Never heard any of this stuff before. I find it so sad. He was an acid casualty, so let that be a warning to you guys who love drugs. Drugs are bad, m'kay?
Great honor to Dave Gilmore who had the patience to tease this out of Syd while Syd was at the height, of his of madness, syd was in direct contact with the muse, it must have been dificult
that is such a fantastic voice reminds me of death in june and some other really great mod material. that deep slightly nasal very intelligent british accented voice. this is the very first time i've ever heard him sing. can't believe i was born in 70 and missed all that probably the greatest thing that ever happened on earth
just read a very irregular head. i love this man as a long lost brother. i was a part of the punk/mod scene for 13 years and found some darkness that i can't escape (familial, etc). syd i think could be credited with being the king of mods, or the first mod. this is what i believe: Roger Barrett, slang nicknamed Syd, was the GENIUS and you all fucked it up and you should apologize here or in the next life. but death is the last great adventure, so tip my smoke and wine to you, Syd...CUsoon

read " a Saucer full of Secrets" by nicolas shaffner, it unfolds the whole pink floyd odyssey, yes Syd was my favorite , but I liked all the boys in the band , they all contributed a piece of what I call the Pink Floyd story ,
@BenjiBoi56 You know, I have the same feeling about it all. These guys figured an escape via becomming a myth! Surely to concieve such an illuminary peace, he knew what he was doing! Very inspirational!
I may sound like a nerd for saying this, but I wonder if Syd would have liked The Legend of Zelda games if he ever got to play them. Since he always had a fascination for fairies, elves and fairytale-like settings and stories, I'm pretty sure he would have enjoyed the series a lot.
Syd Barret is obviously a genius, I've seldom heard music so obviously performed by a man deviating from the NORM and being so abused by its contemporaries, I would say Syd is much better than Pink Floyd! Wow, How can one man be so misunderstood? He is probably like Vincent Van Gogh and others! This is a question of being an hit in the record buisniss or not obviously, I love Syd!
Thanks for posting. Long long gone. Simply amazing what a gone mind can do. Sweet madness cries out to be heard - yes i'm thinking stretched out til the end of time - yummy yum yum ah just heard steel rail and how did henrietta appear in the scheme of things? I'm thinking! Love this block of songs.
Love this--something about it is so poignant--if you listen to this on the right wave, so to speak you feel it the way he song it, if that makes sense. Thanks for posting!
i will tell you now i loved pink Floyd after Syd Barret but only recently i started to listen to the older stuff more and i gotta say its awesome not a good ad the newer ones to me but this CD is awesome
Syd such a beautiful soul always lost in playful bubbles of thought and melody
we love you mad cap!
hey brits af as I know you'll still be playing moronic skiffle were not fot the BLUES and ELVIS invation and else without the Ramones you would'nt even have had Punk music...so be thankful lad!!!!
I haven't heard this for at least 15 yrs. I have to admit I broke a tear or two hearing this. Syd was so brilliant! And he will always be a musical legend, at least in my opinion.
no star will ever shine as brightly as SYD BARRETT...he still lives on and this and all his music is phenomenal. He is a truly gifted beautiful man. love you always SYD...thanks so much for posting these songs

mbtemlett in case you forgot, Rock n roll and Classic Rock in general is an AMERICAN thing. It started from AMERICAN slaves singing the delta blues. Bands such as The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin heard them and built off of it and Pink Floyd And David Bowie built off it even more and it just keeps on going. But it all comes from America. So don't think British people are any better.
Or we could stop with all the fake borders and cultures and come to a better conclusion that music is the universal language for all to influence and enjoy. No matter your country.
yeah...if we hadnt 'invaded' the us withour music u would still be playing shitty country music, but u would still be playing blues which u would be better off doing coz the blues are fucking amazing
it reminds me of John Frusciante's trip after leaving the peppers - recluse and painting...why did he have to copy? couldn't he have come up with something more original???
Syd did attempt to come back with this here album and the next one, but it was all in vain...anyway its the same idea. Syd created some new "accoustic sounds" just like john did and went back into painting just like john. Syd was already crazy then...
Yes, Americans do love British rock. We love the brits in general. How could we not be influenced by great music? The emulation goes both ways, my friend.
Yes, and our English heroes of old were greatly influenced by American R & B of the 50s-60s. I guess it was a lot better than playing in a skiffle band in England :)
From Pink Floyd to solo artist Syd Barrett one of the most influencial musicians lyricly and musicly I like his music and his painting and I just got Barrett (1970) today fantastic stuff I'm sure hes playing or painting in the sky
Es increíble poder escuchar la música que sale desde más allá. Hay flashes de lucidez en la atención desmedida. Un rey-abeja que zumba bajo y así devuelve el sentido a su propio cuerpo, en la agitación justa del aleteo más irreal.
I can't believe I suddenly found this recording again! OK, I'm only 16 again. The fourth song is my fav. "Meet me by the OXO building again, Charlene, and we shall be together on a sunny day"...
Yes , it is a fantastic songwriting. And don't forget his nice work on guitar ! It is like David Bowie said : " he's the peter pan of Rock " . Thank ya .
What a great album, I can't believe how I never listened to this before, can you like, post any other of syd's albums in parts or something like that dude!

It's great how clear his voice is. A lot of old records have the problem that the lead vocalist's voice is just too low and hard to hear.

As Roger Waters once said "I like to think oysters transcend national barriers."
If he said music it would have more relevance, but he didn't so that will have to do.

then it could be argued that the music is from African countries that the US pillaged, Leave it. Rock and Roll is US, Rock Is UK/

well i meant like john came back to the chili peppers and syd never went back to floyd or anything,
i guess in a way your right, like they did the same things while gone, well sort of, i just dont think john copied,
and crazy junkie, and crazy are too completely different things,
hottiedonut 2 years ago
well, I don't think it makes any difference anyway to be right or wrong.
its just a pattern I noticed that americans always copy british stuff and appropriate it, which I think is sad in way, but thatz just the way it is!
