with your eye to the viewfinder. You're looking for a different calibre of camera; you want something with a second command wheel. Look for the D90 replacement coming next month from Nikon.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Ok thank you :)

  • Menos charla y más acción

  • Are you sure about the 20 mins. maximum HD recording time? I've heard some say it's restricted to 5 mins. to protect the camera from overheating.

  • @gunnerkylling I did some research, and it's 5 minutes for HD video, and 20 minutes for SD video.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Ok thanks I thought so. Nice review btw.

  • i just got my D3000! :D

  • do sigma lenses also fit on that camera?because i could get suck a lense really cheap..a 18-200mm..

  • @HJeremy123 If it's a Sigma lens that uses the Nikon F-mount, yes. You can get Nikon-compatible lenses from Tamron, Tokina, and several other brands.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia thanks a lot!

  • really good video! thanks :) i'm hoping to get this camera very soon. it will be my first dslr, or slr for that matter as i am wanting to start getting to more indepth photography than what a point and shoot camera can offer. thank you for the video :)

  • have u dont ur review

  • @willkill7533 If your question is "Have you done your review?", the answer is yes, I have. Please check my channel.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia o srry i thought i pressed cancel i watched it love ur videos going to subscribe

  • What are the best lens for this camera, what would you recommend, because i'm actually trying to become a director, but I'm only 17, but someone told me to start practicing....so yeah, i need some help.

  • @imdaprince2 "Best" varies completely based on what you're trying to do...but the 35mm f/1.7 prime lens would be a good start - it's fast, gives you great depth of field, and is fairly sharp. It would be a good place to start.

    - Jason

  • Anyone know if older AI lenses fit on these little digital camera's?

  • @biped9 I had the exact same problem as you for weeks and this will help. Go to Snapsort.com and compare the two

In terms of image quality they are on the same level

In terms of functions the Kx wins hands down

    HDR,filters etc.

If brand is your concern then the choice is yours the Nikon will have a greater amount of lenses available

The Pentax is at low price, small size, good functions and it's better carrying around a camera that everyone doesn't have.

    Hope this helps.

  • Pentax K-X! I just bought one and it's soo cool coming from my canon g11

  • Does the D5000 have a metal body, or is it ALL plastic like the rebel series? I cannot decide between this and the Pentax k-x. Video is also important for me. ARRR, I can't decide.

  • @biped19 No, it's a plastic body.

    - Jason

  • Man I love your accent

  • @hjstuckey You think I have an accent? Hehe. That's funny - I think I sound like an accent-free North American...but I guess what sounds "normal" to me isn't to you.

    - Jason

  • I'm trying to decide between this and the Canon T2i. 12 MP vs. 18 MP, $650 vs. $900.

  • @hitherefrompaul At that price point, you should be comparing the Nikon D90 to the T2i. $250 is a huge price difference between two cameras.

    - Jason

  • I am deciding between this and a Canon T1i, $650 vs $700. I'm having trouble deciding between the two. The 15MP of the Canon is very appealing along with the 3in higher resolution screen compared to the 2.7 screen (i don't need the swivel anyways.) However from what i've seen the D5000 is better with noise at higher iso, and a more sophisticated 11 point autofocus system. What do you think? Do the extra megapixels of the canon significant? How's the screen of the D5000?

  • @VxTran008 I haven't tried a Canon T1i, so I can't give you much input. I will say that the difference between 12mp and 15mp is negligible - as in, ignore it. 3" vs 2.7"? Doesn't matter much. I have no complaints about the screen on the D500. It's not quite as nice as my D300 screen, but the D300 is a much more expensive camera. Can you go see each camera in a store? Getting hands-on time is by far the most important thing.

    - Jason

  • @VxTran008 at above iso 200 the Nikon has a better picture with less noise. the Nikon is a lot better overall. also the Nikon sensor just seems more refined and mature with better results compared to the canon

i would go with the Nikon

  • Very helpful. Thank you.

  • I really want this camera, I was originally looking at the D3000 because a friend of mine owns one but I find that it's to simple in it's feature set. the D5000 offers a bit more of a selection I also really love the swivel screen.

  • does the memory card come inside the packaging?

  • @cutay311 No, you'll need to buy your own. I suggest a 16 GB Class 6 card.

    - Jason

  • DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE PENTAX K-X. Just saying. A lot of people overlook Pentax.

  • If you're looking to buy a dslr, then please check out the Samsung NX10. SAMSUNG NX10!!!!!

  • @stayfit01 Zero problems with it since buying it 9 months ago. I don't know what you mean about it "turning off". If you mean the screen blanking, that's a power-saving function and not an error.

    - Jason

  • Guys, please, can anyone with enough experience or anyone pro in this field answer this question that I really need to know: Which camera brand in general do you think is the best, Sony, Nikkon, Canon, Fujitsu, or what??? I know you might be saying that depends on which camera we're trying to compare, but I'm talking in general. Because each brand has it's specific general trends and attributes. I really need to know guys what do you think, and this can be a discussion among pros who comment.

  • @VideoDocR Since it seems like you don't want to do any research yourself, and are simply looking for someone to tell you what to buy, go get a Nikon DSLR. :-)

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Thanks for answering. But seriously I wasn't trying to avoid doing research about that matter, as actually I am doing that. But, I just wanted a general rule about camera brands from an expertise in the field. Thanks.

  • @VideoDocR But you have to realize that there are 100's of different reasons why someone might want to buy a DSLR, and many different types of scenarios, and without any context, the question of "What should I buy?" is completely impossible to answer. You know what you're looking for, so do the research, read/watch the reviews, and pick what will work best for you.

    - Jason

  • @ThoughtsMedia Thanks Jason, I agree. I will try to let you know what I decide on at the end. Take care,

    VideoDoc.

  • Awesome video. Just what I was looking for. Thanks man!

  • Nice camera, i love taking pictures but im not that into it to use something like a nikon d5000, i use a nice portable kodak easyshare md41, also keep up the good videos, thumbs up.

  • is it true that this camera has alot of shutter problems, a lady told me it had problems with the shutter speed, it freezes and yeah
