I'm calling Bs on Obama. This may alienate people, but anyone who thinks he or any other politican is going to give the people what they want is naive.
"The question is, will the Obama administration follow through...." I seem to remember this question from 4 years ago. Answer, NO. Simple open fact is that he and the DNC are now more in the Wall St pocket than ever. Election-year crapola. As with all other "promises" (Gitmo, public option etc.) he'll find a groveling excuse later for betraying you again. Then walk away with a fat pension, book deals and lick-spittle fake journalists to reminisce on his "achievements." And GOP is only worse.
@cheddyrod Dude, if you find a clip younger than the Occupy movement, than you _might_ have a point, but Occupy changed the entire political discourse! You cannot easily compare rhetoric stated by his pre-Occupy, ex-J.P.MorganChase executive Chief of Staff to rhetoric recited by Pres. Obama _himself_ post-Occupy.
@cheddyrod Oh, and about the 1st clip you sourced there, about NY AG Eric Scnhniderman being kicked out of leading the investigating probe into the financial crisis? WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK OBAMA *JUST* PLACED @ THE HEAD OF THE _NEW_ SPECIAL TASK FORCE BEING DISCUSSED *IN THIS VERY VIDEO*?!?!?! New York Attorney General Eric Schniderman?!?!? *FUCK*, dude! Use your brain! (And not just your lizard-brain, "gut" feelings, either!) I mean, seriously, goddamn, dude, critical thinking! Do it! LOL!
Bullshit, he just wants the job for another 4 years. He told us bold faced lies going in and will continue to do so. As for "exposing" the banks to fraud, they have to actually attempt to prosecute these people 1st.
Everything will get under way & then stop dead after the Nov. election regardless of who wins. If "they haven't even started yet," the chances of us seeing the banksters in jail before the election is zero. O broke promises the first time around & it's Pollyannish for the OCCUPY movement to reelect him based on promises for a 2nd time around. OCCUPY has been hoodwinked again by Obama & he obviously can't be trusted to protect the constitution, liberty or justice. Ron Paul will keep O's promises.
Yeah, Obama preyed upon the hopes of America, who truly wanted change. I'm not buying into any of his bullshit. His new populist stance sure is convenient now that it's election time...
There's no way he's going to put bankster sucm into prison, he seems more like an agent of Wall St than anything else.
I wouldn't be surprised if he attacked Iran, either.
In his first month Obama said that he needed a grass roots movement to make progressive law. Is Occupy that movement - and can he get progressive legislation though a Wall Street occupied Congress - even in an election year? Time will tell. Oh, and we all need too Occupy more stuff in the mean time. :)
Believe it when I see it. Obama's populism is temporary strategy at best. If the economy improves a tick and unemployment drops below that 8% number, he'll gladly drop all that fairness talk and even try to distance himself from it.
Obama's a Republican. He's advanced Republican ideas, pushed for the legilsation of Republican bills and if one could fault the GOP for anything over the last three years, it's been their incompetence at taking credit for getting what they wanted from a Democrat.
Obama is such a fucking tool! Our country has been as civil war (the drug war) for like 40 years and all we have to do to end the civil war is legalize all drugs. Not only will it end the war it will stimulate the economy. He also passed a bill saying he can throw you in jail with out trail or charge.
a VERY SLIGHT possibility that Obama has finally gotten the message. Very slight. I would welcome it if he has. Maybe he will finally stop having DHS coordinate the assault on peaceful protesters too?
Wait...there isn't shit scrolling across the bottom of the screen, and half applicable video clips playing all the time, stock numbers, lottery numbers, ticker feeds on top of ticker feeds...fuck...I guess I have to listen to the actual conversation.
To be honest, far from not keeping his promises during his second term, I think that Obama will start to get with it. Why? Because when you are running for re-election, you need to whore yourself out to the companies to get contributions. Only when another term is taken off the table are you able to go with your true beliefs. And I still think that Obama has some of those lurking inside. Whereas Romney and Gingrich don't have true beliefs - they ARE the problem.
Guess what else is going on right now? Obama is running for re-election. Let's be honest about this. His biggest contributors are Goldman Sachs. That's why Matt is skeptical, and you can clearly tell.
I'll believe it when I see it. If this happens in the next few months great, if not it's just a re-election gimmick to get some of the progressive and liberal voters back that he has lost.
@TheAnthonywc That's good to hear. But Paul will not hold anyone accountable he believes that government should not interfere in the economy at all, so therefore he will not prosecute bank abuses. And he willingly published racist, homophobic, and ant-semitic newsletters in the 90s.
Matt...please don't' get suckered into hopefulness re: our leaders/politicians...your too smart for that...your wearing your heart on your sleeve here.
@caminodelcorazon So Taibbi, who has spent so much time and effort studying and researching the situation, is feeling guardedly optimistic and you , who have done no studying and no researching are advising him?
Obama always delivers soaring rhetoric and behind closed doors behaves like a typical, cynical politician. His speech offered the same bullshit promises he's been making since elected.
@darkknight302 I like Keith a lot, but I think he sort of wants to get paid millions of dollars (which is what he's getting) for not working as hard as he used to. Do you remember that it started with taking off his tie, then metamorphosized into growing a goateee and wearing casual sweaters. If he ever comes back, he's probably gonna ask that he be allowed to host from his bed.
@Rationalific aha i know but i've been watching him for about 4 years and he's hardly ever on. It was always Chris o'donnel hosting in his place on MSNBC most of the time.
I know its a campaign ploy. But if something does get done against these banks it will be a very good moment for punishing those who did wrong. Im not holding my breathe on it since it is campaign season, but how ignorant or corrupt do you have to be to not see that reigning in WS would be a huge binus to your poll numbers?
Personally, fuck the banks that got us into this mess.
he is acting to fool people again..getting more than u expect is nothing since u weren't getting anything in the first place... the banks will get around any laws they always do..they will pay a drop in the bucket compared to what the stole..everyone of these bastards should be in jail for life..it's an election yr.. Obama will become a corporate republican again after the election if the crazy republicans don't get elected
@xadam2dudex "yep why people don't get that is beyond me"
Well it's not beyond me. I think I have a pretty good idea of why it is so. It's because they don't want to get that.
They want desperately to believe that the person that they voted for is one of the "good guys". After all they voted for him, right? Admitting he is wrong and not on your side means admitting you are wrong and have been tricked.
It's part of a larger problem we have in America with coming to terms with our mistakes.
@integral Fact : 1. A thing that is indisputably the case.
2.Information used as evidence or as part of a report or news article.
Point Being if you look at the FACTS obama has barley kept any of his promises. He didn't really pull the troops out of iraq. There is a base the size of the vatican with thousands of troops still stationed there. guantanamo bay is still opened. He signed the NDAA bill taking away all our rights of free speech. Gave Wall street TRILLIONS in bailout. 3 million jobs...
@JG129 well it looks like your 'facts' are just so much bullshit, Obama has come thru on MANY of his campaign promises (despite the best efforts of angry racist obstructionist Repigs) and if you weren't such a moron you discover this easily in 5 minutes on the Google...moron
@oneirishpoet Its not so much a matter of what he passed that he promised, rather than what is the substance of what was passed when he kept it. For instance, he said he wanted to pass healthcare reform. What we have now is a mixed bag. But what if we made it even worse and the bill became a power grab for big pharma and insurance companies even more? Yes, he still kept his promise, but people on healthcare get screwed further.
@biggydx When Medicare was passed it was a shadow of what it is today. Obama got it passed when no other Pres. could. This will get better as time goes on. Obama had to fight with a hostile republican party but now it's law. This will get better over time
@integral lost under him. He was given a bad situation by bush but instead of trying to stabalize it he made it much, much worse. There is a reason why he is given more donations by wall st. than any other candidate. He actually set a record back in 2008 ! Point being you can be a sheep and follow him or open your eyes and see he is another hack. The NDAA bill being signed should be enough for anyone to not want him back. Your ok with US citizens being detained without trail indefinitely ?!?!?!
