one more thing some of you might have noticed that we had power during the storm. That building is a telecommunications building and has on of the best generators on the island.
I think 100mph maybe 110mph, if it was 160 there is no way in hell that building would be there, they didnt get a DIRECT hit, but got extreemly close to the eye wall.
The island is very small and the airport recorded SUSTAINED winds of 150mph, which is one of the strongest sustained wind readings I know of from a hurricane in the Atlantic. I don't know the islands geography, but it's small so I will assume that no part of the island avoided sustained winds of 125mph to 130mph, so gusts to 160mph are not crazy. Buildings on the Cayman islands are much more used to high winds than in the US. But yes, the winds visible in this clip may be only 100mph.

I was there a year after the hurricane and the damage was still pretty bad in some areas. We went to the turtle farm and then to Rum Point

by the way this was the leeward side of the building. Winds were far worse on the other side. I'll post some more soon.
