IMO the 5 most needed survival items:

Knife (a good quality multi-function or bushcraft knife are 2 ideals)

Compass (test it)

fire steel / waterproof matches (normal matches with a thin layer of vasaline are a good, cheap alternative to the £3 boxes)

First Aid

poncho (eyelets)

not a survival kit but what i would take if i could only choose 5 items. ofc the best thing you can take is knowledge, of erea, edible plants, hunt, make shelter, keep warm, find water etc
