The spanish seem to love hitatchi machines, maybe cos theyre cheap to buy, I donno, never had enough in my account to buy a mining shovel much as Id like to! The thing is nowadays, its not just buying a machine and thats it, you have to look at the service deals, a great example is the ex8000 that busted a swing bearing at 1200 hrs. no manufacturer would let that machine sit for long, I bet the part was replaced as quickly as possible without any fuss! Their reputation is at steak!
we have terex/o&k rh400's where i work. they have poor reliability. i have worked on other hitachi excavators(ex1900 and ex2500) and if they are anything to go by i bet this ex8000 is more reliable than the rh400.
From Wikipedia- "The Indian Elephant is up to 6.4 metres (21 ft) long. Its height at the shoulder is between 2 and 3.5 metres (6.6 and 11 ft) and it weighs between 2.7 and 4.5 tonnes (3.0 and 5.0 short tons)."
u should learn to read since i never said i work on drag lines but i have worked on everything else including dredging cranes. whats your area of expertise watching video that people put on youtube and believing everything they say? say what u want i m done wasting my time talkin to u type in fort mac alberta thats were i work
huh just so u no who your calling an idiot i m a heavy duty mechanic. by your definition is a drag line an excavator? wheel loader? cable shovel? u kind of proved your own stupidity with your response ( BUCKET WHEEL EXCAVATOR) funny they just didn t call it an excavator moron and the ex 8000 is a hydraulic shovel
Oh they did, but it was quite a while. It was down for at least a month on a part availability problem as well. I dont know the details i just know there was been alot of issues with that unit.
I know in our little world up here hitachi remains to dominate all hydraulic shovels up here. Especialy now with the dash 6's going to cummins. Also we are expecting parts from Japan to re power our mitsubushis to cummins and day now.
I understood there was only on EX8000 in austrailia.... am i mistaken? We now have 4 in Fort McMurray Ab, Ca. And by the way PC 8000's are garbage. The newest one in our next of the woods lost a swing bearing at 1200 hours. Haha
Thanks for the Video couz.... I work for a Hitachi Dealer and we assemble the biggest haul trucks and Shovels at mine sites in Nevada. I have to agree. Hitachi has the best products with less maintenance and they run forever comparing to others that I have dealth with at the mine sites.
There is a R9800 here at this site. The early RH400s weighed about 900tons while the later ones are over 1,000tons.The R9800 will be 52 yards which is similar to the EX8000.
Komatsu are better, our new dash 6 cant touch our Pc 5500's for grunt & breakout. The dash 6 feels like a piece of tin in comparison, it is much more freindlier to drive but thats it.
Thats not an excavator, its a shovel. And anyone who likes O&K's have probably never worked on one. Sure they have the best break-out power in the industry, no argument, they do, but their electrical systems are unbelievably complex, Hitachi are 100 times easier to work on. Hitachi also are better for parts, in Australia anyway. O&Ks also have dramas overheating the walking gear on long distances.
Hitachi are a budget excavator, still well behind in technology and efficiency compared with the Europeans, Liebherr, O&K etc. Not the largest either the RH400 is the worlds largest hydraulic excavator and the soon to be released Liebherr 9800 will be second.

Well Cat is in the process of buying Bucyrus for 8.6 Billion as of end of November. So the biggest shovel will soon be the Cat RH400.
billymp79 1 year ago
The worlds biggest hydraulic excavator is the Bucyrus RH400. It was O&k, the terex, but now it is a bucyrus

Could someone tell me what causes the bucket to open? I couldn't see a hydraulic cylinder or anything else. I'm a novice at this stuff...Thanks

The Terex RH 400 is the worlds larges hydraulic excavator in the world to date. Not the
Hitachi EX8000, but I believe it could be the 2nd or 3rd after looking at its specifications.

Komatsu is maybe the best copy of the "big ones" but i hope kamtsu fixed that bearing without any question??
How long time did they need to fix it?

Sold only a few of these in Australia, and they go for around $12m a pop. The doco would've been great, if not for the music.... torture.
Scully, what branch are you at? And don't go bad-mouthing Terex... Hitachi Australia used to be the agent for them. =P
