For the record I am not anti-European. I think all European countries working together is a good thing. But this is NOT what the EU is about. It is about createing a superstate to with one central government ruling the entire continent. With the range of cultural, economic, political and social religious diversity across Europe this will not work. Laws that work in one country may not work elsewhere, and vice versa. The only way to achieve the EU dream is to force total cultural harmonisation.

@feuerwassergeist The EU is systematically taking away not only our right to govern ourselves, it its taking away our freedom. The EU parliament wants to create a single super-state of Europe so they can rival the USA and China, and they are forcing this through without a thought of how it affects the member states. This has caused Greece and Ireland to become virtually bankrupt and lead to economic recession thoughout all member states. Do you woner why we want out, and hope others will follow?

@feuerwassergeist You are deluded. Only the MEPs are elected. The executive are appointed by the rest of the executive. They are not appointed by any democratic process, and as a voter I have no power to remove them from office. Greece are finding this out the hard way as now the Greek people are to all intents and purposes goverend directly by Brussels who now have the power to overrule the elected Greek government due to the Euro crisis. That is just wrong on so many levels.

@feuerwassergeist The UK is both a country and a union of countries. To see why you need to look back at the history of how the UK was formed and how it was ruled/governed. At first it was ruled by the reigning monarch, and more recently by a democratically elected government. But the UK is NOT a union like the EU. The EU is very different because there is no true democracy and the few remaining democratic processes can be overrulled by unelected burocrats who act like dictators.

I voted UKIP and will do if I'm allowed to vote next time. Lets hope Ron Paul becomes president of the US next year and we in the UK can get another election soon so we can vote UKIP in. Although I'd like to see UKIP brush up on their policies and become more libertarian like they claim to be.

@135yearswaiting We worked hard on Saturday trying to convince the good people of Feltham & Heston to vote for us. This is a great country and it is distressing to see the EU destroy it. My prediction is 20+%, but maybe I am being too ambitious. I fear for the Great British public as well, I hope you are not correct, but part of me thinks you may be. I don't get it! They want a fiscally harmonised EU but Merkel doesn't want Euro-bonds or an ECB bailout (arguably the fastest way to fiscal harmony). The EU wants greater fiscal integration among member states but doesn't want to be a transfer union (like the US) because Germany would always be bailing out the profligate peripherals. Is this thing that they want even achievable? I think not, but then Barosso and Van Rompuy don't think so either - they just want more power - at any cost.

I am very anti-EU, but I sometimes wonder what the real motivation of Russia Today is in constantly agreeing with anti-EU politicians. Do they want to try and split off eastern Europe when the EU goes?

This is why we need NATO, even when we [justly] get rid of the EU.
