  • Man, you did a great job! The best solar I've seen, and that's no joke.

    God Bless you!

  • @jesus77755 thank you so much! God bless you as well!!! i plan on doing a few solar oven cooking vids when it warms up enough outside.

  • Consider yourself very fortunate you aren't my neighbor, cuz I would be over there bugging the crap out of you about now..lol It turned out really nice, now tomorro will be the test, and I am sure it will pass with flying colors! Great job!!

  • @rondygal thanks,im getting excited about taking it for a test ride tomorrow!!!

  • Looks very excellent so far. After it's degassed, and since you live in Louisiana, my vote for the first meal cooked in it is 'gator jambalayah. Maybe even throw in some shrimp, and oysters. Also, I noticed that after your wife helped you, you made her go out to cut the grass. Tsk, tsk. :)

  • @DIYMakerman well actually she was a little late getting to the grass.it took her alittle longer then expected to change the oil in the pickup and stack the firewood. please dont let my wife read this

  • @luvintherawlife ther most common solar oven that is commercially available is the "sun oven" its about $300.00 and its a single pane of glass with extremely flimsy reflectors. i spent a lot of time and money on mine but it will be better than the store bought ones and last me my lifetime

  • This is getting interesting. I can't wait to see it finished!

  • @subtac well i found some huge mylar bags in my pantry that i use to bag up my rice and beans before i store them. i have enough to cover all 4 reflectors. in the morning ill run to ace hardware and get a spray can of adhesive and put the mylar on in time for the sun to get high enough over my trees that it will hit the oven.im getting excited now.

  • pretty cool man look forward to see how it works

  • @roadhog1986 tomorrow evening ill have my water temperature results.

  • Very nice!!!!

I have a few questions for you if I may.

why two pieces of glass in the door verses one?

what is the cost total so far?

Thank you for the follow along.

    God Bless

    Pete

  • @moparmanpete hi pete, the double glass is to retain as much heat as possible inside the oven. a single pain looses heat very quickly thru convection. the total cost is$130.00 for all the wood and $50. for the 1/4 inch plate glass. so right at $200.00 if you count glue, screws, and paint.i wanted to use tempered but the cost is twice as much as non.

  • I am astounded! :))))

So, what's first on the menu?

  • @tgtbtri tomorrow i will see how hot i can get a pot of water. i dont want to cook food untill all the gases from the paint, plywood, insulation, and caulking burn off. maybe this weekend ill cook a roast.

  • @bctruck mmmmmmmm........ sounds delicious :) I'll keep fingers crossed :)

  • I have those "what was I doing" moments all the time. What about making the mirrors removable mirrors that you can add once you get to your cooking site

  • @Mrcaffinebean thats a good idea also! i think im just going to use some tin foil until i find the perfect solution. i ve put far to much time and spent way to much money on it, to not make my self have some patience and do it right.
