shiba inu's are cute and they are great dogs. but to have a shiba,you need a big yard.but there playful and did i mention CUTE! plus there breed goes back from thousands of years with a nice history. i know that i gave you limted reasons but look up shiba inu and you will find more!

Shibas are NOT a starter dog. They are WAY too smart and will take advantage of an inexperienced dog owner. They are also generally terrible off leash. I love my Shibas to death, but they are not for the feint of heart.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to sound like an asshole, but I don't really think there is such a thing as a starter dog. At least in my experience. Every breed has its own problems. Whether we're talking about the Pug's tendency to have their eyes pop out of their skull, the German Shepherd's stand-offish nature towards strangers, the Boxer's tendency to bowl over people, the AmStaff's tendency to attack small animals, etc, etc. They all have problems imo.

While I think there's some truth to that, some breeds are definitely easier for a first-time dog owner than others due to the maintenance levels involved. For instance, a golden retriever is comparatively low maintenance and low hassle. Shibas have a LOT of quirks and more "primitive" behaviors that will give someone who is not familiar with canine behavior fits.
