  • @kitten882 It's actually in A minor, which uses all the same keys as C major on the keyboard, but has a 'minor' or sad quality to it rather than an uplifting or major 'quality'. Try playing chords based on the note A rather than C and you'll see what I mean. Hey, I know you posted that four years ago, but better late than never!

  • Skata

  • This is so hauntingly beautiful

  • i was there!!!!got drum stick ,song sheet and plecky!! 17 and all i had was a bottle of southern comfort ..yuk cried like anob after. emotional stuff. probably the peak. low-life1

  • There is something ethereal about this song. It just takes you to a completely different fucking place.

  • thank you for this post, you are clearly a top guy,you know whats what friend

  • This was always one my 3 favriote songs by New Order. This instrumental is just so beautiful

  • Shit, I was there! BUT too off my nut to remember!

  • Shame they never played the full length version....

srsly though this is un-real live, props for the vid

  • This excellent instrumental is the featured item on the 13th of February of the book, 'The Song For Today' by Jimmie Oliver.

  • I concur with Wolfekeeper, it was the opener, the sound was exemplary though that may not be evident from the clip.

Never heard any of the abuse.

  • I saw this particular performance live.

There was all this abuse from some of the crowd, calling names, calling them Nazis and stuff- you can just about hear some of it at the end of this video. It was the first track they did.

Bernard got really mad and smashed a glass bottle into about a billion pieces on stage. It was all a bit f***ed up really.

They did carry on though, but they were not happy.

  • Beautiful.

  • wow. thank you very much for posting this video. absolutely fucking incredible

  • Sumner sounds absolutely shit faced

  • real shame they stopped playing it live its one of their best moments

  • love this song

  • Strange... live, this sounds like part of it is played on steel drums.

  • Pretty in Pink!

  • Elegia is my middle name!

    my mom likes new order

  • Cool!

  • is that true?, if so that is awesome

  • Yeah Its true thats why my You tube name is Eleiga

I spell it wrong for online things

  • Good work to your mum.

My best mate had this played at his wedding as the wedding march,

i love it every time they do this live

  • Im not sure.

I've been trying to figure the keyboard parts out now, and its not too complicated.

  • I looked for Elegia cause I just read that New Order dedicated this song in loving memory of Ian Curtis... anybody knows if that's true? Beyond that, WOW... what a wonderful melody!

  • I agree. Must be the classical nature of it.

It is their best. I hadn't heard it in years until I saw the animation Rust, and I just about lost my marbles. Instrumental music can be really powerful. I'm just now noticing the triplets in the picked guitar. None of the parts are expendable. They all add to such a bleak mood. Wonder what key its in.

  • just...wow...I think of the happiest and sadest moments of my life when I hear this...isn't that what powerful music is suppost to do? wow...

  • It breaks my heart.

  • shear brilliance

  • So dark...

  • I agree BEST SONG ever

  • My favorite New Order song!!!!!!!!!!

  • a little raw live, but still powerful as hell.
