I think the reason for the success of Kamaz is that they have significantly better resources for developing of the vehicles compared to the small private teams. If you check the origin of components, the vehicles are not so Russian after all. But I don't mean this to underrate the success of Kamaz Master team. They have done good work and deserved their prizes.

Since 2009, the Kamaz Master rally team is not a part of Kamaz truck factory. However, even before 2009, the level of financial support that the factory was able to provide was not even coming close to the capabilities of big Western truck manufacturers.

Oh, BTW, look at the argument between Carlos Sainz and Nasser Al-Attiyah in Volkswagen team on 13-th stage of 2010 Dakar. Does not look like high morality. They do not have adequate financial support? I doubt. However, same situation happens regularly in Kamaz Master team (two top notch pilots compete for victory). Do they argue about who gonna win? Nope. This is the morality.
Well the record of Karel Loprais (6 times Dakar winner on Tatra) is not yet bet. However, he already retired and Chagin is still young, so he is in a great position to beat Loprais.

But in 2009, when he crashed, Kamaz came first to help him. The truth is (even though it may traumatize your pride), Kamaz is superior in both, sport and morality. And the others should learn from Kamaz team what is spirit and respect to others.

@LKHK76 Kamaz team has a rule of 15 meter distance to motorcycle when passing. It is sufficient not to "steamroll" reasonable drivers who pay attention to Sentinel signals about faster vehicles approaching and do not make sudden maneuvers instead of yielding (like Philippe Tonin did on Transorientale)
And if you think Kamaz drivers are too aggressive then look at what their competitors are doing.

The protest was made for the following reasons:
1. Jerard de Rooy was insisting on neutralization of the results of the whole stage (he made a navigation error prior to the Tatra accident and lost lots of time). De Rooy said that the accident with Tatra traumatized him so much that he was not able to drive fast.
2. According to the Dakar rules, only first two crews that stop to provide help get their time back. De Rooy was neither the 1-st, nor the 2-nd. Even more, he was not providing help to the Tatra, he just stopped and tried to convince everybody to stop the race. When Kabirov who was helping the Tatra (there is a video evidence here) declined his suggestion, de Rooy went to the race stewards and told them that the race should be stopped.
3. In 2007 when Chagin crashed, another Kamaz came 3-rd to help, but their time was not compensated.
The race rules must be equally applied to everybody. De Rooy was asking for exceptions in his favor therefore Kamaz made the protest. Only when leader of MAN team approached team leader of Kamaz and begged him to agree, Kamaz withdrew his protest about time compensation for everybody who stopped near crashed Tatra, but insisted against neutralization of the whole results of the stage.
