• These dudes need to go on American idol. This song fucking rocks!

  • Ashley Johnson ended up in that Mel Gibson movie

  • I loved Tracey Gold too! She's still good looking, imo.

  • You can feel the love in this song.

  • I used to have a huge crush on Tracey Gold.

  • Try playing this theme with the first season intro.

  • I vidily remember watching the final episode. Especially that last scene when Carol comes back in and says bye to the house.

Unreal how it really felt like losing a member of the family, and feeling that void. Shows today are more edgy, dark, real, but totally lack heart that is remembered far after they're gone like many great shows from the past .

  • Some says it's Take 6, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone know who really sang the song?

  • @jeryhen It definintely sounds like Take 6.

  • Can I get this version on iTunes? I love this version...I remember singing along along with it when I was a kid (doing all the accapella parts of course). I miss all the theme songs/music from the 70's & 80's. Bring them back!!

  • I get goosebumps from this version. Those are some amazing vocals.

  • So sad that today's shows don't have a real opening to them...To be honest, I do LOVE Modern Family, but I can watch in one time, & I'm done...I don't watch repeats, no saved recordings...I would LOVE to have Growing Pains on somewhere where I can watch all the shows from the start, (without no DVD version...Like back in the day when they came out) cause you never grow tired of these repeats ;)

  • Too bad tv shows don't theme songs like this anymore. Golden Girls, Cosby, Seinfeld, Cheers, Full House and of course Growing Pains. These shows all had TRUE theme songs.

  • Hey does anyone know where I can get this arrangement?

  • @JordanDryceSchultz Its actually done by a group called Rockapella (you might remember them from Where In the World is Carmen...) and was released as an IMPORT single (too many legalities to be released in the states). I SERIOUSLY doubt you can buy the cd anymore, but it was released in Japan. I have a copy, but I still listen to it. If Rockapella ever releases a b-sides or a box set, you might be able to get it on there, but the cd had this, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and another song. Good luck.

  • @ariasha45 You are incorrect. Rockapella definitely did NOT sing this version. I'm a huuuuge Rockapella fan. People always assume it's them because of their popularity in 1992. It was not them, and it was not Take 6, as others also assume. I'm searching for the group. The end credits of that season might say, but I can't find it yet.

  • I think they were too old to have another kid (the little firecrotch girl) plus she was annoying

  • Best version ever!!!

  • This is by far my favorite version of the Growing Pains theme song!

  • I remember Boner....you just can't get away with that anymore.

  • I put this song on a mix cd for my wedding. Wife not too happy. But SHOW ME THAT SMILE AGAIN!

  • they really need to do a reunion show. + this was the best damn t.v show theme ever

  • @jimboFranklin they did.. youtube Growing Pains reunion... :)

  • It is NOT Rockapella regardless fo what Wikipedia says. It is NOT Rockapella!

  • @cagekicker18 It sounds like the singers from the band Orleans.

  • Genuine Happy TV Family!

It doesn't get more believable than this.

  • BEST TELEVISION THEME EVER!

  • if you enjoy growing pains episodes Watch this "Growing Pains Last Picture Show 2 Part 3 (Final Part)"

  • anyone got any sudafed?

  • Who sang this version tho...Never knew who did this one?

  • @Lu70sChild80sFan rockapella

  • ich liebe diese musik^^

  • this would make a great song for a wedding! I am so proud of the man that Kirk Cameron grew up to be, so honorable and respectable- how many role models today can u say that about!

  • Best version of this song ever!

  • @ravengurl92

I AGREE!! The other versions were great too, but this one really has it's place at #1...I can't think of one show out there today that has a great beginning like this! Nothing is family-related anymore either!

  • I feel bad kids these days won't grow up to these sitcoms anymore.

  • @gjhalani yeah they've missed the best yrs of family sitcomes.. and the theme songs were all good.. including this one! now we have shows are too simliar like Gossip Girl, etc.... it's not the same. I think 7th Heaven was the last family shows that brings back the memories of these shows.. after that.. its not the same.

  • @gjhalani

I know. It's because they've got all these shows that seem to promote slutty teen girls and unruly boys. Shame.

  • @gjhalani they will because time has ended, didn't you know? all culture & media was current once high speed internet became available. You think the "kids" are watching TV?

  • Gosh there was a time when sit-coms were actually funny. :)

  • I just love this theme song and it describes the show so perfectly. lol It's all about family who sticks together and uses that to get through things. And the a capella version is so beautiful. With this version and what it's saying about the show almost brings me to tears. They did really good with this. :)

  • I definitely miss this show. I Love the theme song so much, I wish shows like this exist now.

  • @Akvz368

I just typed the same thing on another message board! Kids today don't know what we had when we were growing up...Now it's all internet, & iphones for kids...Such a shame!

  • This is without the best theme ever for a television theme song! Family Ties is right next to it.

  • This was my favorite version!

  • thank doowoop

  • There has been alot of speculation in regards to who actually performed this song and although the good folks @ wikipedia claim that it is "Rockapella", I can assure you it is not. I would have to think that for as many voices that can be heard, it must be a relatively large group of session or backup singers all assembled for this acapella version. It certainly sounds good though doesn't it? Life was so much easier back then.

  • @cagekicker18 Whoever is singing sounds to me like *maybe* two men singing the entire thing with 8-12 voice overdubbing. Listen to this again, and then look up a Carpenters (Karen & Ricahrd) accapella recording (Without a song is a major one) and then compare the two. I am thinking Overdubbing here and it sounds GORGEOUS.

  • @cagekicker18 Doesn't the wikipedia page say that it is performed by Take 6? That's one more person haha.

  • @Chromyne Ahhh, yes Wikipedia. The world's greatest source of questionable information. Wikipedia can be and often is, an information outlet that is subject to personal beliefs, rumors and innuendo. Just because someone decided to enter info that they THINK is true doesn't make it fact. Although there is a small fragment of useful and concise information contained on the Wikipedia web page, that information can be edited, twisted and manipulated. Ha ha!

  • Is this the Judds singing?

  • @7214Nick Rockapella

  • Cameron and Gold turn from blond children to brunette adults!!! What gives????

  • @happy543210 it's called hair dye, boo:)

  • @Geequemodel Don't think so. Completely natural process.

  • @happy543210 I don't know why, but it happens all the time. My dad was born blonde and now his hair is almost black (well gray now). I was a few shades lighter as a child as well.

  • goosebumps is right - listened to this about 100 times in the past couple days

  • I remember hearing this theme for the first time and thinking how awesome the harmony was! It really makes me sad to think that music nowadays relies so much on technology, especially singing, that we will probably never hear vocals that sound this smooth and harmonious. If you want harmony, just hit a button, your voice will be replicated 5 times in whatever key your singing in, Sang a little flat? let antares autotune fix it for you? Don't worry about the effort of singing well!

  • MUCH better opening theme

  • this show sucked and kirk cameron is a fuckin retard, but this theme is goosebumps worthy

  • I didn't much like it slowed down but the best part of this new theme are the silly family pictures at the end.

  • get goosebumps from that shit..

  • you know that whenver they change the theme song..it's over! It's like a desparate attempt to save the show.

  • @blauvelt216 Maybe but this version kills, especially at 0:19. Makes me think of my family since we watched this together back in the day.

  • I hated when they changed the theme, I didn't like it slowed down.

  • That little girl with the ugly hair that they added was such a big piece of shit, she made Tina Yothers on Family Ties look like Meryl Streep.

  • @johnny07652 You're calling a little girl a piece of shit?

  • @TheArfdog Yes, the ugly little girl. Krissie Seaver. What a piece of shit. She makes Tina Yothers look like Julie Andrews

  • @johnny07652 Well you better check her out again, Ashley Johnson. She's fine as hell now.

  • I love this version....anything acapella - Thanks for posting it

  • Does anyone know where to get a full copy of this version on CD? or download?

  • @Mark3583 get tha you tube mp3 maker its free

  • @airwolfwwf I searched for "T.H.A. you tube mp3 maker" but nothing came up

  • @ayeroxor u tube ... dvdvideosoft

  • @ayeroxor u tube dvdvideosoft...... look 4 mp3 or Free You Tube To MP3 Converter

  • i know!!!! I'm getting choked up! poor boner!

  • tears come to my eyes every single time. i wish there was a full length version. really i remember all my gowning pains at 28.thanks for posting this tinmanic

    Alan Thicke Age 62

    Joanna Kerns Age 56

    Kirk Cameron Age 39

    Tracey Gold Age 38

    Jeremy Miller Age 33

    Ashley Johnson Age 26

  • Thank you.

Boy, time sure does fly! But memories are forever... sorry I know that's cliche, but it's so true.

  • @Bandeto I know huh. I thought I would always be 15. Now at 32 I struggle to keep each day separate from the other.

  • Damn!!!

  • tracey is actually older than kirk by a year

  • love how Ashley Johnson's character aged 6 years in one season

  • @whitedevil2 It's tv land lol

  • can i download this song???? i want to make a slide show of my family with movie maker with this song!! i can't this song on itunes. is their another way?

  • Didn't this alternate with the "classic" Thomas/Warnes version for the last season, and was this version used in the series finale?

  • I absolutely LOVE this version!!!!!

  • I think they sampled this version in "My Kapowski" by Def Karaoke Jam...

  • the only reason i signed on youtube was this song, gosh, it brings a lot of great memories n tears (T_T) (why nobody makes this kind of songs nowadays?). i'm 29 and a father too, wish my eight months daughter could watch this someday.....

  • the shows from that 80's had the best theme songs!!

  • Now they have no theme songs.

  • @Starr1969 I totally agree with you!

  • @Starr1969 I agree

  • im 26 now, (and male) and this absolutely kills me and brings tears to my eyes............i will love this show for the rest of my life

  • me to!I makes really miss my childhood.. especially at this time of year. What's with this clip and bringing us late twenty year old guys to tears??

  • Probably cause we hate the crap that is out on tv now.....and are very nostalgic about our younger years....when music and tv/film was much much BETTER

  • Naw.. Tv on the whole has always been ripe with shit.

  • This song was made to make people cry.

  • memories... i have tears in my eyes...

  • I think Ron Jeremy would probably do Tracy Gould's dog if the money was right.

  • you think Ron Jeremy would do Tracy Gold?

  • It was great when Nick at Nite started showing Growing Pains then it sucked when they took it off and out of their line up. Not sure why they did that. This is a great show!

They tried bringing in Leonardo DiCaprio to boost ratings but no help. Little did we know at that time just how famous and big a star he would turn out to be.

  • i loved shows like this.

silver spoons, family ties, growing pains.

man, i wish i was alive in the 80s.

  • I remember the last episode when they took the last picture off the mantle and it said "Mike was here" then Carol got one last look in the door and said "Good bye!"

It was so sad cause as young as I was, I knew it was the last episode. It sucks cause there aren't any good family shows like this anymore.

  • This "a Capella" version alternated during 1990-91, then went away, and then returned on the May 1992 final episode. There was a shortened version of it as well.

  • People seem to really get the generations confused. Gen X'ers are 1961-1981--about a twenty year span.

  • But hey doesnt really matter what generation. These shows were AWESOME. I grew up with them and seems like only yesterday...

  • definitely not Rockapella or GLAD. I had a hunch that it was Take 6...and according to the wiki site, that's who it is. :) FTW!

  • hmmm... i STILL do not know who it is that sings this.... but i know it is not rockapella or take 6.. i promise. no matter where is may be cited as such...... would love to know.... as someone earlier said, quite possibly some session singers that were not even a group.... it sounds MOST like glad... but i don't know it to be them either...

  • Was this an original song written for the show?

  • Original words and tune, but this was from later seasons.

  • I'm not a baby boomer!

Wait, what generation are 30 year olds who watched this show as kids? I'm not a gen X, is it Gen Y? Anywho, I loved this show, all these 80's tv shows, they taught morals, they taught personality, they taught good manners, and were funny. Honestly, this type of sitcom needs to come back. Our kids deserve it. Wow I'm so preachy, somebody slap me!

  • best t.v show theme song ever

  • this show is the best ever nick was relly dum 2 stop showing it... man this so is graet and so is the song i have every eposide on my fravorirte lol

  • when i heard this when this aired.. omg i loveeeeeed it.. They used to switch it back and forth.. so on some days we'd hear the acappella and on some days it's the regular tune. Ahh man i love this show.. :)

  • Rumor has it that Alan Thicke and some other guys did this a capella... ( you can kinda hear Alan's voice) perhaps Jeremy Miller and Kirk? ( NOT Capt. James T.!! :-P)

  • aww..yoo amoo

    esaa seriiee♥

  • I don't know about Tracy Gold, I thing Joanna Kerns is pretty sweet here

  • Ahhh the memories!!! Is it just me or is Tracey Gold really hot?

  • Loved this show and loved this theme!

  • That's some sweet music!

  • loooove it

  • I can't stop listening to it!!! hahaha

  • This is the S-H-I-T!!!

  • hey...where leonardo?was he not in the themes

  • I love this version. It's awesome.

  • I had a HUGE crush on Kirk Cameron back then! Growing Pains Rocked! A true family show for everyone! But seriously, I hate to get all sentimental and all, but it's shows like these that brought families together back in the 80's & 90's! At least when shows like Growing Pains, Family Ties, Cosby Show, ect came on, parents knew where their kids were. I think if the TV industry whould go back to shows like these, families whould be a lot closer.

  • Idoljunky32: You are SO right! I couldn't agree with you more. It seems that you can't watch anything with your family nowadays! :(

  • I was most certainly born in 1991. I just love the show!

  • yea i think ur right, the shows these days, most of them just really aren't suitable for kids, the ones on network tv anyways

  • loved this shows, amazing actors, wonderful story and beautiful tv theme, its in your head and never gets out :D

  • this is one of my favorite opening theme song versions of Growing Pains

  • This was one of my fave shows of all time. Jeremy Miller=♥ :D

  • Wow I"m 28 and I remember all these great eighties and nineties shows. Great memories...

  • one of the best tv theme songs, and one of the best renditions. ah, the good old days...

  • I really do think IMHO that Kirk Cameron looked like John Mayer...maybe it's just me :D

  • lol...yeah I see it too

  • I hear ya. I'm going to be 30 next year, and I can't believe it. For some reason, I've been listening to these old 80s theme songs, from shows that I loved as a kid. This a capella Growing Pains theme was one of my favorites. I think Growing Pains was wrongly categorized as just a dumb kids' show. Maybe it was in the beginning, but the later episodes were really witty and clever.

  • im in the same 30s boat with you. And its hard for me to watch things like this from when I was a kid.

  • I'll be 31 in a couple of months, and can't believe how fast it's all gone by. It's seems like just a few years ago I was watching stuff like this weekly (or even daily with evening re-runs) but it's really been a deceade and a half.

  • I loved the show regardless. It's funny, but, I don't recall seeing seasons of GP on dvd? have you or anyone else?

  • yes they do... i have the first season.. but i couldnt find anymore after that

  • what store so that I can look into it. Happy holidays.

  • Watching this makes me look at how much I've grown... I want my Childhood back, Somebody call Doc and Marty so we can go Back IN Time...

  • Take me with you.

  • LOL I totally agree!

  • i love this version of the theme song. alan thicke is truly a handsome man. this song gives me chills, it's sung so beautifully. my intern and i have been listening to it non-stop all day. We have been inspired to create our own acapella group, and will work as hard as we can to create a television show theme song to be heard by millions some day.

  • I think they used this version to wind down the show in the last season so, yeah it's more dramatic, but I like it.

  • Bjt this kid.. URGH! You're right... creepy...

  • wonderful!!! my childhood...even in germany... and this song.. memories... :)

  • this show was perfect as far as a sitcom is concerned. the song is genius for its short length

  • Along with several other flubs, I am now convinced this theme song, too serious and somber for a sitcom, is one reason the show tanked in its later days. That and the fact that the kids just grew up a little too far when all was said and done.

Then again, if Mike had become a daddy then you could have continued the show into a new generation of Seavers...

  • Is just me or did they change Ben Seaver's character, a male version of Carol (more like her season 1 character a geek with brains) and gave the ultra cool hip character to Leonardo DiCaprio when played Luke in the last season. And when Cameron decided to chose Faith. Miller could of been the Teen Idol up there with Leo, (if memory serves me right) The show could of last...If Gold wasn't sick, and Cameron a Religion freak, (dont mix faith with work) other wise you commit career suicide

  • No, it was just puberty for Jeremy Miller. His name actually became a byword for kids who get uglier as they mature.

BTW, I wonder why they used the same set of opening photos in the 7th season that they did in the 6th? By the end of the 7th season those pictures of Jeremy, Ashley and Leo were almost 2 years old, which is awfully obsolete for kids and teens.
