  • I will try to get the video posted I have it on dvd, I'm just assuming its Danzan Ryu but all I know of him was he was taught jujutsu in Hawaii and he taught here in Georgia USA the techniqes he is doing are the same as in your video though. At one time in the video they are inside training in front of a picture of a japanese guy who is wearing glasses I'm not sure if its Osakazi sensei though if its him its a picture of him when he was older..

  • hello I was wondering if you had heard of a guy named Alvin Butler. I have a video of him from the late 60's early 70's teaching these same techniques. Any help would be appreicated

  • @rab877 Haven't heard this name before but if possible, you should post the video.

  • @jujutsu987 hey I just posted two short clips of the video look at them and see what you think..is it Danzan Ryu

  • Quite a spread of techniques, including Ladies Yawara, Kiai No Maki, Oku no Kata, and Shinin no Maki. I remember him when he would come visit out west for AJJF conventions. I was only a teenager then. He was a bit older then in the videos. He was his own man.

  • @PiedPiper97601 Yes, VERY Outspoken..But would give you the shirt off his back..A great man.

  • Do you know who is being Uke in these films?

  • @profarrington I Believe it is Professor Lescak, one of Professor Browne's early Black Belts

  • Cool but would have hated to have been the uke because it looks like he's getting tossed on the hard floor & not mats. I guess thats how they did it back in the day.

  • @tarnisher Actually Professor Browne was taking it easy!

  • @tarnisher LOL! Not to mention that they are on a Wrestling Mat (Which is bad enough because those mats slap back when you fall on them). Uke never fell on the floor though. But as Professor Browne used to always say.."You Have To Be Tough To Do Jujutsu"

  • Never knew Danzan Ryu had suwari waza (kneeling forms). I thought they were lost to that school through time. Great to see an important part of Jujutsu still resides in that system.

  • @gmarquay Yes, The Founder included many ancient arts within the system such as the use of the Iron Fan (Tetsu-sen No Maki), Long Sword Take Aways (Daito No Maki) & The long Staff (Bo No Maki). The Suwari Waza are mainly in the Upper list (Shinnin & Shinyo No Maki) of the system Though.

  • Neat video, makes me wish that I was around the same time that he was.

  • @Omega01 He lives on thru his students now...
