The sonic power of this tune rivals anything My Bloody Valentine ever did. And thats a compliment. What a great band. I've listened to this song over a thousand times. Wish I could have seen it live. Thanks for the post.
I saw them play this at the Manchester Roadhouse around 1994. At the crescendo of the track they had this psychedelic light show behind them. It was the most amazing live song i have ever seen. This doesn't do justice to the wall of sound you experienced when you were actually there!
I agree. That was the 'Death of Cool@ tour I think. I bailed on that tour as I had horrible, self-pitying flu, and first got to taste Mad as Snow, at Jilly's the next year, when Dan almost missed the opening, because me, Matt and the band were obsessively playing Puzzle-Bobble. Gaspanda, a tip: Play this again, horribly loud. I know I'm biased, but if you play it loud enough, this mono recording is damn evocative.
I remember thinking at the start of the gig i hoped they would play this song but i couldn't imagine how they could possibly do it live. But it was just on another level.
Made HIM weep? I cry to sleep to this most nights! The pedal thing? We counted Julian's foot tools at one show, there were 13. We were the sad bastards who started the "Turn the guitar up" shouts, and the cries of "moooore" after Elephantine (remember cool as milk?)
Unfortunately Anvil is 11 minutes long. I may have to do a fade-out. I think there's a 10 min limit on here, but I'll see what I can do. I couldn't tell you about the pedals. I was off my tits and filming with one eye on the view finder and the other avoiding being danced into, or in front of. Watch carefully and you may get a glimpse when Jules has a fiddle.
I pleased to see people are still enjoying this stuff. I will be putting up some more live clips, but as you may have seen, some of it is a little ropey on the sound. I'm on a promise for a newer version of the footage I have and hopefully, this will be better. If all else fails, I may just edit footage to go with some old live tapes. I really want to share the live version of Anvil, but it's too long, and no-one films the drummer (sorry Dan).
I'll put up some other footage too, including the odd bit of interview etc.
Has anyone out there got a recording of the Fruit 'What is Fruit?' video? Patrick told my cousin & I about it back in '96, but I think it took so long to get a release, I never even saw it on TV.
Thanks Riley. Also thanks for noticing the misspell. I should've noticed that. It seems someone has Hypnogogic. Princeofmars is taken. So now I shall be named....BluePedal.
MAD AS SNOW is, I believe, one of the saddest and most powerful songs by this incredible band. I'm glad I could play this and CAN'T TRUST THE WAVES from their DEATH OF COOL album on radio.
Tnanks for posting this and, although it seems quite unlikely to happen, I wish someone could sometime release some live video collection...Patrick himself perhaps ?
Patrick Fitzgerald (ex Kitchens of Distinction) will be playing an intimate live HEADLINE showcase at The 12 Bar Club, London on Monday 29th October under his critically acclaimed stephenhero moniker.
Ethereal and amazing... Sorry I missed KOD when they played the Grog Shop (Cleveland) back in the 90s (Death of Cool). Was probably their only show in the area.
Having been a fan for quite some years and never been able to see the KOD live can I just say how ELATED I truly am to hear that they pull off these songs live.
Nice, never heard of these guys before, thank you.

How come there's not a single video of "Smiling" on YouTube?
It has got to be one of the top 10 most beautiful songs ever written.

By the way, from the hidden KOD treasures, I think 3 TO BEAM UP is another killer nostalgic trip by these 3 so talented but underated guys.
RileyELFuk you make the difference in YouTube. Thanks for an incredible an essential contribution : )

I agree. I'm ready to play 3 TO BEAM UP when the aliens come to destroy our planet.
Sorry, I accidentally gave your comment a thumbs down. Suppose to be a thumbs up.

The rest of this gig will follow over the week. Check the 'More from this user' as they seem to take a while before a search actually can find them.
