  • ok fro know, but if you are going to be on location shouldn't the photographs somehow include the landmark/location setting? Otherwise, why not just be anywhere? Your first two or three shot with the wide angle did that and then most of your shots did not.

  • "where do you live? What address?" Ha ha. No really what's your address.

  • do you use aperture priority more than manual jared?

  • @AcornBurrka not at this point no.

  • "Shoo, bee!"

  • tourists with their point & shoots trying to get in the mix.

  • i thought it was just 5 minutes BOOM..

  • 11:45 Great meal yeah!

  • I just keep thinking no Twisted Sister for some reason.

  • The Balck&White's are just awesome ! :D

  • Wgat about a new 5 min Portrait?

  • This is definitely the best 5 minute portrait video of them all. For me at least.

  • I JUST HAD TO BUY THAT SHIRT.

  • HHAHAHAH Racoon eyes goin there xD

    awesome vid though! :P

  • Hi Jared,

    Great video!

An assistant with a reflector will come in handy

for my portrait project ''Childhood Memories''.

Have a look at (just google): gofundme 6n2tk

    Erik

    Vietnam

  • If my friend asks me for quick 1-2 minutes potrait session, I usually take funny distorted photo with wide angle lens from short distance + blow the background shot with the 50mm and or 2.8 tele lens

  • Am I the only one that thinks this guy is the biggest prick?

  • If you would have used either the gold or silver reflective surfaces it would have gotten rid of the raccoon eyes.

  • Are you a photographer? Seems to be obvious shit.

  • So I'm shooting at 200 ISO, that's as low as it goes, it's reading about 4000 ISO...what does that mean????? Would you mind explaining that? Please????

  • what lens were you recording with?

  • 7:40 was sooooo funny

  • 6:29 . What was that ?

  • @MrFloppywaffles haha i looked at this scene about 10 times till i noticed that it was a bug haha :D

  • @MrFloppywaffles Looks like it was a bird or butterfly

  • what is falling down at 6:28? :D

  • well great video but i woudl have one question do you like the bokeh , the blurry background more when you use a wide open lens or when you use a lens with longer focal length? its a question im always thinking about..

  • how come the first image the background isnt blown out? where where you focused on?

  • What the hell was that at 6:30?

  • Candid ?? You posed him the entire time.

  • hmm nothing special

  • I like these real shoots you get a much better Idea of the shots and flow.

I would love to see someone do an on location shoot at a business like a hotel that shows about finding the place and the photo shoot space and getting the permitions. you allways see these awesome shooting locations like a mansion or hotel pool but they never show how they get access to those places.

  • I like the long videos but I felt the need to help others that want a shorter video. So here is what you do. If you want only a 5 min video watch the video for 5 min the press stop. This actually works for any length video you want.

  • What a nice ass...

  • Which lens do you use the most Jared? :D

  • Gizmo was sweating in the heat.

  • One Question: Why ISO 200 ? :D:D Don't you almost "automatically" change to 100, when you're able to shoot at a faster shutter speed that, let's say at least 1/1000. I'd guess that you don't have to raise the ISO anymore whatever you're shooting at :D

  • @xfiredevilxxx The D3s lowest standard iso is 200.

  • @Chriswoz83 :D that's kinda weird ... didn't think of that could be possible, too ... but yea, the D3s likely even handles ISO1600 like my Lumix FZ-28 handles ISO-100 so it was just a question in general...

  • these lenses are like 2000$ each right? WOW

  • Hey Jared, Breaking the rules right at noon, I always try to never shoot at that time right in direct sun light because of the harsh shadows on the subjects face. You couldn't push it for a later time in the day? Good video

  • Jared........ cardio....

And I consider "thumbs up" statements as spamming.

I'd love to see a video using primes.

Many of us don't carry more that 2 lenses. Often, one being a prime.

  • kind of a douch here but i still like his videos

  • Thumbs up if you want to see Jared Polin post more videos of him doing photoshoots!

  • What time of the day where you shooting?

  • @photopilotjosh47 mid day as in 1230!!!! breaking the rules.

  • Great video again Jarod... when you're shooting portraits, do you autofocus using the AF-ON or the AE-L/AF-L button (for locking composition)? - thanks!

  • @SimonMorris71 just the shutter button.

  • how do you focus in on his eyes every time?

  • @giantLUKE2 i recompose and lock in.

  • Thumbs up if you want JaredPolin to post more videos of him doing photoshoots!

  • what do you think of aperture 3?

i have lightroom and aperture but i find aperture a little more user friendly

  • 7:46 sounds like the sims

  • Dork @ 7:40

  • 7:40 looks like a chicken with its head cut off.

  • Jared you are the best. I found your channel 2 weeks ago and watch alot of your stuff in the studio in my down time! I look forward to anything you post in the future and I need to get one of those I Shoot Raw shirts!

  • those pictures are awful

  • @lauserlu Got better ones?

  • Now wait a sec, at one moment there was a Nikon D3S and i assume another pro body DSLR on the ground and an Nikon D3100 filming and you weren't looking?

I almost fell of my chair of amazement.

    Great vid btw :D

  • @anthonie1224 Just a d3s for the shoot, D7000 recording the video and gizzy had a d3000.

  • @JaredPolin , still about 4500 dollar on the ground, why didn't you had your blackrapid?

Still really enjoy your vids and watch them all, you are my mentor.

  • Looks like a bird took a shit at 6:29?

  • Why does not autofocus work in live view when i'm at 100mm to 300mm on the sigma 70-300mm lens.

  • gizzy looks jizzy

  • 70-200mm = Portrait King Lens

  • Make a video for the bicep workout you use.

  • Hey Jared, nice vid :)

You talked about fill flash, i know there are many different ways and solutions all depending on your situation, but for this situation, what kind of flash would you have liked to use? One of those big white plastic lightbox thing you put on your flash, would you setup a tripod with an umbrella or is that too cumbersome? or would you just have the flash go off straight at him with perhaps a filter?

  • That reflector didn't do anything. Shadows are still cast underneath features.

  • @lenhister exactly, i pointed that out during the video that it really didnt work out to well.

  • Hey Jared what do you think of the Tamron 28-75mm for Canon?

  • I want one of these "I SCHOOT RAW" shirts ! but in live in Germany, does this matter? :(

  • @VasquezZ95 He Ships to Germany.

  • @TheMichaelMedia

Oh Man Thanks, u saved my day! :))

  • no Rembrandt lighting is this portrait???

  • I'd be far too afraid to run while holding over $7,000 of camera in my hand. Why didn't you use your Black Rapid?

  • @chad1675 thats kind of true.

  • This was helpful

  • Quick Suggestions... How bout calling these series "Fro's Quick Portraits" so it gives you more then 5 minutes...

  • @360mix I like how five minutes means twenty . I find it to be more Fro esque than if it was 5:00 exactly .

  • random question, but do you work out?

  • I like the way you direct the subject Jared, this video is good example of building rapport and keep talking to get the most out of the model. I do struggle at times keeping the shooting going, directing and building rapport to get the most out of a shoot. Good stuff.

  • 12 min shoot is way better than a 5 minutes. Jusy sayin'! Good job.

  • I broke my lens hood last time when my camera slipped out of my hands from the 2nd floor to the ground. And it did protect the lens which didn't even have a cap on it.

  • I thought the wide angle shots at the start were very exciting with the cloud formation and the extreme angle. Excellent video.

  • 5 min portrait for 12 mins video

  • Something fell in 6:29. lol. :D

  • The 1st shot spoil by those bystanders...just sayin...XD

  • Hey Jarid were do I go to request for a video ,because I am taking my school's sport's and would like some tip's thank's hope you can read this bye.

  • Jared, you need a cameramen to do more video on the street.

  • 10:17 Is it a RAW-Shooter thing to shake the left hand? ;D

  • I was laughing so hard when you ran from that bee, its hilarious that a bee can make men look like girls.......great vid.

  • I have to stop watching this videos... this forcing me to buy 70-200 VR II :D

  • I know you mentioned it in your video, but you do know the standard meaning of true candid or even semi-candid is not displayed in this video right?

  • @Jaredpolin do you always shoot manual?

  • And that's how you get girls with photography 10:05

  • For people saying make short videos.

You are crazy! Long Videos FTW.

  • Nice video jared you should of used the silver side of the reflector and feathered the light that would of worked a treat the white side is not very good unless you bounce flash into it

  • I like how u mentioned switching lenses.. everytime I do it (especially at football games) I find new specs of shit through my view finder... its not on the sensor or in viewfinder itself, Im assuming the "Focus Screen" .....is their a way to take care of that?

  • Nicely done

  • is it just me or did you upload this a long time ago?

  • JARED POLIN - Y U NO MAKE SHORT VIDIOS!?

  • I love how the 5 minute portrait videos are consistently 12 minutes long

  • how did you skin your knee?

  • who wears all black on a hot sunny day? obviously gizzy. lol.

  • do you have someone by the camera protecting your stuff?

  • Have you ever got any of your gear stolen jared?

  • When I said A mode I meant aperture priority sorry if I confused you

  • this has been one of your best videos yet! keep up the hard work

  • really nice video bro keep it up! really teach us a lot!

  • Soooo pro!

  • Another great 5 min portrait. I shoot a D700 and just sold my 70-200 Vr2 lens to afford lighting equipment, I now have the 135mm F2 DC (and my orgingal 50mm 1.4 G). I watch all your videos you're grouse Jared! Dylan, from Australia.

  • is there a way to control where the focus is? I hear the beep while in A mode, but it's in autofocus so it picks where to focus, but in manual focus its not working out. Can you explain it please?

  • @infringinator yes get out of auto a mode. Get into AF-C or AF-S

  • @JaredPolin I usally keep it in AF-C. I keep the AF on on the lens...is there a different way to manually select focus points and keep AF on the lens?

  • @infringinator If you're in AF-C or AF-S, you can manually move the focus point with the 4-way cursor button. You won't hear a beep if the camera is in AF-C as it's continually focusing. If your camera is automatically selecting a focus point, go into the menus and change the AF area mode from Auto-area to single point, dynamic area or 3D tracking. That should do the trick.

  • @D0ct0RCh4NDR4 i'll look into it...if I cant figure it out maybe I should go back to point and shoot lol

  • @JaredPolin can you explain AF modes please an AE-L, AF-L

  • @djmaxnz Totally agree @JaredPolin , please explain :)

  • Jared, first of all thanks for everything specially your valuable videos. All what I wanna say is I hope I can see more of your 5 min portrait videos bc I think it give me a lot of experience of how to shoot outdoor. It also show me how experts like you :P shoot in outdoor. Thx again..

  • I so wish I had the money to hire you to take my business portraits.

  • what feel onto of jared at 6:28?

  • @PurpleEnt an alien!

  • what is that on 6:28?

  • @reglosk a reflector dude, both silver and gold.

  • @reglosk i think it was a bee flying by

  • @JaredPolin i think it was a bee falling xD it looked so funny!!!! :D

  • @reglosk bee

  • @reglosk A Bee

  • @reglosk is a light Reflector. I use a car windshield shade

  • Jared, you need to get your legs out more bro :P

BTW you inspired me to start shooting RAW and using Lightroom :)

  • @KDubbzProductions yes i know lol.

  • GUIIIIIIZZZZZZZZY

  • I should've waited for the 360p :P
