  • Wonderful Gang!

  • I remember when Mr, Lonnie Liston Smith lived in New York and played the after hours clubs in Harlem. He was great then and remains.

  • Thanks Lonnie for the many beautiful concerts of yours I had the privilege of seeing over the years in NY City. George from NYUSM.

  • This Video is so hip. The form is so simple and yet they did such a good job. By the way who are the musicians that play with lonnie?

  • peooople we like the jazz and our doc over makes the best one tumbs up and five stars unfortunatly not possible anyymore sad but the man the doc

  • This is Lonnie at his best!!!

  • He and Joey De are the only living organists who can really play good !!!

    RIP Jimmy Smith

  • Who the fuck told you he was dead??????

  • Jimmy Smith, king of jazz hammond died in 2005 at the age of 79 years

    i did't mean dr lonnie...

  • do not forget Neal Evans from Soulive!

    He is incredible too!

  • @SkateYourOwnStyle Don't forget Tony Monaco

  • @HammondHummingbird Allright, i just forgott to list him..

  • @SkateYourOwnStyle what about john medeski? tony monaco? neal evans? there are plenty of others too, but yeah lonnie and joey are two of the best

  • @jonankof

    yeah, you're absolutely right...

  • @SkateYourOwnStyle Have you ever heard of...Tony Monaco... Barbara Dennerlein.... Cameron Carpenter..... ?

  • @Tattookub

of course i have, but back then i just discovered hammond organs and hammond players, so i didn't know them... But now i do ;-)

btw: i don't like Barbara Dennerlein very much, maybe because i'm some kind of a purist if it's about Hammond sound, and i don't like the midi "upright" sound of her bass pedals.

  • @SkateYourOwnStyle Re: purists. When I was younger, I thought I was a purist - until I learned to like "this AND that", rather than "this OR that". I own a Hammond A-100 / Leslie 122 and a Hammond E-100 / Leslie 122 - and 24 other keyboard instruments. They will never be pulled from my hands - BUT - I am also open to other options, and somebody else's take on a situation. Variety is, after all, the true spice of life.

  • @Tattookub

Well, i think Barbara can play very well... But if it's about a B3, i want to hear the real organ. For other sounds, you don't need a B3, you can also use a digital solution, like midi keyboards or sth like that...

BUT: that's only MY PERSONAL OPINION!

I'm also experimenting with digital things, like using a nintendo DS as a synth or combine Jazz patterns with electro beats & add a lot of sound effects etc.

Just like you said: Variety is one of the most important things of life!

  • @SkateYourOwnStyle dont forget Tony Monaco!

  • @TheSwamiJaneEquation

when i wrote this comment i was new to hammond music and didn't know a lot of good organ players! There are so many good hammond players: Tony Monaco, Jon Lord, Leon Kujpers, Andreas Hellkvist, Raphael Wressnig and many more ;-)

  • @SkateYourOwnStyle Don't forget Tony Monaco!

  • @SkateYourOwnStyle Don't forget Rhoda Scott. ;)

  • Lonnie Smith is the maaaan!

  • Hope he tours again, I missed his show in Prague. Gotta see him live!!

  • This is so wonderful !!

The groove blends spot on with the back ground too :)

    5 *****

  • What a great groove! Thanks for sharing!

Good band. Of course the Master himself Lonnie Smith, but also the other guys. Was it an old battered ES-175 guitar? Btw, I think the good sounding sax player had plans for another chorus but Smith held down a block chord to get his attention :-)

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • @rounder2u Haha, had'nt noticed that at first glance. Its like hey homes, hang on a sec, Dr's turn. Nice. :D

  • He is sooo entertaining to watch and wonderful to listen to! I was able to see him at the vanguard.
