  • i asume you're listening to a metronome in your headphones. how do you set this up on the SPD-S so that you can hear the metronome in the headphones only and not through the speakers. Would like to buy one but want to check that you can make live loops without hearing the metronome click through the speakers. cheers.

  • Wow! Doesn't take skill to play these. I hate these pads. takes no skill to sound good. not saying that he isn't good. nice rolls but damn!

  • tuck your pinky's in, champ, you ain't out for tea and crumpets.

  • almost radiohead esque

  • @TheSchoolsux345 What are you talking about? This sounds nothing like Radiohead

  • @TheSchoolsux345 this is the least Radiohead'y thing I've heard :S

  • sweet early 90's rave sound bro.

  • kind of a drum n bass breakbeat

  • Enjoy yourself making music man thats why you got a spds and posted it! Screw the haters thats why they are watching you on you tube cause they aint got one and if they did, they dont know how to use it! HAhA ! if thats your brand of funk then funk on baby!

  • Could you tell me how old your spd-s is ? i'm just curious

  • the fuck this is NOOOOT funk!!!

  • do u need a module to use?

  • GREAT !!!

  • Not funk, this is Acid Jazz. James Brown would laugh in your face...Nice tho.

  • Drum and Bass MANIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i have the SPD20e and we have so much fun on it =) ..nice mix btw =D

  • cant jump, cant funk.

  • can you load your own samples in the SPD-S?

or do you just have to settle for lame dance vocals and shitty drum sounds fro the 90s?

  • OMG, I HATE that sample of the lady.. Used in a lot of songs in the mid-90's.. "Do you wanna dance fo me, huh huh c'mon ya'll!"

  • @cxbra Isn't that from MTV Music Generator?

  • nice one bro...bring da funk!

  • OOHH YEA!!! GET DOWN!!!

  • Nice work

  • All I need is this groove, some platform shoes, a mirrored ball and disco is back babbbby....yeah....

  • Excellent work man, but the bass sounds a bit timestretched. Did you put it in complex warp mode in Live? Could help.

  • do i need to buy a sound card to work with pc and spds?

  • Does this need to be plugged into a laptop to work?

  • pinkies in bro :)

  • Did you make the samples by yourself or did you download them somewhere?

  • AGUANTE LA CUMBIAA

  • breakbeat

  • LOL EPIC GOOD

  • Does anyone have any idea at how to use an spd-s as a master with a mpc 1000 as a slave. The spd manuel sucks balls. Oh and cool vid :)

  • CHECK THIS OUT "spds fizzy brizzy"

  • not that funky more like techno which im no fan of

  • techno?... LOL what... have another guess for 5 point

  • more of a Drum and Base then techno.

  • really dnb inspired stuff, nice work.

  • fuori tempo a volte

  • awesomeeee !!

  • hey great beat. I just picked me up one of these and was wondering if you could help me? I have a whole bunch of drum samples on a compatible Compact flash card and ive successfully uploaded them to the internal memory but how to i assign them to a pad with other on board sounds e.g a patch i think its called? :S

    thanks

    liam.

  • well.. everybody can play alone - even the drummer ;)

  • I like it but I think it would be beter without the annoying woman voice....

    Other than that, its awesome.

  • vocal sample is cheesey

  • when the bass came it was awesome

  • i second that :D

  • Pretty good stuff, but if you're after being a one man percussion band kinda thing then you'll probably want some sequencing software to make your own tunes to play over.

  • brother was the polarity of the ac cable if u dont mind . i just lost mine and i need to get a new one thank u so much

  • sooo sick!

  • Can you program your own sounds into this machine, so you can have sound clips and things upon hitting the pads?

  • Yess u cann :] hehe expensivee BUT soo worth it

  • how long can a sample last for?

  • 6 minutes :)

  • seriously? awesome! cheers

  • Good show the SPD-S is sounding interesting

  • can i connect more external triggers on it by connecting them to a midi interface (like alesis trigger io) and then this to the midi in????

  • Pretty sure you can...

  • I just bought one of these to fool around on, and I have a question. Should I be looking at some kind of sound module hardware or is there a software solution to more drum kits with the SPD-s. I am totally new to MIDI, and am not sure what I need. Im wondering if I should have bought the spd20. I just want to be able to play some drums, without a huge drum kit. thanks in advance for any help. peace

  • I just got one of these and i have been messing around on it for a couple hours, and you are very good at using this device no doubt, I bet those people talkin shyt have never even seen one in real life haha

  • reall coool

  • Hell yeah dude that was definitely sick. Makes me seriously consider wanting to get one man. And fuck all these kids hating! Siytek obviously rocks this shit as a midi controller, and he's damn good at it.

  • kickboxer5 is a fuck nugget. i feel u man, thatd be a pro fake.

  • dude why are you feeling that guy for his nuggets?

  • i dont know if you guys notice or not his spds is turned off

  • nvm

  • ur right i cant see the red rights when u hit a vield

  • ITS NOT TURNED OFF!! This would take me *LONGER* to fake!! There are NO SOUNDS assigned to the pads, im using as a MIDI controller so no lights come on!! geezz guys kamon!

  • Im not mad, im just expressing something I feel strongly about.. I think you are the one who needs to chill, dont take it so personally! Criticism is fine but saying something is fake that you dont really understand is just blatantly rude.

  • my 12 years of piano playing experience tells me that bassline is written with a pretty funky scale 'dip shit' ..if you want dance, go listen to my 'culture shock' video.

  • @siytek Humm id think a bit more r and b really...most funk is mostly pentatonic scales combined with some type of flat 5th chord....but yea it does have a funky type rythm to it.... or techno...either way...I SOOO want one of these pads...how much do they cost now a days? Are they worth the bones?

  • @siytek this could probably do pretty good in modern house sort of chart thingy. I'm not talking about pop chart dance music, like proper cool house, like Floating points. I'd say just add some old 90's house sounding chords in there and you oculd do well for yoursself. Check out Floating points-Love me like this. This guy is classically trained at piano too so you may or may not see where he's coming from

  • cant you make the horns play in tune with the vocalest?

  • i agree with homeboy below...nice funky beat with some good vocals...nice brotha!!!!

  • ya know what, if i could download this i would

  • Lovin the funk, fuckin quality ^_^

  • i have a spds and love it... it fits right in with my percussion set up. mine came with a stand... but ive seen them hooked up to other stands mixed in with drum kits.

  • yo why is the spd-20 more expensive?

  • It has over double memory, triple time of sounds, 8 pads insted of eight, and its prettier :p

  • my first impression - cheesy vocal sample. BUT when you add bass and drums - this becomes very interesting!

  • Great job! Can you let me know where those voice samples are from? Much appreciated!

  • wow,,, this is nice... great work.

  • What kind of stand are you using for this? I want to add to my drumkit but I want steady stand for it.

  • its a Roland one designed for the SPDS and SPD20.. check the Roland site

  • what kind of memory card works for the spd-s??

    sandisk? what sizes??

  • not sure on the size as I used an external sampler but its compact flash

  • gotta get one of those!

  • im selling my spds...with the original cd..only been used for a month and i got the box and everything...msge me if u wnt it

    $450...bought it for exactly 595.00

  • y do u want to sell it?

  • Bummer, purchased mine brand new for 435 7 months ago...

  • its not the same price everywhere,

  • With the invention of the interwebs it is the same price in the States. Pays to shop 'round.

  • Hey man Really I like it your music is very good & very original

  • nice stuff man

  • hey man nice video.

im was looking for ages to find out about SPDS, from where can i get and how do u put the different sounds in it.

    Thanks, plz reply

  • How much is that thing?

  • Dude, keep it up, i'm liking all your vids so far...

    You got rhythm.

  • I'm debating between the SPDS and the SPD20... and real reason the S is so much cheaper? (I noticed you said you work for Roland..)

Great work work! Loved the other vid too. This seems like the perfect way to combine my love of acoustic drumming and electronic production.

  • the spd-s allows you to import your own samples on a memory card, the 20 does not. think of the 20 as more of a controller and the S as a sampler

  • so it seems that the 's' is better than the '20' but why is the 20 more expensive??

  • the spds is a sampler. you can put in your own samples, record with a line in or mic, and edit your samples. the spd20 kicks major ass too, but it cant sample. it has hundreds of preset samples that are RIDICULOUSLY clear... awesome machines, both of them... i wish i could get all the samples from the spd20 onto my spds :(

  • hey man, thanks for the tip, the whole reason why i post this stuff on here is for advice like that - tell me its crap because and then how to fix :) I will have a look at the warp settings. I made this in 20 mins at work remember, once I have an SPDS at home this sort of stuff will get a lot better.

  • BTW, with the Bass it sounds a little rubbish (cos it's not at the right tempo) .. so in Live change the Warp setting to Tones or Complex. Just an idea. ;]

  • good job man...its getting there...your fills have inspired me to work on mine...thanks!

  • cheers dude, just passing a little time at work and showing off what the SPDS can do. Samples from www.breakbeat-paradise.com. (The kick drum is a bass drum trigger from a Roloand TD12 btw, you cannot see it on this vid but my right leg is using it)

  • hey dude, Nice Video! i checked out the breakbeat-paradise site for samples .. cheers for the heads up on that site! you know of any other similar sites in regards to obtaining samples for the spds unit? Thankyou in advance :)

  • pretty awesome!
