I cannot wait until the DEPTHX team gets their robot to Europa. I don't care if life hasn't evolved past the simplest of bacteria there, I will be so incredibly thrilled.
Also when he says strong possibility, what our our guesses as to how strong that is?
@agentdarkboote whenever they say strong possibility pretty sure its the same as saying its a possibility but more likely than other possibilities they've thought of
i.e. they don't really know and cant say how strong it is with any certainty
People always seem that the firt piece of life we see will be some super intelligent sentient being. Seeing this, I don't really think so. I think we're more likely to find bacteria, or if there is such a sentient life form, I'd imagine it to be more of a rodent like creature, sculking aorund the surface. Life always starts off as something small after all, right?
how fucking brilliant would it be if there did turn out to be life on europa. even if it was only bactera, it would still prove that life could exist places other than earth.
@iamafish400 it bathed in radiation & charged particles from the solar wind, which jupiter's magnetic field redirects into certain places...to include the orbits of io, europa, and ganymede. the only hope is that the hydrogen in the icy surface is enough to block the radiation, at least enough of it to allow life to exist underneath. i agree though, it would be fucking brilliant =)
