"This charge is a result of outlandish and inexcusable conduct by a professional baseball player," Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said in a statement.

If convicted, Castillo would face up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

I haven't watched or followed the game for a longtime but to my knowledge they aren't allowed to leave the dugout which is why most of the time when they do they are suspended or fined. Obviously if its a bench clearing one you can't suspend the whole team after all most are only going to try to protect or stop the fight. Also when lots of players its hard to see who actually throws down and who's trying to break it up. Which is why not everyone who leaves the bench/appears to fight gets busted.

why are baseball players allowed to leave the dugout? It should be similiar to basketball where if they leave the bench they are automatically suspended. I understand the only reason people watch nascar and hockey is for the crashes and fights but baseball doesnt need this. Another point: why is it when hockey players or baseball players fight they are considered "tough guys" but when black basketball players fight they are "thugs", just a bit racist.

Admittedly I'm white but most of the time I hear the term thug its because of the special circumstances particularly during a fight. For example a person beating on a old woman or man would likely be called a thug just as a minor league pitcher throwing a fastball even hitting another player would likely be called a thug because of cheapness and cowardness in using a weapon let alone when it hits a fan.

There's no way one could justify throwing a baseball especially a pitcher be it close range or not. I would call a white pitcher doing the same thing a thug among other names again there's just no reason let alone justification to throw a baseball especially as hard as you can see he tried especially when you know it could hit a fan even if it hit your target. Minor league fields tend to be very close to the game. Just common sense.

i don't think you can compare this fight to the fight at the palace...that fight was a couple of hot headed players who went out and beat up some fans, a few of them didn't even do anything other than talk shit, they aren't allowed to leave the dugout btw, 15 players were ejected from the game...they only reversed the ejections because they would of had to play the game with pitchers in the outfield...I think they should have been forced to forfeit but then again it is the minors
