  • New technology aka same shit we had decades ago, E legs aka the overused E'riginality.

All those exos are worthless if you dont have a good portable power source (batteries suck).

Its the same electric car but on legs.

I would say new technology if they used some kind of material that contracts when current is applied and uses a new type of batteries.

  • My dad and family are traveling to California this weekend to test this thing out! He is a T-5 paraplegic since 2001. In the past year he has regained strength and even some return in his legs by swimming and standing in his standing-frame. We hope e-Legs will help his muscles 'remember' how to walk again as he continues to gain strength.

  • this technical solution is remarkable , very nice video , very pretty woman. 1. it is by far , less safe then a wheelchair.

    2. the subject uses crutches so most of the effort is on him. Perhaps a quadrupedal machine would be more practical / simpler thou not so spectacular.

  • 0:47 ePussy not included.

  • I am paralyzed.............

Let me preface this in that I am upset at the moment. I want me back so bad. I hurt bad this time of year. I truly respect and feel for all of you.

elegs is a gadget. a joke . a waste of effort. It's a robotic ride. a wheelchair is safer. They have standup wheelchairs, ibot etc..... That is nobody's dream as it's not walking in any definition. a non military suit to do construction like in avatar maybe.. But as a quad that's no dream.......

  • Would be awesome to connect to a chip and implant in the brain for paralyzed persons to operate on their own brain functions. This is an awesome start though.

  • This is awesome, the only thing though that I would want more is to have an erection and to ejaculate. Then I'll be happy. d(:

  • Wonderful job done so far! :)

Will it be possible for these persons to walk without crutches, at the end of the training?

  • so this is the first stage of rehab, what about full integration on a more organic level?

  • Two words: Miguel Nicolelis.

  • press 1:09

    that's where the video starts

  • atleast they're not called ' i Legs '

  • This is fantastic, but has anyone here watched Dark Angel, where the parapalegic character Logan, gets a DOD exoskelton and is able to walk. I really love how this technology is real and out there helping people!!

  • I'm doing a report on this at my school! I find this really helpful to some of the paralyzed and can see eLEGS being a future help to all of them!

  • @risadora Thank you for your comment. At the moment, eLEGS Pro is not available for children. It can accommodate a person who is 5'2" - 6'2" tall. We envision a future where eLEGS will be available for all sizes, including children. Please be sure to visit our website and complete our contact form so we can keep you updated with information. Thank you. Power UP!

  • @berkeleybionics hey i would like to get some how do i go about doing that, i am a T12 L1 paraplegic, and i would love to talk for my kids birthday so pleas send me any info you have. email. Zahirovic8@aol.com

  • @mangalamata My name is Amanda Boxtel and I am an eLEGS ambassador for Berkeley Bionics. I walk in eLEGS regularly. In response to your question, I believe that Berkeley Bionics does envision an exoskeleton in the future that will accommodate quadriplegics, however they are taking critical steps with their first medical device, the eLEGS Pro. Berkeley Bionics is conducting investigational trials with the eLEGS Pro device in rehabilitation centers across the US. I hope this helps.

  • @berkeleybionics Thank you -You folks are great! I pray for all success in your endeavors!

  • is there hope for quadriplegia?

  • Are you adapting to pediatric uses?

    Cerebral palsy adaptations?

  • compared to her wheelchair. . mobility in these legs is incredibly slow and clunky and fragile and not truly bi-pedal since it relies on 2 crutches. They've still got a ways to go with this tech.

  • Mere words cannot express how I feel about the benefits that this kind of technology can bring to mankind ! I have nothing but admiration for people who are doing this work. Let's keep the cost down. Right !

As long as it's always available to the general public and not just the military.

  • I love the fuckin human race

  • @14, she clearly moves her right leg.

  • @oavgsgis If you look carefully she lifts it.

  • @oavgsgis actualy watch her right arm, she picks up her leg then switches to the other leg :)

  • What are the differences between this and the ReWalk?

  • This is monumental! Please make it affordable, the more people who are able to afford it the more purchases.

  • Brilliant!, Congrats to Berkeley Bionics for bringing the future to today. Berkeley and Argo with the re-walk I think? making the wheelchair an obsolete devise. This would have saved my grandfather. God Bless You and ever forward.

  • I don't share the same excitement... I've been paralyzed in a wheelchair since 1999 at the age of 16. The robo-legs, I mean eLegs, should be used solely in physical rehab facilities at best.. Come on Berkeley.... To use language like "for wheelchair uses who are commited to living life to the fullest" Really guys?! Sorry to burst your bubble, but I wouldn't be able to come close to living my life to the fullest in those v1 robo-legs. Try really hard not to sell hope for Benjamin and his bro's..

  • Why can't this be built to work with upper extremities? Many could benefit from upper body/extremity assistance. So, is it a money matter or tech problem. Or, simple demand...more paras than quads... I really want to understand. Please point me in right direction.

  • Wow in 10 so years it could cost 10000. Image it for all the people who are handy capped. So happy for there people

  • Thank goodness for smart people.

  • FYI: Valley Medical Center became the first spinal cord injury rehabilitation center in

the United States to test the new ground-breaking eLEGS technology in

    an inpatient clinical setting.

  • this is cool!

  • The REX exoskeleton is better, no need for crutches and it walks independently.

  • @TarlaStar That piece of shit by Rexbionics would take you a week just to walk 5 feet. It's too big and to damn slow. They'll be out of business by the time Rewalk and Berkeley gets these things to actually let you run again instead of walking.

  • @CuervoBlack06

That was almost a year ago. You haven't seen REX lately. And this thing still doesn't leave your hands free like Rex, nor does it balance on its own. This is assisted walking instead of robotic walking. Let's see which one gets into the market first, eh?

  • @TarlaStar I can guarantee you it sure as hell wont be Rex. That thing still needs 10 years to go before it can even be used as a paper weight. I have been keeping updated on Rexbionics and nothing has changed. It still needs Atari joysticks to move it and just forget about wearing the damn thing if you ever need to get to the rest room or prepare to start wearing adult diapers. The E-legs is already in rehabilitation clinics and will be in the home market in 2013. As for Rex, probably 2035.

  • @CuervoBlack06

It was designed to be used in a rest room, so you're very wrong on that account, and isn't a joystick a hellova lot easier to use than a pair of crutches? I think so. You only need the strength to move a thumb for Rex, instead of the ability to hold yourself up on crutches. Try changing a light bulb using e-legs, and then try it using Rex. If I knew you personally, I'd put money on seeing Rex being used by the public well before e-legs.

  • @TarlaStar That says more about you that you're retarded enough to throw money away on bullshit products like Rex. Please do yourself a favor and stay out of Casinos and away from the Stock Market before you end up living out of a cardboard box.

  • That's really inspiring. I hope I do something to help the world like this too.

  • I wonder how strong the bones are in the legs, after not being used in so long.

  • wow this video brought a tear to my eyes and i haven't cried in a few years.

  • damn I feel so bad for wanting to scream TITI..TIMMY!

(even though I know I should scream Jimmy )

  • This is a one small step forward. Not a big achievement because of size. I hope they can reduce its size so that it can be wore under cloths. May be it will take another 10 years for them to get there.

  • Comment removed

  • @RHYTHM72010

Yeah, because you wear your wheelchair under your clothes. This exoskeleton will be useful mainly for rehabilitation. This is a huge step forward.

  • so....what's the difference from HAL exoskeleton.

  • @sh3n3ng Hal is only designed to assist the work that you're still able to do under your own power such as, walking, lifting heavy objects, etc. The E-Legs walks for those that have lost the ability to do so, whereas the Hal would be completely useless for paraplegics.

  • @CuervoBlack06 thanks.

  • Go, Berkeley, go! This is the most incredible thing I've seen all year!

  • awesome, i love it

  • wow

  • Berkeley Bionics is spending a disturbingly large amount of money/effort on making these highly polished self-promotional videos.

  • @roidroid it's called an AV department... polished AV is cheap nowadays

  • @Lowranger77 way to bring politics into this, douchebag.

  • @Lowranger77 when did this suddenly become a republican vs democrat issue? we all know what kind of people you're talking about when you mention "gold rimz or a set of grillz" (with a z to emphasize your disdain for such people). Keep in mind that republicans aren't known for funding R&D. These researchers had a good education and were not hindered by religious dogmas. Just imagine what could happen with stem cell research if republicans were to embrace common sense.

  • This is awesome! Wonderful innovation, thank God for the hard work of these professionals!

  • steroids and the use of this device after a injury could limit the extent of damage done, both physically and mentally.I have a spinal cord that wont hold me up,i can walk for 10 feet, but can't hold my upper body up any longer, maybe a device to support the upper body someday.

  • Seems a lot like Argo's ReWalk.

  • @ColonPatrol The WILL OF GOD? seriously ?

So.. the will of God is to put people on a wheel chair... to make them suffer a hell of a life, just to prove himself he is worthy of their love!?? That's the most selfish shit I've ever heard.

THANK GOD I DON'T BELIEVE IN YOUR GOD.

What kind of God is that!!???

That kind of God makes me happy to go to hell in your night visions!

  • this is amazing!

  • wow

  • where can i get this? i would like to get this for my grampa so we can go to a basketball game together, because he can barely walk.

  • @Mrcrazydude963 Nice of you to be thinking of your grandfather :) - eLEGS will go into clinical testing in the spring of 2011 and is expected to be available in select rehabilitation centers in the U.S. sometime during the second half of 2011. If you'd like to receive updates, please fill out the contact form on our website (see above for link).

  • @berkeleybionics how much will they cost and will they be available in portland or?

  • @Mrcrazydude963 I don't have answers for you yet, but if you fill out our contact form, you'll be sure to be among the first to know. Our first order of business is to conduct clinical testing next spring. You might also check to see if your grandfather would be a good candidate for eLEGS in the exoskeleton > rehab&mobility > about eLEGS section of our website.

  • @berkeleybionics - I wonder how nobody asked you if it's possible to go upstairs and downstairs !

Aniway, the movement it's too slow and jerky - does anyone know if there is a non motorized system which allows to climb stairs? I'm workin on it, that's why i'm askin - but carrin on patents, is very difficult here in Italy

  • @berkeleybionics Im sorrry but were is the link to your website? (see above link) Im sorry but i cant find the above link. PLease help

  • @GeronimoTech Hi Geronimo! YouTube doesn't allow links in comments. If you click on the little arrow below the number of views this video has had, it will expand the window beneath the actual video and you'll find lots of info there.

Or try running a search - with Google or Bing - for eLEGS or Berkeley Bionics. Hope you find us!

  • @Mrcrazydude963 A similar device called rewalk is being released in january

  • @Mrcrazydude963 Sadly... it's to late. B.E.C RIP

  • Power Armor from Fallout!

  • they should juice the power on these things and have these fools jumping up on rooftops 'n sh1t, i'm just saying. go big or go home

  • @tamacdowell

    im not bitching

i m simply saying the truth with a cool, calm and collected mind

    you fell for the ad

    i did not

    simple as that

  • @tamacdowell

the only thing im "recking" is your blissfull daydreaming

you know its only daydreaming, you know chances are you ll never get one of these mecha legs yourself and if by any chance you do..they wont work as good as in this ad

like any spolied child when its fantasys are scraped, you react with anger

    dont blame the mirror

  • @anarchy3E haha i was joking about all that just wanted to see what you would react like. I actually dont give a shit about this. would've expected you to drop it by now though... you are quite contentious

  • @tamacdowell οκ

  • HAHAH BENDER. xD Making robot technology. Oooh the irony!

  • Imagine if someone could hack your eLEGS and make you run that would be awsome thumbs up if you agree... :D

  • They never mentioned how much it would cost...

  • @PesiCool We are still finalizing the cost - and it's important to keep in mind that initially eLEGS will only be available in rehabilitation scenarios, where the same device can be adjusted for each patient in a matter of minutes.

The next version of eLEGS - one for personal/home use - will have a significantly lower price.

  • @berkeleybionics i read it could be around $100.000 ! true ?

  • Comment removed

  • @PesiCool probably overpriced.

    rewalk costs 100k

    and its developed in israel.

  • @sergiypro Imagine if all that was needed was the manpower to create these tools and the resources, then it could be distributed freely and equally to serve way more people's needs than it does now.

But I guess I'm just being a communist....

  • @sergiypro The E-Legs will be around $30,000 - $50,000

  • LLOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL

  • @ 2:43 says it all. WONDERFUL

  • amazing

  • how many things we take for granted

  • and now apple:

"after Ipad we have now Ilegs"

  • well guess it is cool when you have been sitting in an chair for a long time... but it does look pretty uncomfortable and clumsy to me... it would be a great benifit if you could climb steps though... thats what most of my pp friends miss because it prevents them to visit people who do not have an escalator installt in their flat or even in the pp home.

nevertheless thanks for this invention ;D

best luck for what is still ahead in research...

  • Outstanding just beautiful

  • Absolutely amazing, astounding.

  • oh wow....

  • human terminators.. oh dear :S

  • AMAZING...just amazing. This gives me incredible hope that some day there will be a solution for my blindness as well. This is so "moving" ....on ALL levels!!!

  • @chinarosechows LOL, you silly!

If you were blind you wouldn't be able to watch this video...

  • is it cold in there?

  • this is incredibly touching!!!!! My eyes are welling! Total admiration for the masterminds...........those having a passion and desire for those wanting to walk again! Amazing! A hearty round of applause!

  • apple should come out with their version of this and call it iLegs. Maybe they can add a pocket on the legs where you can put your ipod. lol jk this is really cool

  • Wow, and Japan (see Cyberdyne) did this about 2 years ago, except its powered for all four limbs.

  • aww i love the expression on her face when she can walk again, it's so truly heart warming :)

  • has anyone heard of stem cell?

  • @peterronin1988 i did

  • They should really change the thumbnail for this. I thought it was some kind of parody or something.

  • @TinyTiff12 I don't know sorry but I mean the thumbnail looked like something out of a parody, no disrespect meant.

  • and how are these handicapped people supposed to pay the 3 billion dollars its gonna cost?:P they say affordable but i bet its gonna be pretty expensive nonetheless

  • This seems kinda depressin cause to me if I were in that situation my first thought would be "This is only the illusion of what it feels like to walk again." I mean it's a great thing that has happened but still depressing. If I were paralized I would never have the sensation of walking again so everything else is just a simulation

  • this is awesome

  • John Locke could of used this

  • Why are they using alphabets on the front?ipod, iphone, ilimb, elegs?

  • oh my god I just started to have my eyes wet ....

  • Thats my favorite position. 0:50

  • Thumbs up if when you watch this video, it has over 1 million views. Right now, it only has 3,000

    Going viral? Lets hope!

  • 1:47 He is copping a feel.

  • So can you climb stairs with these things? If not, how is it different than a wheel chair.

  • @blueboar1986

Even if it doesn't climb stairs, look after 4:45

Seriously? You can't see how it's different from a wheelchair?

  • just imagine in say about 10 years... technology will prolly vastly improve so well that we will eventually not be able to tell the difference between a cripple and a perfectly normal person... amzing!

  • Iron Kripple!!!

  • This is just the beginning. Just think of the technology that will be available in 100 years from now.

  • @Killswitch1027

thats probably what they said 100 years ago...and look at us now

sure there have been major medical breakthroughs...but nature found a way to keep us in check again (a myriad of cancers, aids, a shitload of new diseases)

    so really...not much progress there

just a lot of fat guys watching the sports on big screen tvs

  • cold in there..

  • Awesome

  • completely amazing and unthinkable (:

her face at 2:45 instantly gave me joy as well as this video

  • what's the price...half a million?

  • All of this made possible by "Science."

  • WOW amazing

  • Amazing!

  • Awesome. Very moving video and invention .... pun happened accidentally, but nonetheless, this is true on many levels; a very moving video.

  • @Jake4595 Off topic

  • Beautiful.

  • this is great

  • 2:42 her face and the fat dude in back make a funnyass pause

  • Remarkable. Keep watching!

  • why does this hurt when i see this

  • would it be possible for a quadriplegic

  • The smile on her face says it all, how wonderful!!

  • soon they are gonna be able to put these things inside of u. OOOOOO

  • sobering video

  • This is so amazing

  • LOL 0:45 AVATAR REFERENCE

  • finally! something good for society,I was getting sick of the cellular device, cell phone, cell bullshit .now lets keep up the momentum, go humans! cure cancer!

  • I love when she shouts "I'm doing it!!" she's so happy :)

  • @lala7993 probably one of the best feelings in her life :)

  • she looks like an old white fergie

  • awesome

  • it looks like that first leg came off the wheelchair on its own...

  • @DownWithTheHerman Yeah, I thought so at first, but I think that she used her arm, but the lighting made it look like the arm didn't bend.

  • @SasoriB5 ya know, i could see that. but ya gotta admit, the angle sure makes it look that way.

  • + one for humans :D yay!

  • This is great.

  • now imagine what would happen if a virus got into one of those.....

  • could religion do this? haha...u mad religion?

  • you guys took religion which gave all you humans hopes and love then you guys bash it and spits on it after you have invented some internet and robot??? wtf is worng with this generation

  • @Jake4595 Are you hardcore conservative christian? what if i told u god is fake?.....and gay?

  • @ADxTygon lol do i have to be a christian to have a religion numbnuts??

yes i am a christian ,and what if i tell you that you are fake a gay?? i feel so bad for u

  • @ADxTygon you're between 12 and 15, you're are still impressionable by people better than you.you're fat, ugly or both. You're socially awkward around anyone who isn't in your small circle of friends. You play call of duty on xbox live and got it payed for by using your mom hard earn money she got from sucking my dick.... u mad?
