whoops- i just posted the same .... we used to kid that Nasa wouldn't have had their funding cut if they requested funding from congress with this background music.
We have what we think might be the next James Bond song?.. Tell us what you think:) It's playing as the primary song on our new channel - so just click on ManifestEleven (my youtube name) and listen. James Bond?.. Yes?.. No?
This part of the soundtrack is played as Bond, with the help of the captured astronauts, sets off to infiltrate the rocket within Blofeld's volcano complex. He's compromised when he doesn't enter it properly with his portable air conditioning unit and Blofeld's, "Stop that astronaut!" line. I always remember it as it provides an incredible view of Ken Adam's set as Bond travels along the monorail. Very epic!
where is this version from? The one I have is from the original OST release. Mine is slower, shorter and doesn't repeat at 2:10 like this one, but it is titled space march.
Rocket launching pad and heliport deep in a volcano, just cant see today,s CGI guys matching that, or the menacing atmosphere, from John Barry,s ready to launch space march score, i think the best ever put on film.
I used to think that the early Bonds were great because of Connery. But considering that Moonraker, for example,an otherwise awful film, is made very good by Barry's score...
This piece perfectly captures the emptiness, coldness, and haunting mystery of outer space ... a truly brilliant piece -- and a terrifying scene to start the film.
Having actually met the late Mr Barry on a couple of occasions, I have to say that not only has music lost a legendary composer but a very warm, giving and friendly man who will be sadly missed by many, many, many people. May you rest in eternal peace John.
@MMoruzov Ironically enough, that line was delivered by the late Ed Bishop, who would later achieve a certain notoriety as Commander Stryker of SHADO from Gerry Anderson's TV series "UFO."
John Barry and Jerry Goldsmith will be remembered as part on the great classical music of the 20th century. Like Mozart , their music is dismissed as popular or show musi.Like Mozart these score will stand the test of time. PS I leave out John Williams because though he has great creations he continued to lift from the classics.Strauss,Barber.......
That was a piece of cool ass music, when I was a kid,and I saw that scene in the movie,I thought if really cool seeing the bad guys capsule that swallowed the U.S. and Russian space capsules, that music fit it perfectly. I'm a soundtrack nerd when it came to these Bond movies.
I suppose the enemy base in a volcano and the outer-space espionage element makes for somwewhat more spectacular cinematic copy than a politically-embarrassing Japanese suicide garden....
Propellerheads sampled parts of this in their version of "On her majesty's secret service", it can be heard in the middle part and sort of bridges the first and second part of the melody.
One of the finest Bond scores ever. Makes me think of the Cold War and the Space Race. The ethereal score from Moonraker orbit sequence is also great.
Last night's episode was the best in the series so far. But I loved that Reliant Robin episode. Laughed my balls off in fact and this tune was PERFECT for it :D
Probably the Propellerheads melody "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" which is a modernized big beat version of that theme. In that one there's a middle part in which this "Space March" theme is spliced in.
I thought Jenson could have won in Monaco too, but the safety car pretty much saved both Vettel's and Alonso's race. If not for that I am convinced Jenson would have bide his time and overtaken them both at the end of the race, that is if they even managed to stay out on those tires of theirs on full race pace.
It's funny how McLarne have often have great race pace but not won the titles. 2000 and 2005 comes to mind. Montoya did screw up the 2005 constructors' title though
This is just blood colding great music! I remember watching the early Bond films as a kid This sounds like I'd been a kid in the 60s, but I started out watching what Bond did on the silver screen first, when I was about 10 or so, and that was just 6 years ago. This brings back so many great memories for me!
I remember catching this on a & e once while in school. The scene where bond and that asian girl are running from people. I'm like, "man that music is kind of nice."
