how come everytime i see an aikido demo, a guys always blindly yet gracefully running at the guy with his arm out like a moron? Very unrealistic . Aikido alone will get you hurt really. But it's pretty useful if you combine it with something else like boxing, muay thai. You need something that'll get you use to dirty fighting. I've seen it in a real fight with my friend, it's pretty useful. But again, alone it'll just get you seriously hurt unless the guy's a moron.
Ahahaha, karate is probably the worst case senario, everybody thinks it is dangerous because of the high kicks and stuff like that, but in karate u train with 'marking' strikes, and when u have done a training like that for like.. 4-5 years, this is in your 'spine' so you cannot do it 'powerful' without thinking.
Aikido is more esoteric than practical -- It's not humility that keep the aikido practioners out of the UFC. I train at a fairly high level Aikido instructors school (rent space) and he takes defensive tactics lessons from me, because he knows this stuff only works against drunks. O-sensei was a stud who punched trees in the snow and fought a lot in his youth A small change in training application and sparring intent would up your game by 300%, no risk of injury
jajajaja obviously choreographed. I think if it was as great as you say it is you should not have to put videos like these saying its a karate guy vs aikido
There was a guy at my dojo (shotokan) who was also profficient with Aikido and he was awesome at kumite. I have a lot of respect for Aikido and its practical application.
Aikido is a excellent fighting art! Aikido techniques could EASILY take down a Karate fighter!
Actually Aikido works well against ANY TYPE OF STRIKER! And yes, I have taken Karate! However I realized that Aikido techniques are more practical and effective for fighting!
Ah, but you're forgetting one thing. In these demos the aggressor allows the aikido guy to flip him. But in a real fight against anyone who has any will to win, it won't happen. Heck, even if you do get the in the air they'll just grab you AS you're throwing them. What if he knows BJJ?
actually, i did one of these "combat aikidos" some time back. and well, since i had some karate experience, i was made the kicking partner during one of the randori...
guess what happened? two hard and fast low mawashi-geri felled my partner...
It is really nice & interesting BUT the problem with Aikido is that opponents have to do a lot of randori to help the aikidoka make the movements. I want to see an Aikido master get into the ring against a Brazilian jujitsu practitioner or a boxer or a Thai kicker. I am not saying the techniques are not effective but I have never seen Aikido otherwise than in movies or these demonstrative prearranged videos. If some of you knows about some videos please post the links thanks.
aikido as a combat style defence doesn't work, simple as that, you can pull off some moves, but against professional boxers, you'll be down.
Thing with Randori and the working of aikido is, that when attacked by someone drunk or desperate, or assaulted by a gang, they WILL have that form of attack, they'll launch at you and that is what will cost them dearly
I think that is very interesting. I'd love to see an example though, a real life situation somehow. I can see as a combat sport, it wouldn't hold much effectiveness, but as a self defense martial art I can imagine otherwise.
I'll see if I can get someone to film a demonstration we are going to hold in a few days and then see if I can get permission to put it up here so you can see for yourself... and no, the Randori will NOT be predecided, we have been told to attack the Nage in any way we want and as many as possible at once to get some real intensity and feeling into it all
Try this bullshit against a Kyukushin Karateka...I don't it will turn out for the aikidoka as well as this "demonstration" did...

It's dishonest to say this is Aikido versus Karate because the supposed karateka is wearing an Aikido outfit and it is obviously choreographed.

this is what happens when you stereotype striking arts as pure unbridled aggression and then use an idiot to demonstrate on.
