of course i have, but back then i just discovered hammond organs and hammond players, so i didn't know them... But now i do ;-)
btw: i don't like Barbara Dennerlein very much, maybe because i'm some kind of a purist if it's about Hammond sound, and i don't like the midi "upright" sound of her bass pedals.
@SkateYourOwnStyle Re: purists. When I was younger, I thought I was a purist - until I learned to like "this AND that", rather than "this OR that". I own a Hammond A-100 / Leslie 122 and a Hammond E-100 / Leslie 122 - and 24 other keyboard instruments. They will never be pulled from my hands - BUT - I am also open to other options, and somebody else's take on a situation. Variety is, after all, the true spice of life.
Well, i think Barbara can play very well... But if it's about a B3, i want to hear the real organ. For other sounds, you don't need a B3, you can also use a digital solution, like midi keyboards or sth like that...
BUT: that's only MY PERSONAL OPINION!
I'm also experimenting with digital things, like using a nintendo DS as a synth or combine Jazz patterns with electro beats & add a lot of sound effects etc.
Just like you said: Variety is one of the most important things of life!
when i wrote this comment i was new to hammond music and didn't know a lot of good organ players! There are so many good hammond players: Tony Monaco, Jon Lord, Leon Kujpers, Andreas Hellkvist, Raphael Wressnig and many more ;-)
Good band. Of course the Master himself Lonnie Smith, but also the other guys. Was it an old battered ES-175 guitar? Btw, I think the good sounding sax player had plans for another chorus but Smith held down a block chord to get his attention :-)
Wonderful Gang!

I remember when Mr, Lonnie Liston Smith lived in New York and played the after hours clubs in Harlem. He was great then and remains.
