More or less a total departure from the Silverliners of old; MF cars on steroids...they just do not look right out on the regional rail network...it's gonna take a long time before I appreciate them..
@nyshortline its very unlikely. The push-pulls are a bit like Septa's own Premium Express service. Plus there is nowhere Septa can sell them off to and they are too new for scrap. It would be in Septa's best interests to keep running on highspeed peak trains like they do now.
@56yuoi SEPTA doesn't like the push/pulls because they can only run during rush hours and are less flexible than MU's. Plus at least one set a day breaks down. The Meatballs have yet to go through a major refurbishment like Amtrak's and MARC's AEM-7's have had. Plus the AEM-7's are not really built for stopping at stations that are sometimes less than a mile apart, which is why they only confine them to rush hours.
@Acela150Kid well actually Septa is odd for not fitting their EMU's with bells. NJTransit puts bells on all its units EMU's alike and I also think Metro North has all of its vehicles fitted with bells but I'm not entirely sure.
@xdaftpunkedx Last I checked NJT, LIRR, and MN do not fit their MU's with bells but their cab car DO have them. However South Shore and Metra Electric out of Chicago both have bells on all their MU's albeit some are electronic bells.
@boberttrain831 me too. The Silverliner II's are my favorite in the fleet. They have so much elegance and class. I wish I could've seen them when they were young now they are like grumpy old men that want to retire.
@xdaftpunkedx The II's are my favorite too. They are cool looking with class as you said and they usually have pretty cool horns and very friendly engineers. Now it looks like they will soon become rare :(. I've never seen a III in person before, but they looked good too. The IV's are....ok I guess, but the get pretty boring after a while because that's all you ever see and the NJT Arrow MU III's look very similar and I see them all the time.

@xdaftpunkedx If they do scrap the push pulls, they could give the AEM-7s to Amtrak.

@nyshortline come to think of it after Railfanning NJT i realize how much pushpull i saw would probably made me think that everything had a bell.
