But yes i do agree with you, but those two groups had no choice but to acknowledge me for my efforts, and for the most part they didn't know my skin tone, all they saw was what was written on paper, unequivocal, i was a hard worker. But i've heard stories of some black women being up for distinguished positions only to be back-doored after the interview process. So there is only so much one can control in life.

This is so true, and very sad. The trials of a dark skinned girl is too heartbreaking. you are seen as the exception and overlooked. Besides the hurtful comments made by men, we also have the agonizing struggle of figuring out what right colors to wear so we don't look darker, most the time we cant wear makeup cuz it wont show, or making sure the lighting is good in the room when taking a picture so we can actually show. I work with black women and anytime someone is nice to me they tell me she or he likes you b/c your light skinned. I hear this shit all day long. But yes i do agree with you, but those two groups had no choice but to acknowledge me for my efforts, and for the most part they didn't know my skin tone, all they saw was what was written on paper, unequivocal, i was a hard worker. But i've heard stories of some black women being up for distinguished positions only to be back-doored after the interview process. So there is only so much one can control in life.

This is so true, and very sad. The trials of a dark skinned girl is too heartbreaking. you are seen as the exception and overlooked. Besides the hurtful comments made by men, we also have the agonizing struggle of figuring out what right colors to wear so we don't look darker, most the time we cant wear makeup cuz it wont show, or making sure the lighting is good in the room when taking a picture so we can actually show. The internal struggle within ourselves is what makes the situation more sad

I've been to the doctor and the receptionist always argued with me for no reason, one day I was really sick with the flu I almost didn't get seen that day b/c she was dogging me out to the nurses because my ins plan changed which isn't my fault , She went crazy every time she saw me.

unlike YOU, young lady, i worked at getting 60 inner city kids into college (actually 59, because one didnt go); i've helped black men (and black women on public aid) get training and jobs (starting with GEDs); i helped minority businesses get the bonding, loans at fair interest rates and contracts (both public and private).
i've also tutored and mentored black kids on the south side of chicago.
so, my 'little light skinned self' has done PLENTY for black folks.
