@jcd123ish how can I be a poser...when I actually smoke weed....and why I might add am I sitting here a year after this forgotten comment was posted, a completely different person, being insulted and commenting back? Is it because I care? Must be.
Massive error on my part - one of my friends worked on this series and I asked to be in the audience for Sheryl Crowe and Tori Amos. Now I know I should have begged to be in the Wilco audience!
No really, why point that sort of crap out if you weren't going to announce to over 300,000 people that you were a pot head? It's pointless. Stop killing braincells.
It was a randomized name, but I do love Paul McCartney. Also, this was a weak argument, letting me know that you have nothing to criticize other than my name upon which you have no knowledge of it's origins. By the way, check your spelling and grammar more often. Wrong kind of "Your"; it's You're*, idiot.
@Beatlesrbetter666 Criticizing someones name was the whole premise of your comment to poor 420and such. Pot does virtually nothing harmful to you so you dont know what your talking about, Their is NO way thats a randomized name. And its lame to correct someones grammar on a youtube post. (However i really shouldn't have started the last sentence with a preposition)
Woody Guthrie wrote a whole bunch of lyrics that he never set music to. According to the CD liner notes, "Woody's daughter Nora Guthrie approached me in the spring of 1995 with the idea of writing some new music to accompany those lost songs" (Billy Bragg). Bragg in turn approached Wilco and asked them to participate in the project as well. Wilco agreed, and in addition to recording with Bragg in Ireland, they were given their own share of songs to finish.
If you like these guys as much as I do, and you want to discover a similar up and coming artist. Check out Jailbox on iTunes, Twitter, and Myspace. I think you'll like what you hear ;)
@derekhudson1975 you cant find it because it never existed. Wilco and Billy Bragg were given songs that he wrote but never recorded and they put music to them. They put out two albums, Mermaid avenue volumes 1 and 2. Wilco's songs turned out great for the most part. Billy Brags on the other hand, not so much....
@FidellC Billy Bragg did his versions in a different style than Wilco did. I believe his style was a little closer to what Guthrie had intended. "Unwelcome Guest" was one of the best tracks on the CD.
I guess after all the shit I went through in court to know you Victor Wilson, I still would like to thank you baby, even though you 'f%c*k'g hate me now, heh, well baby I hate my life and me too, why do you think I wanna lay my head on the bed of califorina stars?
As they tried to tell us in "Late Greats" the best music landed nowhere near the radio...not that radio is horrible...I had to start somewhere! May be the best music I ever heard
Steinbeck is smiling. When the guys join in on the harmonies, it's like the rest of the fellas around the campfire all agree, saying, "Yeah, the picking was tough today, but the fire's good, the grub's good, the stars are cool, and this is all better than nothin', which is what I had back in Oklahoma! Whoo-yeah! Let's sing!"
Unfortunately the masses prefer plastic Barbie and Ken dolls who's "songs" are scientifically-derived formula crap written by "professional song writers".
@DarthKazi check yourself man. thats not why pop music's gone so far downhill. these guys are professional song writers too. their music just doesn't suck. and it's real. the song writers you are referring to would have no power if not for the willingness or eagerness of the public to lap up the dog shit and shun true music.
@ledzeppelin4485 Jeff Tweedy is a pro song-writer, but writes for himself and his band, not for plastic fake people. He writes what he likes. Heck, he told Reprise to go fuck themselves when they wanted them to change their album many years ago, to suit the whims of the money men in charge. The "professional song writers" I'm referring to, just pump out formula crud for ASCAP royalties, not as a passionate artistic release.
Wilco is such a great unknown band... I mean ya they sell out most of there concerts but man... if they were more popular... By the way I love this song, thanks for the post.
Yeah, great tone from Guitar Jay. But the playing, almost a Keith Richards pastisch. I like it. But not as innovative as anything done by Wilco post YHF.
Does he play through the Matchless? I see a little tweed Champ or Princeton next to the Jazzmaster. But he might play through he Matchless.
jay is jay farrer, who played in uncle tupelo with jeff. people love to share their "opinions" about which one is better.I find this somewhat childish like they just read tiger beat magizine or something...its just about the MUSIC

Harsh, Joe! I meant no offense. Wilco and Billy Bragg used the actual lyrics from Woody's song and credited him appropriately on their Mermaid tribute album to him, so it is not a rip off in the normal sense. Anyway, who could do a better job of bringing these lost lyrics to life, except maybe the Jayhawks?
The drummer is holding one of those "maraca" (spelling??) things....that's why your hearing that faint "shugga-shugga" type sound in the background...talented drummer adding some spice and depth to the sound is all..
