I love how people think he won the Derby and Preakness because of the anabolic steroid. He won the Haskell and this one without it, this one against older horses. In the Belmont he had a quarter crack and a thrown shoe. But of course horses win with those all the time so of course it had to be because he didn't have the shot. Not like he ever won without the shot...oh wait, yes he did.
I don't hate Brown. In fact, I'd like to have him in my barn. But two things: 1) his people hold him back. By not riding him right, by putting him in races like this - he doesn't have the chance to show his talent against anything good. 2) He has sprint pedigree. He should be a turf sprinter. He tires out too fast for this kind of thing lately. He should turf sprint in the BC and that's more what he's meant for.
i have been watching horse racing now 34 years i love everything about it. i have had my favorites over the years forego was my all-time favorite. he didnt do well as a three year old but as he got older he got better,he had heart. although big brown is only three i have seen heart already. what many said was a bad race in the haskell i saw as a horse who didnt give up.the monmouth showed that he had heart and didnt want to give up the lead. i also think when and if these two
the challengers ran out of track. bb is far more impressive on dirt at least he has won G1s on dirt. no G1 horses faced him here, these are consistently struggling G2 & G3 horses who have been trying for a while. if this was curlin winning like that i would be terrified. curlin beats G1 horses every time he runs. and he runs the top races. when curlin challenged older horses for the first time he beat the top older horse in the country in the G1 JCGC.
the final time of 147:2 is pretty good for any horse on any track, and a second faster than BB ran on the turf in the Haskell. So far better on dirt? Not of these 2 races, this one was a bit more impressive coming against far better horses who considering the tim ran like G1's in this race.
For those of you who are truly curious and/or care about this fine horse, Big Brown's dosing on lasix (furosemide) is being very carefully monitored and controlled now, something that did not happen at the Belmont.
0.5-1.0 mg/lb 2x/day was too much too close the race, and Dutrow wasn't sharp enough to monitor it himself.
Don't expect to find this tidbit on ESPN, CNN, etc., though.
wat? where do you work, where did you here that? im a barrel racer all keep thinking about every race is that something is wrong and they dont know wat it is. so he turned into a bleeder huh? that sucks, but it didnt show until the belmont, the heat got to him?
he definitely like the turf better he looked alot more comfortable here than he did in his last two starts. he dug down but he was struggling in the travers.
just a bad race? yes secretariat lost a few but not dead last! once was his maiden he drew the worst post in the field and rallied for third, then the hopful was a close one, and the one after the belmont he had abcess where the bridle went, any way you look at it you cannot compare the two.
Big Brown only got dead last because Kent pulled him up. BB wouldn't have come last if he had been allowed to keep going. But your right, the two can't be compared since Secretariat is light years greater than BB.
yeah sure . . think wat you like . . there is no comarison between them in my mind. and after i heard he didnt receive his monthly shot of anabolic steroids right before the belmont well that explained everyting. eight belles would of surely won the derby if he wasnt on that stuff. im glad its illegal now.

This was avery easy win for Big Brown. He got a few shoulder taps, and nothing else.

I also think Kent doesn't ride that horse right. Never did. That horse is always fighting him, and he has to whip it WAY too many times.

yeah - it's just too damn bad that doesn't actually run against anything..and then he barely beats the 'has-beens' but, you know..good effort.

I can't help but wish they'd run him as a four year old. I'd love to see what he could do.
YasashiKaze 3 years ago 2
Me too! He could go on to do so much more! I mean Curlin has really gotten a lot of recognition because of his 4 year old campion.
