lol, after Hitchens exposes the irony of Alterman's squeaky fandom for Clinton and his apology for the cynical strike on Sudan, the squeaky dweeb can't think of anything to say but "OK fine." Owned bad.
@AlwaysReason Why would Christopher Hitchens be "dissapointed with life in general"? After all, he's gotten to do what he wanted, i.e., live a life of ideas and argument, and after a lifetime of dedication to his craft, he finally received public recognition for his work.
@writersblock26 I don't know why he's dissapointed; cynics just are. They gave up on something, some idea or something they thought was good at one time and now they call it naive, irrational or dangerous, whatever. In their core there's a hole, something lost. It makes them twist their arguments to fit their view of the world, now way too negatively emotionally charged. It makes them spiteful, vengeful mocking, basically everything Hitchens is. It's a shame. He's really smart.
@AlwaysReason I am not sure I can agree with you that Christopher Hitchens is smart. He is brilliant, and engaging, and funny-- the qualities more of a cynosure than of a cynic. Even his political enemies (many of whom include former comrades on the Left) attest to his charm and intelligece. Maybe you have seen a side of him that others (including me) have not, but you must have a greater insight into him than even Hitchens' ex-friends. Maybe you do, but I have yet to see evidence of that.
I have noticed this pattern of those debating Hitchens. When they realize they're getting their asses kicked, they end up looking dumb and or lose face at the end of the debate. Hitchens is way to clever a debater for Alterman.
Hitchens is wrong on many things but on atheism I agree with him, he is such a oratorical pit bull you just have to respect him. I would like to argue with him it would be a challenge.
As for his argument about AIPAC & the Saudi lobby he is clearly wrong & whats more he dishonestly spreads it about.
The US is no longer a Anglo-Saxon Jeffersonian nation, AIPAC runs the US foreign policy & the office of President is primarily to do with FP.
Why is it you don't critize Israel or Saudi Hitchens?
Hitchens has been pretty outspoken against how Israel has handled the conflict in Gaza at least. And no offense, but the man would crush you in a debate. Even if I myself disagree with some of his views, he's a fucking master debater.

whats the point of winning a debate if truth becomes a victim of the debate. he is not a great debater, he is a loudmouthed ideologue, who caters to the lowest common denominator of the intellectual chattering classes.
as soon as hitchens stops speaking at about 6:55, alterman is thrown completely off, and starts talking bullshit. 'And if you look at American Liberalism...er...since i dont no, exactly since when, but er, since, er, errrrr, the end of the middle of the end of the reagan administration' - WHAT?!
It would'nt matter if the rest made sense and where an honest stand, and it wasnt. Debaters usually do have problems one time or another, its just Mr Hitchens that have a talent beyond anything our generation have seen in a long time.
I swear the audacity of conservatives! WTF are you talking about? He makes perfect sense. Just because you have very low analytical skills and lacks the ability to formulate argument in your head and get meaning doesn't mean the person making the argument is making sense. It only means you have a lack of understanding. Now if you need me to explain what he said slowly to you I would but until then stop being to god damn critical especially since it is you who is the problem
is there any debate where one part concedes and admits that the other one is right? just one?

Hitchens never really explains his REASONS for not voting Kerry. He does not say WHY he did not support the policies of Kerry/Edwards.

AS per ex CIA we went to war for the acronym OIL.
O...OIL, I...Israel, L...leverage.
The actual President, Cheney, knew there were no WMD
but needed WMD to whip up his base & the nation.
Countries seldom tell the truth about reasons for going to war.
Cheney seldom told the truth, he didn't have to b/c all
attention was on his press secretary & chief fund raiser, Bush.

Haha, look at Eric's eyes wandering around right before he says, "Ok, fine..." as Hitchens is explaining his position. Eric can't even follow.

Hitchens' Inner Monologue:
"Always a mistake."
Oh, wait, I judge George Bush by his 'Islamic' enemies.
" . . . Usually a mistake."

The Monica Lewinsky affair was a switch from the real reason Clinton should of been impeached because of land deals, drugs & murder.
The Clintons are criminal meglamanics, if you think Bill was bad just wait if Hillary gets in.
