Additionally I recall Jesus saying to abide by every "scratch and tiddle" of the Old Testament, or something to that effect depending on your version. So much for that. Even so, doesn't the fact that you're defending the OT just evidence the fact that the OT is now irrelevant, or at least parts of it are?
Also, if it only applies to the OT: Why keep it? It is clearly illegal to do most of that stuff now...

@YourLoveLetter You're right they have been saying that for centuries no argument there. However it was small groups of people spread out here and there while the majority of Christians knew all the prophecies hadn't been fulfilled. Though today it's the majority of Christians know on account of more than 90% of prophecy fulfilled in a very obvious time frame happening within less than 70 years. You're going to see because you are in the generation the Bible speaks of.
