  • Mesmerizing talent and true wit. Just love the guy.

  • That bathtub story is so amazingly "buuuh?"

I'm sure many of my stories do the same to most people.

  • 12:47 the real deal starts. He's amazing

  • thanks carpethead for posting all these nice videos of my guitar hero

  • does anyone know of a live recording of "itchy"?

  • anyone know what type of pup he is using on his 12 string

  • a sunrise

  • Carpethead,

Thank you for this series. Kottke is a genius. (A small suggestion, on a technical note--in the future, you might want to contrive some means of keeping the wind off your microphone. Then it won't sound like the next county is being carpet-bombed by B52's.) ;) Again, thank you for these clips!

  • @Skeegazer56 carpetHEADbombed?

    Yuk yuk, har har.

    *crickets*

  • What a tremendous series, one of the best ever on YouTube. Thanks! I have seen Leo perhaps eight or ten times over the years, most notably at The Canal Street Tavern in Dayton, Ohio (150~200 seats) and he never ceases to thrill and amaze.

  • Thanx Carpethead1 I have a Kinkade Jumbo 12string cutaway also custom made....and you?

  • I have a Taylor 6 String 810-CE and a RKS Custom Ruby Red Electric Guitar.

  • Is he playing a Taylor 12 string?

  • Yes, that is his own signature Taylor Guitar. I believe it is the LKSM-12

  • Such a shame that an artist of this calibre does not enjoy the same success as mainstream artists he is a one man band play, sing and make it look so easy my favourite song of he's is Whine i thik that is the name of it off the album balance.I am forever jealous of those of you who have seen him live.

  • Thanks for posting all these! Some of the best quality video I've seen on here. I LOVE Leo. Used to go see him every year when he came to the Paramount in Austin. An amazing artist! And his stories crack me up!

  • True genius from top to bottom.

What a guy. I love the way he plays right

through the distractions, screaming kids and all, without a hint of frustration.

    ..a wonderful performer.

  • Reminds me of one of those talented people at an AA meeting...Love Leo. Yeah, right on!

  • Leo was a bright spot in the era of Fing gay disco schtuff...Rock on Fing Leo!

  • Just saw Leo in Kent, Ohio. A packed house of devotees who hummed along, and newcomers who watched and listened in amazement. I so wanted to be able to experience the concert again. So thank you, thank you, thank you, Carpethead.

  • It is a pity that one cannot jump in videos here ...

  • Beautiful! I love those bizarre stories. They are at least as good as his guitar playing and his compositions.

  • He cracks me up. I used to wait for his albums so I could readthe backs. Check Ice Water and My feet are Smiling if you want a laugh. Leo is the greatest!

  • Thank you for posting all these videos.

I first saw Leo Kottke in 1974, in the George Square Theatre in Edinburgh, in an Arts Council sponsored concert. I had never heard of him before that.

He was absolutely spellbinding, and his performance that night inspired me to resume playing fingerpicked acoustic guitar.

He is a true master of the fingerpicked guitar, along with Tommy Emmanuel, Martin Simpson, Doyle Dykes, and Tony McManus.

Thanks again for your work in posting these videos.

  • Thank you so much for posting this concert. Every time that I see Leo perform, I know that I'm in the presence of true genius. His musical talent has provided inspiration to me probably second only to the Beatles over the years.

  • For the last song "Rings", do a search here for "leo kottke rings" to find a wonderful story and performance from someone's camcorder - a 1988 performance with no gray...

  • What song is after Snorkel?

  • June Bug
