....actually, quite informative and entertaining video. Just in case you play trumpet or another brass instrument, I think you might find some trumpet and brass tutorials quite intriguing over at YOURBRASSINSTRUCTOR's Channel.
@gertnood i play multiple instruments smart ass. and its not just some thing you instantly know what key something is in. You have to train yourself at it. I will say that after you learn what to listen for it really is simple. so thx for being a complete ass and making yourself look stupid. we all know for a fact you were a beginner at one point and im sure no one expected you to know how to finger a your first scale without them showing you did they? no they didn't so you can shut up :)
@rmtoyama: not sure if that was meant as a dig, but comparisons to Kenny G in musicians circles are generally regarded as a very negative thing. Though Jesse does use voice like inflection which could be seen as "smooth jazzy". Soul should not be mistaken for smooth jazz (not necessarily a bad thing- just different).
Regardless, this is bad A soulful playing much like all his TOP stuff. What a remarkable talent. No comparisons to other greats (maynard, faddis, Morrison) needed!
Dr. M is absolutely the best in the US. I think of him, James Morrison, and the late Fred Mills (who my professor was a protege of) as the greatest of my lifetime. I hope to be that next wave. ;)
I'm thinking this is the same man that played at my church many years ago. I've never heard a better sound in that building, which was not great for acoustics, as when he played. He just filled it up. Played When the Saints...
I hate to ask this, and I also hate it when other people are asking this on other videos. But this is for me the only exception, does anyone has a music sheet of this? That would be awesome. Thanks !
ANDY! JIMMY! JEFF! RANDY! LUIS! And any of my fellow Trumpet friends I might have missed..... Tell me what you think of this RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING rendition of the popular christian hymn "Because He Lives". He absolutely OWNS this song.... I can listen to this all day!!!
Jesse Blows a trumpet solo on a song I wrote called: "Angel At The Entry". It can be found on my, "Dominic John- Fallen World Record" CD. It is as sweet as a trumpet solo can get. Thanks, Doc.
Since we all agree that Jesse McGuire is insanely talented and full of Awesomeness (i know it's not grammatically correct), why are there not any more vids out there with him?
Hey azzinine627, I wouldn't worry too much about reading sheet music. Once the technical skills are there, it's best to just play what you FEEL. Check out any of my vids for examples and keep practicing.
dam now I doubt he or Phill Driscol???? shit!!! Phill is amazing this guy is outstanding , Phill has an advantage he sings and plays dam what a doubt!!! I choose bough
its about time someone says it as a trumpet player i hate it when people sit there and talk about horns in mouthpieces, my advice is always go with what feels best cause there isn't much difference, thanks again someone needed to say it
I just bought a Jean Baptiste pocket trumpet $160 that sounds better and mechanically works better than the "high end" brand name pro horns I've owned.
Brands, styles, shapes are very much irrelevant.
Play the damn horn and mousepiece that works for you.
It's hard to say because the detail isn't very good, but I think that's a Benge trumpet; the bracing from the leadpipe to the bell sure looks like Benge.
I saw Jesse play at a high school jazz festival, during my senior year of high school. We sat in and he ran a clinic with us, the guy is a great person to talk to and a great trumpet player to listen to. I prefer his higher register clean-ness to Maynard's, no disrespect to Maynard.
his tone is so amazingly thick and powerfull and not to mention full even when he plays quiet. my favorite part is 1:29-1:32 i love that part. and that little jump to a high c shortly after. and the ending run in the upper register.
i was looking at videos today was the first time i have ever heard of him omg in my opinion he smokes maynard ferguson when it comes to his gorgeous tone quality
Huntdog.. He's really good, no doubt about it. And I really like his playing with Tower of Power, Star Spangled Banner, etc. However, for MF you might try watching the videos I have posted where he plays Maria and Somewhere. NO one could play ballads mixed with high register like Maynard could.
I just feel, at times, that maynards sound (actual sound emitted by his trumpet) sounds a bit like something made out of plasic..Jesse har a richer tone with more núances and more feeling
@huntdog44 Jessie has a fantastic, and he did such a great job on this solo - very interesting, and he didn't miss anything. Really, though, you can't compare Jessie (who goes no higher than a high G on this) with Maynard - they're just different. Maynard has a great tone from High D through the Stratosphere of the trumpet.
Don't forget Jon Faddis, Dizzy and Arturo Sandoval. Jon Faddis and Sandoval came close to Maynard in range, but nobody could match Maynard in raw power and stamina.
I think that Dizzy had more style and technical skill than all of them.

anybody know wat key this is in?
spum789 4 months ago
@spum789 If you play any instrument, you can figure it out in two seconds. If you don't, then why do you care?
The answer is: F
He's playing a Bb trumpet, so he's playing in G.
