Yep thats not a J Stroke at all its just a simple stroke that with any power behind it would turn the canoe. As pointed out the J must finish with the top hand thumb pointing down and the paddle almost being pushed out to compensate for the power stroke

Not a J-stroke, Most call it a goon stroke. J-stroke is thumb down at the end of the power phase. just to let you know. :)
