  • Also, 10 to 16 thousands years ago Asians as we know them today could have different appearance. The roots of Mayan language could also be found in Asian languages at that time period. However, I do no think such materials exist, since written language could have appeared later.

  • I think to resurrect Mayan language, such people like this young man should work together with scientists, who deciphers ancient Mayan texts. That way they will be able together to seethe away the Spanish admixture, and reincarnate Mayan language.

  • dude, you are cute! :)

  • First mayan decendent that I hear speaking english like the west indians lol. I'm from Guatemala a neighbor of Belize and it's cool that mayan Is still being taught in other mayan inhabited countries. Even though pure mayans are basically extinct but it's awesome to see the younger generation still being taught their roots.

  • @mrurbina

Me too. Im like OMG a Mayan descent speaking fluent English, then I realized "Oh yeah, Belize was a British colony"

  • @Chichiri520

The english part doesn't suprise me because In Amatitlan,Guatemala you hear them speaking to the euro tourists in german and english but what took me by surprise was the accent because it reminds me of a west-indies accent.lol

  • @mrurbina

Lol, you know that is not surprising. I once read a book documenting the daily lives of these people in the mountains. They speak their respective Mayan languages as well as German. Germans and Jews settled in those areas and speak Mayan languages as well.

  • damn, he's cute!

  • i think itd be cooler if all the hispanics could just relearn their original heritage languages before teh spanish and just forget spanish overall......i mean im part spanish, im proud, and i like the language, but seriously......this culture that hs been for thousands of years is new to me....something wrong with that.

  • he looks asian hahaha

beautiful language! I wish I knew my blood language Nahuatl

  • @Tezcatlipoca0047

All Native Americans came from Asia a million years ago over a land bridge so they have black Asian "Hair" to this day but differnent culture now.

  • No way dude you are 100% wrong my friend no disrespect. I am Aztec and know my roots don't try lecture me.

Many look Asian because afterall we are all HUMAN RACE even some my cousin look African, but Africa never mingled with Aztec.

Also it could be because of intercultural mixing and because many Asian immigrants went to Mexico to escape American discrimination in the 20th Century

  • I can't think of any thing more lamentable then the destruction of a culture. Killing a human being is one thing. When a culture is murdered its like killing every body that came before.Western culture we can be proud that we have done this. What does it mean to be civil if not respect others At best we are, berbers, germanic and huns but most of all Romans. The value in an other culture is the ability of said other culture to view existence with a different eye ( or better yet an other "I")

  • God isn't dios

    God is ajaw

  • @Jg2guate God in Yucatec Maya is "Yuum" which means "Lord" or "father." Is "ajaw" a K'iche word from Guatemala? Also, many people who speak Mayan just say "Dios."

  • I know because I speak kiche very well.

  • Sun= K'in; corn = ixi'im; beans = bu'ul; pumpkin = k'um; chicken = kax; pig = k'eken (but that is Yucatec; he said e'ken); Thanks = Dios botik..... The pronunciation is a little different, but I recognize all the words except "star" which in Yucatec is "ek," but he says "xullab." /// It is fascinating to here something so close to Yucatec. I hope he is able to save his Mopan language and get all the vocabulary.

  • @NP4Mayans hi im saffire dime n u waz woundering how long u knew mayan i mean were u rasied n it ? im mayan but i never grew up learning the culter or any thing

  • @1477532 I've been learning it for a while, but really have only spoken it for about 2 years. I have some friends here in California who speak it to me. They are from Yucatan, Mexico. I am "Anglo," which in the USa means someone who has ancestors from England..... and grew up speaking English.

  • @NP4Mayans thankx um i waz aloso woundering if it waz hard to learn it ? and if u can help me learn more about my culter i would really thankfull

  • nice

  • Almost everyone if not everyone in Belize understands English and a large percentage speak English too because it used to be a British colony. But diferent communities in Belize has their own unique language which include: spanish,Mopan mayan,Ketchi Mayan, Creole(Kriol) Garifuna etc. im glad that he's proud of his language and im proud i can speak Ket'chi too.

  • very nice

  • Mopan Mayan sounds like it is about 90% like Yucatec Mayan, which is spoken in Mexico. His intonation and accent in Mayan is different but still understandable. I wish I could meet this guy and chat in Mayan.

  • Wow, Mayans can speak english in Belize because it's a British commonwealth.

  • Wow what an interesting video. That's so cool that people still speak those languages.
