when we first got HBO, it was a week or two before the series finale, and i thought "Hmm, their ending it, must have been on for years." man was i shocked to find out it was only 2 seasons.
@msa1985 It was not on the air for long. Production costs for the show were astronomical (and the quality is reflected in its two short seasons. Superb and fleshed out casting, great settings and wardrobe etc. You really do feel like it's taking place in the dustbowl). I would highly recommend this show to anyone who want to see an unconventional occult story ultimately dealing with the battle of good and evil in an atypical fashion with atypical characters in an atypical setting.
@lyricist07 each of them was an avatar of light or dark... hawkins (light), crowe (dark), but the thing is that you can't really trust light or dark in this series... justin keeps calling himself "the left hand of god" and ben is forced to do evil to do good. it's a creepy, ambiguious interpretation of old religion.
Does anyone else think that it is amazingly awesome that Rev. Norman Balthus spends the ENTIRETY of Season 2 without ANY lines and disabled (though it's a good opportunity for the actor to say things with facial expressions alone, which he does well in several places), only to actually be able to say in this final climactic scene, and in clear tribute to the classic horror movie THE EXORCIST, THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!!!!!
Was a different ending for Season 2 filmed? After re -watching this episode I thought originally there was a more "intense" battle between Ben and Justin.
I love this show and HBO is sooo stupid for taking it off. I am still pissed after all these years because season two ended in such an awesome way. I couldn't want unitl season three and stupid HBO took the show off and won't let the shows creator do anything with the rest of the story. SUCKS!!!!!
Man, I miss this show. A lot of shows I've liked have been cancelled, but this had to be the biggest let down of all! I really despise HBO for taking this off the air...damn you!
i agree that hawkins is hardly a perfect messiah, and could arguably be going to a darker place (which would have been fascinating), but i also think that brother justin, especially towards the end of the second season, becomes pretty irredeemable as far as moral ambiguity is concerned.
I loved this show. Fucking HBO let the show go and so many things didn't get answered. I'm still confused to this day. Watching the 2 seasons i see something new i hadn't notice before.
This is truly the most profound show I have ever been fortunate enough to view. It is simply a masterpiece. When HBO canceled this, it was like killing Mozart prematruely.
Argh, I miss this show so much! It was without a doubt one of *the* most awesome shows on TV ever. Brother Justin... what a character! And the locations and the soundtrack! A perfect show all around.
Sometimes I just hate HBO for canceling shows like this prematurely. But then again without HBO we never would have had them in the first place.
this is actually a clip from the final episode of the second season.
its based during the great depression and both men who are given supernatural powers. one is good and the other is evil and the two years of the show pretty much built up their conflict (awesomely!)
in that scene, hawkins (good guy) is trying to heal sick people by transferring their disease and injury to justin (bad guy), hoping to weaken him before the final battle.
Close, the series had it continued was made for the audience to determine which of the two was good and evil. It had started to show a dark side of Ben and a lighter side of Justin. But those hbo bastardized pricks cancelled it. A pox on them
This is was such a good plot; have Justin trapped and taking from him to give to those innocent people. Man, did he deserve it. I was ticked to see him get off the ride.

This was an awesome show, confusing as hell at times, but still a very good show when it came down to it.

I'm surprised no one put up the rest of the battle where you see Ben fight Justin in the cornfield.

at least HBO could forewarn us that a particular show will be cancelled instead of disappearing, leaving us all to wander.

I lol'ed hard when I first saw brother Justin rip open his shirt while his sister screamed.
Great show... what's with HBO and canceling their best shows? They're almost as bad as the scifi channel.

It truly is one of the most intricate and best written shows ever created. The amount of effort they put into each episode is staggering.
