Baseball the distance is plate to mound, a pitch is stump to stump is 66ft, in comparison to a baseball mound being 60ft. you'd say a batsman is facing the ball off about anywhere between 60ft to 63ft against a quick.

it doesnt matter how close your grill is to your face your helmet will still move on impact just like when Pietersen lost his helmet when bravo hit him, its always going to move its never going to stop the ball dead in its path, look at some other videos or watch the way it moves on Flyns' head.

@Archangel3583 It's roughly the same distance. You've got to factor in the point at which the batsman is standing on the crease and the bowler letting go of the ball. Baseball the distance is plate to mound, a pitch is stump to stump is 66ft, in comparison to a baseball mound being 60ft. you'd say a batsman is facing the ball off about anywhere between 60ft to 63ft against a quick.

Even though the batter's body isn't a target (unlike in cricket), the fact that the fastest baseball pitch is about 92 MPH, and that the batter doesn't wear anything to cover his face, puts him at risk, too. So the batter stands a bit closer to the pitcher than the batsman is to the bowler, and faces balls of similar speeds.

@Archangel3583 the fastest pitch in baseball isnt 92 mph in fact 92 is about average for most pitchers. when it gets up to 94-95 its considered a faster pitch. some guys throw 96+ consistently for the whole game.

Guys as a cricketer and a baseball player it is harder to hit a baseball. Hitting a baseball is the second highest £per action in sport after scoring a goal... In a whole day of baseball you will only see the bat hit the ball 10 times in converse to maybe 1000 times in cricket... Its incredibl hard to hit a baseball... 100mph swerving all over the place..

Batsmen have to face hundreds of shots and it'd be a pretty boring sport if people barely ever hit the ball.
That said per innings cricket players face potentially hundreds of deliveries compared to a few for baseball, meaning there is a good chance of missing one or two.

People who say its harder to do this, its harder that are missing the point of cricket. The objective in cricket is to protect your stumps not entirely to hit the ball. The balls have to be "hit-able" to entise the bats man to expose his stumps. Hitting the ball is important but often only 2nd objective. That why you get a rush for protecting your stumps while making as much as a 100 runs. You dont care if it's singles, fours or sixes, just protect the stumps.

They make the grills bend so that if a ball hits it at 98mph the ball will hit your face and possibly knock out a tooth. if they made them too rigid they grill would brake and puncture your cheek/eye.

Yea its fittied correctly, they have to have some give in them so that the impact is spread across the helmet. If it was too rigid the grill would probably break. This is why i wear one and saturday league players are bowling at 60-70mph tops

No, the grill has to flex or it would snap, and that could then pierce your eye, face etc. No the gap is normal, it cant be too small or the top of the grill would be in ur eye line whilst looking at the ball.
Yep, some people can bowl good bouncers at that speed. Plus most league cricket pitches are not always th best, so a ball can spit up at you. Plus i play the sweep and slog sweep off quicker bowlers, so id be mad not to wear one.

it doesnt matter how close your grill is to your face your helmet will still move on impact just like when Pietersen lost his helmet when bravo hit him, its always going to move its never going to stop the ball dead in its path, look at some other videos or watch the way it moves on Flyns' head.
