Hope to be climbing Island Peak in March/April 2012 and I am 62years old! Went up Chukung Ri 5700m and did Annapurna Range 2 years ago. Came across some very nice people and not so nice ones, wanting to know how an overweight old grandma got there. Thank you for the video clip, an eye opener!
Hey, que buen video! Y la musica de U2 bastante inspiradora! What a nice video and amazing music! I want be there. When did you reach this summit? Cual es la mejor epoca para escalar esta montaña? Thanks for posting it! Amazing!
Que buen video! Y la musica bastante inspiradora! Quienes son ustedes? Cuando hicieron este ascenso? Yo quiero hacerlo, seguirles el paso a ustedes muchachos...
I will be traveling to Nepal to climb Island Peak and EBC. I have something in common with all of you who love mountains. There is nothing better then thin air, cold winds, a sharp burning sun....all mixed into one sensation of climbing a mountain. Thanks for your posts and i as well cannot wait to be part of Nepal and the Hymilayas .
Just did this summit in November 2010. What an amazing breathless day! Great video, it takes me right back to the climb. We had more high cloud but and your icewall had seen less traffic, ours had a huge deep track in it. We were climbing at the end of the season which may account for that. there was a gale blowing from the Lhotse side which made the climb up the ridge slower, but who cares? Thanks for sharing this, have shown a few friends who can now really see what its like to climb Imja Tse!
great climb guys, I'm going to Nepal in two months time, just an Everest BC trek, but want to come back next year for a Mera Peak climb. Can't wait !!! :-)
Climbed this in Sept 1996. i will never forget the feeling, the thin atmosphere or the sight of the sun rising over ama dablam in the distance. I don't feel the need to go any higher. Something changed for me up there, i guess it put things in perspective. I felt utterly humbled by the place and the people of Nepal.
Thanks for posting your video Bart, it took my right back and brought a smile to my face.
I climbed Island Peak (it also has a Sherpa name now) over 20 years ago! My Sherpa suddenly claimed he didn't have insurance and quit at base camp. I had to do two day's of climbing in one day. I climbed up to where another pair (a French guy and his Sherpa) were and joined them. The French guy grilled me on on my experience in the German and Suisse Alps. A great experience and still my highest mountain.
Technically not too difficult in good conditions. I remember an ice wall of about 70M.
I would not recommed the FX1, its just way too big, i filmed a doco there in march/april 09 and i can tell you the altitude makes everything double in weight, you want a small HD camera that you can put in your pocket, esspecialy in emergency stituation. FX1 would require stopping a lot to put away and to take out, Also best to use a camera that doesnt use tapes, but memory cards, tapes can freeze and break and cause a shit load of problems.
Bart, thanx for the review of my footage. I see you just did it also. What was the actual date of your ascent? I return to India soon and then will be back in Nepal in March for another season of goofing off and was wondering about snow conditions.
oh this is just sublime. The best footage yet of the climb of island peak. Man how much training did you guys do prior to the climb. How hard did you find it. What was your preparation. I intend on trying it in April.
