Freaking legend, man! Love this dude. Wearing his full regalia. I want an outfit like that, and I want to hang with Lord British in his spaceship, in our outfits. Sweet!
I love these oldschool fantasy games, like Phantasie!
@tascott59 Apparently the "Lord British" moniker was his friends way of referring to him in College or something like that because of his way to say hello.
I just wish game developers would make games that had "gasp" good story telling and intresting charter development, I am so sick games where I fight hundreds of creatures and I am simply fighting them because they "are there", ultima is one of the first games I played where my actions realy mattered ,In ultima 4 if you acted in a bad manor and stole from someone the people would lose trust in you ,almost all modern games lack true "cause and effect" its just grind to a higher level.
When you simulate worlds like U7. You no longer need to simply make stuff up. Real life behavior is so simple that when the parts for it are in place. It becomes all to easy to comprehend what people may do.
Cause and effect. There is an advantage over another. Take it or not. Hero, neutral or villain. If you steal without consequence you are more likely to continue.
If the object has no value. It may have inherent sentimental value to 1 or more etc.
@bustaphatty Because he's a massive D&D fan? Really he's such a big nerd for these type of things that he inserts himself into his own games under the guise of Lord British (no I'm not joking) and before you ask yes he has an American accent but his actual nationality is British-American .
I'm now reading "The COmplete Ultima" by Shay Adams.
Great book, discusses U1-6 and explains a lot of things.
Ultima 7 is my favourite game in the series, although I still haven't played absolutely all of them. (I've tried 5, 6, 8, 9)
I think one of the positive things in Ultima 7 is that sometimes bad deeds aren't so bad. When you can do bad things and get by with it to an extent it adds realism.
I loved the Ultima series. One of my favorite series of RPG's ever. And being there since practically the beginning of PC gaming (I started in 1987), I've seen a lot. This series will always be treasured by me. I miss the days when PC gaming was a geek's paradise and not a blockbuster hollywood movie. Games now lack the depth of the old days.
Richard Garriot owes the Ultima fans for selling out to EA. After EA took over they ruined everything. I don't understand why these game companies (not ONLY EA) refuse to listen to the demand of the players and create a game based off of that. I guess we will never get to see another game like UO until an ex player or someone with some common sense wins the lottery to create it. And if that happens...remember stay away from EA!
he really didnt have a choice in selling origin systems. Origin TANKED UO unfortunately ran them into the ground during the initial stages til T2A was released. i AGREE whole heartedly that UO was destroyed by EA's intervention and the aplication of the "newb patch" also known as trammel
@NinjaRunningWild rofl go fuck your mother fucking self noob. he owes us all. he's a fucking sellout needle dick wash up bum fuck son of a mother fucking bitch. eat shit. eat my shit.
you have to pay for darkfall, and UO is already crushed... unfortinatly... they should make a new ultima to crush everyone else.. ultima 3d plain ole sucks balls make a new ultima like darkfall graphics but along the lines of ultima!!
9 was not released when ultima collection was released. The last ultima game at that day was ultima online. I do think he commented on ultima 8 in the original, and the person who uploaded might have missed it. (Don't take my word for it, my memory aint that great)
@ 4:05 He says "What happens when the government gets involved and starts legislating morality?" Very good. We in the USA are beginning to see what happens right now... since that is exactly what our government is doing... slowly chipping away, one new policy at a time...
I remember when I was a kid I got Ultima 7 for my birthday. I spent ages just trying to get it to work become of the funky sound thing but when I got it working.... Well, jet's just say that not many games live up to U6s standard.
Ultima is the best and always will be. My favorite of all time was Ultima 5 which had a great story and was a very long and enjoyable game. Ultima 3 was very cool also and very creepy.
I loved all the ultimas but I think Ultima VII was my favorite of all time. The first Ultima I ever played was Ultima II back in like 1985 on an Apple IIE.
Yep Ultima 4 was great. I was so goddamn excited when Ultima 4 first came out. I read the game content manual included about a hundred times. I think a cloth map came with it, I cant remember. And maybe a Rune dictionary or something. Gr... I wish I had it now.
It's funny to watch this video now, because it was actually on an CD-Magazine called 'Interactive Entertainment', which I had a few years before the Ultima Collection came out, and featured it.
Ultima 4 did have a cloth map, and the manual included the runic dictionary. I have no idea where mine is anymore; the only ones I have still are the ones from 7, 7.5, 8, 9, and Ultima Online.
this series shits on Elder Scrolls games.

...Almost forgot:
After the WHORE "EA" hood-winked RG they completely removed all aspects concerning the soul of Ultima!
EA is real good at manipulation, they have removed the talent of so-many good game creators.
RG was the catalyst that started the whole concept of superbly designed RPG.
The bards tale games were OK but far from Ultima...
RG is a good chap; good mind and immense talent!
