I saw all four of these guys just last week on tour in the UK. Met Frank and his band after the gig. Still can't believe what I witnessed that night. Sheer brilliance from all of them. Fantastic
They are both acoustic guitars, just that Frank's is an archtop with a floating neck pickup, and Tommy's is a flattop with an under-saddle pickup.
On the new album that Frank and Tommy put out, Tommy is playing a 1930's era Kalamazoo guitar guitar that he mics....and it sounds great. Frank plays the Thorell archtop that he is playing in this videl, and it also sounds fantastic. Of course neither guitar would make any sound at all if Tommy and Frank weren't driving them!
TE & Frank (w/trio) superb. I saw them play together for the first time at Iridium w/ Les.Speaking of which -Dood & Ham -you're doing the dialog from Chester & Lester.."Don't you know that I am your biggest fan.." -Klav (aka The Breakfast Librarian)
Holy flyin' fingers... is there NO song that TE doesn't know, or can't play like a madman? :-) When you reach a certain point, you just hear and play -- and TE passed that spot about 5 years ago. And, if I might be so bold as to comment on this - I don't know another performer that shares the stage more graciously and compliments more styles and people than Mr. Emmanuel. Many have called me his #1 fan, and I am proud to wear the title. PEACE from Western KY - birthplace of fingerstyle!

Frank, that is totally awsome. You've come a long way since playing Richelieu banjos. You ARE a monster on that guitar! All my best to you.

Frank's one of the few people who can really run with Tommy. When they play together they get into this trance... Very cool.
