  • What hue is that moddeling flock? I want some for my miniature train set

  • i use polystarine for rubble

  • i like ur attitude " have a cuppa and go play som gta

  • is it possible to use a watered down elmers glue for pva glue??? anyknow if that works?

  • wow don't buy G=workshop pva or super glue, its cheaper elswhere

  • Good stuff man. Thanks for the video.

  • Yeah! Orion!

  • The reason he didn't paint it is because this is a tutorial, it doesn't need to be painted.

Great video, I love how you get straight to the point, unlike some of the 9 minute videos elsewhere.

  • Really nice effect but I found it easier to paint my models before I put an the sand/grass on the bases.

  • Damn man, I've watched a ton of vids tryin to get some basin tips and yours is deffently the best. All the others are like 20 minutes long to, stright to the point, nice video pal

  • No paint o.O that's like the number one rule in Warhammer: paint everthing

  • you talk FAAAASSSST!

  • You use a greater amount of glue then I. But your results are better aswell.

  • I would suggest to prime and paint your model before you go near the base, as when you paint it sometimes you can end up with the paint going on the gravel and its stuck there forever :O also I suggest you can paint the ring around the base a colour. Like Brown or white depending on where your army is from...

  • thanks for the help now i know and knowing is half thebattle

  • G.I.JOE !!!!!!

  • thats awesome

  • very nice although basings not my thing very good vid this will help all of you modellers out there that wanna do this sort of thing and u can buy basing kits with special rocks and dirt from your locl gw outlet

  • Great song in bgnd! :)

  • nice lol hav a cuppa and play gta lol

  • ahoy there wtf

  • you should paint the skull before

  • what song?

  • nice

  • just went out to my bros sand pit and got some xD

  • great job

  • What I do s base the mni, then get it painted as much as I'm going to, PAINT THE BASE in a light brown, put some podgy (a brand of all purpose glue, useful for sealing as well) on the base and use some LARGE sand, that's been made up like fools gold. Once that's on, bang off excess, SEAL WITH PODGY, and then use a clear coat on everything after redoing and paint fumbles during basing. I could get pictures of some marines I did in this fashion if anyone's interested.

  • that would be cool

  • good lord, people actually buy their glue from games workshop?!?!?!

your much better off getting any type of glue, modelling sand, flock or modelling tools from independent hobby stores rather than buying the branded GW stuff.

they work out much cheaper for what is essentially an identical product, plus it keeps the independent stores in business :-)

  • @PeteJones100 My thoughts exactly!

  • does the sand ever flake off or rub off at all?

  • it can if you rub it but y would you do that

  • dude pls paint it that looks awsome!

  • There are two things you could do for this model Drengi. One is the dipping technique, where you lather the base in glue and then dip it in talus or what have you, and the other is to just paint the base a grass green, or muddy brown, depending on the look your going for.

  • Do you have any tips on making a base for a chariot. I've just been asked to paint the Old Elven Chariot. Biggest model I've done and would like to base it on one single base but have no clue as to how to go about it.

  • Why does everyone do the bases first and then prime? Doesn't the primer get on the dirt that you just put on and turn it black (or white)? It seems like it would make more sense to prime it first and then glue the dirt on, but I'm just starting gettting in to Warhammer so what do I know.

  • thats what i was thinking if i made on i would completely paint it then put sand on it!

  • Totally. Last thing I do is base the mini. Though I think for purpose of the demo he just did the base

  • exactley

  • Wow, awesome, thanks a lot!

  • nice work

  • great stuff 5 stars!!!!!!!

  • i havent changed my bases, and i dunno were i'll find any of that dirt stuff.

  • well done, but its best to paint the model and skull before putting the base/sand on.

  • ...why?

  • you can use tree glue

  • im usually spend a long time on the base of my modles i cant help it, i find the base has to be interesring. good basing if you want to get it done quick but not for me!

    great vid though

  • Orion!!

  • Do you have to use PVA glue or can you use another glue?

  • PVA works best and its the cheapest, you dont have to get it from games wrkshop either, dollar store works the same :)

  • thank you i wouldnt of thought of the head of another race on the base ... thats given me some good ideas thanks again !!!

  • everyone uses an old GW brush why dont you just get cheap non GW brush. But nice work

  • were did you get those awesome orc skulls from?

  • nice work, good tips as well

  • nice video, 1 tip though.. lower the volume of the background music.

It's called background music for a reason ;)

  • One tip. Glu the screws on the base first with superglu or pva glu before you add the sand. But that way you did it work perfectly fine too. Nice vid 5/5

  • dood i wish i could do this now but its like 24:00! =P

  • yo thx man i finally i got my minutures based thnxssss :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a good way of basing is mixing a load of pva, sand, paint (mixture of brown) and a little flock then just slap it on the base (you can also put it on tanks!)

  • Dude that looks cool, I flock my own bases ushaly after I paint my modles, but after a while it got annoying, and i though i could speed it up by flockign the base first, Didnt work, my demons fell of their bases all the time and i had a hell of a lot of trouble fixing it, btw nead to ask is that demon a herald on foot, or just your banner man?

  • well I don't have any spare warhammer bases, but you think maybe it would work only little regular plastic Army men bases?

  • Yes I do.

  • nice, it looked great. Can this also work with dirt??

  • As in actual Dirt?

Never tried dude, But crap a base you have spare and try it, can't hurt =]

  • @CommunistChris

I sometimes use extra herbs and spices laying that I have laying around... they are really fine and look super cool too. You can also use green stuff like oregano or dill for grass. Great vid, thanks for sharing!

  • @CommunistChris

Best thing I've found, and been using for years, get a bannister brush and shovel and sweep up the contents of the "gutter" alongside the road, right up against the curb (before a street sweeper removes it all), it contains all sizes of aggregate from sand to fine gravel/blue metal chips... is brilliant, not to mention free

  • @Paratrooper82ndAir I did it with salt (snow effect) and mint tea (grass effect)

  • @SuperPharmacyst its cheap[er aswell!

  • hey, that looks pretty great, could you use the same method with flock?

  • i think its not that good but its not bad there are many ways you can make it better

  • Can you share some for the benefit of the viewers?

  • looks grrrrrrrreat!

  • that is before you painted the model right? coz i dont wanna base my model then find thay i should of painted first :D

btw thanks for the tut best teacher ever :D

  • Thanks :)

Yes I did that before I primed and painted him.

You can do it after you've painted it, it's all personal preference.

  • um which one is harder to paint then do it or to do it then paint?

  • THIS IS A REALLY GOOD VID,and the base looks great and easy way to do bases, thanks

  • Cheers =]

And it depends, if your gonna do like grasslands or something on the base, add the sand AFTER painting the model, but I do mainly ash waste, so I prime it with the model and then DB is codex grey :D

  • Walkers crisps!! Hahaha cool btw

  • "go an' ave' a cuppa' and play some grand theft auto"

tea is like a currency over there they think its a message from god lol

  • YEAH MAN!

    TEA FTW!

  • Tea is a currency mate. US$400 for one kilogram of Makaibari estate Silver Tips.

  • Pretty good vid, but the background music was drowning out your instructions.

  • great teacher

  • love it

  • nice work! looks perrfect.

Do you know a technique for snow bases though?

i was thinking for snow you could paint over the sand/gravel and drybush a bit over that.

    Would that work?

cuz im doing a snow themed daemon army

  • Not too sure about snow bases, probably be better off using very fine gravel or REALLY fine polystyrene.

  • use saw dust and spray paint it white or use flour :p looks really gr8

  • Ah thanks for that :) might test it out in a bit.

  • Well done video... Basing is my weakpoint. Excellent instruction and good music!

  • cool but i was wondering how well the bigger gravel pieces stick, cuz when i base i don't dunk my guys i actually put glue on certain places for certain things, eg. sand, gravel. i found that PVA glue doesn't work and it takes super glue to gluse the rocks down

  • That's one main reason why you be generous with the blue, it grabs the smaller and lrager rocks better, another thing that hold 'em on is priming your models afterwards (check my Prime vid if you haven't), the paint holds it down really well.

  • bcus i need some new sand, lol

  • I just use the stuff they sell in Games Workshop. =]

  • what type of modelling sand do u use m8?

  • Thanks for the "how to". This helps a great deal as I am just starting out( I just bought my first 2 figures yesterday).

  • What sand you used there...?

  • Stuff from GW =]

Just go to a hardware store and they should sell it for pittence.

  • nice video man

  • Cheers =]

  • cool. i like the idea of the ork
